Nightmare Experience

It has been a nightmare dealing with CanadaLighting. Eventually I managed to construct the track lighting system I envisaged despite being sent incorrect parts and malfunctioning pieces. Receiving a refund for the parts that were sent in error took months and only happened because I kept on their case. Returns appear to be managed by a 3rd party outfit whose objective seems to be to frustrate the customer until they give up. Response times promised on their website are a complete joke. I currently have a ticket in to return a length of track that does not carry current, but I refuse to spend the weeks of frustration it will take to get a refund. Instead, I will post this review everywhere I can and at least have the satisfaction of venting my frustration.
UPDATE: It gets worse! I have now been advised the length of defective track I am attempting to return is classed as “an accessory” and does not qualify for a refund. So they will happily accept your money but if the product is defective you’re out of luck and out of pocket!
UPDATE 2: Regarding the company’s response to my review (see below), I have two comments. First, I placed an order for the defective track on July 15th and requested a refund on August 16th. Given that it takes 10 days to two weeks to “receive the product” in Canada from the US, my refund request falls well within their 30-day window. Secondly, I have been invited to phone the company to discuss shipment of a replacement part. However, I was not given an number to phone, nor can I find a phone number anywhere on their website.

Outstanding Warranty Experience

2 of our Kichler outdoor lights recently stopped working. They were purchased from CanadaLighting Experts 3 yrs prior. Explained the situation to Gerard - he was very thorough verifying purchase, what the issue was, etc.. He made the replacement process extremely simple - received 2 new lights within 1 week. Will ALWAYS purchase our lighting thru CanadaLighting Experts!

I bought 2 pendant lights that were on…

I bought 2 pendant lights that were on sale. I completed my purchase and got a confirmation email and then within days my purchase was cancelled when I inquired as to why they said that the manufacturer can’t let them sell it to me at that price.
They refunded my credit card except kept $30 US and said it was because of the currency exchange the day they decided to cancel my order!
AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

No no no! They are not Canadian. They use the Canada name and sell products made in Canada and then ambush you with a 40% surcharge by charging in US dollars.
Very dishonest, stay away.

Ordered 05/23, Arrived 07/05....

Ordered parts May 23. Credit card is charged. A week later I get a “well this is a bummer…” letter from them. Another week goes by and they “are shipping them”
The parts have now been at their “trans ship” depot for a week.
Tracking number is not for my order.
It’s not the same size or weight, but they told me it doesn’t matter, don’t pay attention to that, lol
It’s always 24-48 hours for a response.
Do not buy from this company. Worst customer experience. Will be asking CC issuer to reverse charges for items not recieved by end of day today.
And again todays response is “24-48 hours to get a tracking number”. Pretty sure
You could find it if you tried a bit harder.
Called again today and found out that the
Order is in Norristown, Pa., where it takes 5-10 business days for Purolator to inspect for customers. Then it will go into Canada and then be shipped.
So no tracking number until then.
If you’re going to order from them, be prepared to wait.
EDIT. It has now been sitting for 2 weeks at the Trans-Ship facility.
EDIT They have now sent an email 6/21 saying it is lost. So resending a replacement set.
We will see how long this takes, lol.
EDIT 06/23Now saying new order is on backorder and won’t ship until June 28.
I have cancelled the order, and requested a full refund. I now have to pay my credit card for something I never received…
EDIT 07/5 The fan has arrived, but downrod is two days away.

TLDR, Ordered 05/23, received 07/05 6 weeks total time.
The replacement order only took two weeks to get here.

Do not order from this company…

Do not order from this company (particularly if you are Canadian). They charge in USD, however, do not mention it anywhere. They do charge duties and hide it in their pricing. They will not honour price reductions on orders placed 2 weeks after even though you are assured you received the best price. Terrible customer service.

CHRIS was HELPFUL, PATIENT & CHEERFUL

What was great about my experience with Chris Rabago was that very soon after I sent an e-mail requesting help with the info I might need to return a light fixture; I received a clear & detailed & helpful e-mail from Chris. I had a few more questions as I was planning on going from Canada to the States for a trip & so wanted to mail it back while I was in the US, because it would be cheaper. Each time I sent an e-mail, very soon after I would receive an e-mail from Chris with the exact info I needed. Chris is a GREAT employee!

We regret ordering from this company

We regret ordering from this company. We ordered a dining fixture that was listed "in stock" on March 3. We have not received the item and according to customer service it has not been shipped. We have contacted the company 4 times to follow up and every time we are told it has not been shipped but the order is being "processed" and it should be shipped in 10 days. This item has not been shipped. We have now contacted the company twice to cancel our order and request a refund but both times it has been denied! Very frustrated trying to resolve this issue. UPDATE: the day after this posting we contacted the company again requesting a refund. Success! However it should not take 3 requests for a refund for an item that has not been shipped.

Not a Canadian company only advertised as a CDN company

Use caution as you think you are ordering from a Canadian company, but that is not true. I was charged in USD, and the lights were bigger than I expected (I measured) when I processed my return I learned I was shipping to a US address. Very costly lesson, I am good at doing my homework before I make an online purchase, this one got the better of me.

A Strong Word of Caution

After purchasing a fixture from their website that came in a colour that was off to what I saw online I was forced to return it. I contacted the company right away and spoke with the sales rep I was dealing with and she agreed that the online listing was misleading. She said she too would have thought the fixture was black, and she also agreed that the information was unclear. She said she would speak to her management team about the return shipping that I felt I should not have to pay for.

She came back saying that I would have to pay for return shipping, or get a store credit. My client did not want the fixture nor did she want a credit, so this forced me to have to pay for the return.

The return cost me $70CAD. Our company Absorbed this fee as good business practice, because I didn't feel that we could in good conscience bill the client due to the fact that the listing was unclear.

Moreover, when I received the refund, it was less than what I paid for the fixture, so I questioned them and they said it was due to the conversion rate, that this is a third party charge and it was beyond their control.

As a business who deals with many online companies, returns are completely in their control. It's the system they are working from that they are using as their reasoning in this case.

Its quite disappointing as a business professional who purchased a product that was poorly described online, and their sales rep agreed with me that it was, and then still had to pay for return shipping, of $70 CAD plus lose $31.81 CAD to a conversion difference. This was an expensive cost of doing business for a fixture we no longer have.

Managing a website is of course important in this regard, especially when clients are expected to pay for their own return shipping, and refunds may incur a deficit. Even the promotions advertised on their website are show to be expired.

You company is called Canada Lighting Experts, yet you bill in USD and are an American company? I don't see where on your site you openly disclose that you are an American company. Nothing on your home page mentions this. In fact here is a blurb from your About Us description. 'Over the years, the company and website have evolved and grown into one of the top internet retailers for lighting and home products in Canada. Check out more facts about our company below!' At a glance one could further think they are working with a Canadian company after reading this, especially since your company name is Canada Lighting Experts. Its a bit misleading.

Furthermore, I could not see anything 'below' as per the comment above in your About us blurb that gave me any other indication that you were an American based company. I guess you have to dig to get this information.

I strongly caution anyone looking to purchase from this company, to do your homework and be advised that you are shopping from a US company, will be billed in USD and if you need to return, you will pay for the return and likely have a refund deficit.

Hopefully they will amend their site to be more transparent.

This company is not Canadian and received poor customer service

Do not order anything from this company. First of all, they are not based in Canada, so for Canadians who assume that they are Canadian because of their name, they are based in California. They use companies who manufacture lights from all over. The company that manufactured the pendent lights I bought were Access Lighting based in Toronto. They do not run their own customer service. They use a company called Belami which creates more confusion and the staff there were not very useful (although i thought one of them was going to actually help me and get me a refund) In the end my issue was not resolved. I ordered pendent lights with gold/bronze coloured wiring. I received pendent lights with silver wiring. Also -- these were halogen lights that were sold without the transformers (or canopies as they refer to them as). Which to me is also ridiculous and false advertising. They can sell them for less (which draws you in) and then you receive lights that are useless. You have to then purchase transformers (canopies) for an additional $50plus Canadian each. After a couple of weeks back and forth through email and phone calls (after I was promised a refund for the incorrect order) they now say that they sent me the correct order. I give up. Buy Canadian, people. And buy in store whenever you can. Big big lesson for me.

Company doesn't ship but charges credit card in full.

Placed a $500 order for two topiaries. Two weeks after purchase and having my credit card charged in full, nothing had shipped, with no word from the company. Reached out to customer service via chat, which isn't easy because they are mostly off-line. Was told at that point that the order was on backorder. I asked to speak to a supervisor, given that no one had reached out to inform me of this. Never heard from a supervisor. At week 3 now, still no sign of shipping. I am cancelling all 3 orders that I placed with this company. Do yourself a favor, and shop elsewhere. These guys have no clue what is going on!
