You only see the difference between a good and bad organization when you call in. We have had a very bad experience with Country Hotel Breaks. We made a booking through this organization for 4 nights in Lewtrenchard Manor, which is a beautiful hotel with an excellent service. For good reasons we were unable to use the last 2 nights of our reservation. We have communicated this by email 48 hours before the start of these 2 nights. This was no problem for the hotel and would not charge the costs. Counrty Hotel Breaks was in no way prepared to help find a solution and charged everything for the full 4 nights. Our advice, Country Hotel Breaks is a great site to orientate yourself, but definitely do not make a booking through them, but directly with the hotel.

Booking was easy, all the information about location, photos and prices were there to pick.
Availability was easily visible.
There is only one thing, I have missed. None of the stays offer twin beds, which is my and my partners preferred way of sleeping.

The sample menu advertised on line was nothing like we received. The menu offered was burger, fish cakes, curry, cold meat or cheese.
Hotels reply: Our menu online is a sample menu for guests to peruse, but availability of menu options depends on seasonality, availability and sometimes staffing levels.
Complaint was dealt with by Countryhotelsbreaks but still advertising it.

I found a great bundle at a hotel, better than the direct booking option. The booking process was easy.

I think £20 service fee is quite steep considering most comparison sites won’t charge. You are also probably taking a percentage fee from the hotel for booking.

There is a limited availability of properties in the highlands of Scotland beyond Pitlochry.

A great hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff and great food. Our room had an amazing view over the valley and the River Thames and the grounds looked beautiful, but we did not explore them due to bad weather. Instead we used the hotel's very well equipped gym and the lovely pool. Sadly we were unable to get a massage as there was not an available slot so I would urge people to book before they go.

Two minor down points. The bar did not have any draft beer at all which is quite unusual these days so the choice was not very good. Also I thought the wine list was far to short and could do with improvement

Finding a hotel in a location relevant to our travel plans is often tedious. A listing based on motorways or just a functioning map would help.
Normally have to look elsewhere for more information on the hotels.
Inconsistent descriptions of rooms - this isn't particular to Country Hotel breaks but an industry wide problem with the hotel website and the resellers using different terminology and having different availability for the same room. (That's apart from classic, heritage, executive, premium, privilege, suite etc having a different heirachy & meaning at different properties!)
