Me and my husband have completed the initial application for our first home purchase plan with Gatehouse Bank recently. It was straightforward but required detailed documentation to ensure compliance with Sharia principles. Gatehouse Bank clearly outlined eligibility criteria, and the support team helped clarify what was required, including proof of income, employment details, and personal identification documents.

They have provided a transparent list of documents needed and Helpful guidance on Sharia-compliant requirement.

Upon speaking with Mohammed Fiaz during formal application call, we had a really good discussion on understanding of our needs, goal and our understanding of halal mortgage process. As a first time buyer we did have some queries regarding the entire process but Mohammed Fiaz explain the process and entire purchase plan very thoroughly. He was very clear on every piece of details for formal application and the purchase plan . I do appreciate all his help to complete our application form.

Had this misfortune of been placed with gatehouse bank in early Dec 2025, On a standard 2 bed terrace, after a down valuation despite a signed rental agreement been produced and comparables in the area, we proceeded regardless thinking and been told speed was one of there strong points.

4 weeks after the valuation, still no further on my broker escalated to the business development manager, after a call with the underwriter i thought finally getting somewhere.

Then told, despite knowing weeks earlier because my LTD company also uses private lending they were not willing to pay out - Despite the private lending been unsecured, floating in the LTD company to be deployed when needed.

I have now wasted approx. 8 weeks, time and money to not actually be any further on.

One to avoid, if your broker places you with these as a lender ask to be placed elsewhere, My broker has since dropped gatehouse from his panel.

Initally had a good experience with my personal advisor (SE) who has been dealing the case after many couple hours conversation and go through documentation and supporting document once she was happy with all she asked for product fees and valuation. Then she inform me underwriter is not happy and given an useless reason the income by mortgage ratio despite showing it work they lack understanding and never answer by basic question why SE approved if that's the case... either underwriter is wrong or SE.. but regardless they didn't refund my money back. Never use them ... or if you are ensure that take in writing SE is happy if it wont go ahead they will refund product fees.

After wasting couple of month with gatehouse scam and almost losing the property went to strideup bank for Islamic mortgages there process way clearer and transparent explained the situation to them and got approval within 2 weeks and they save the deal highly recommend Stride up as compare to Gatehouse

I finally found a Shariah Compliant bank. Gatehouse have made Shariah finance accessible. I recently applied for a Buy to let and the whole process was so easy. Aisha from Gatehouse was extremely polite and professional and helped me all the way.

I had an excellent experience working with Suzette throughout my mortgage application. From start to finish, she was professional, approachable, and incredibly supportive. If you want the process of buying your first home to be 1000x more stressful, painful, and horrible, use Gatehouse Bank.

The application process with them is so painful it's a bit of a joke. You're asked a wildly unnecessary number of detailed questions - which frankly feels quite insulting at times - and have to provide documents after documents after documents. Only for underwriters to reject your mortgage and provide zero reasons when asked why. So we are expected to provide absolutely all details to every aspect of our lives, and Gatehouse Bank can just operate in complete vagueness. That seems very fair.

To paint a picture of how bad my experience was, at one point during the process I told my adviser (Ary Jaff) that I would be out of the country for 10 days and would not be able to take calls until I returned to the UK. He then proceeded to call me 4 times consecutively (!) for something completely non-urgent, to which I was forced to pick up while at an important family event. Completely unprofessional.

Go with an Islamic mortgage provider like StrideUp instead, if you want to keep your sanity and feel respected during what is already a difficult process as it is.

Suzette has been Very Helpful for the application process with updates on a regular basis. I would recommend Her for any kind of process with GHB. I have had to go through the process for reasons unavoidable, thrice, due to our vendors and have to say She has been Very helpful to us as a Family. we are grateful to her and her help.
