Worst company ever
Worst company ever, I bought over 80K cash in Pwrcell equipment with standby generator in Dec of 2022. Still does not work in 2025, never has worked and they just keep sending people out here to do nothing. I was part of the BETA test program and assured by Generac I would be upgraded if anything needs it to ensure the system would work. I live in SW FL and so far during every power outage this thing just fails and the inverter trips and fails. Major run around, never buy this Pwrcell junk, just get a regular generator and skip the green energy nonsense. Try Briggs and Stratton, better equipment and better warranty.
Update: On October 1, 2025, we finally got new batteries that are supposed to work. Unfortunately, Generac didn’t bother to replace the faulty BMU, so the system still doesn’t work. It’s junk.
Do not buy a Generac solar system. It’s junk. We live in Hawaii and have had a Generac solar system for the past 5 years. It has malfunctioned 10 times. Each time, it takes a month or more for parts, and the only company that services it doesn’t want to do it anymore. Generac used to be based in Wisconsin and had a 24 hour help line we could call to reset the system EVERY DAY while we waited for parts. They have now moved to Canada, 6 hours ahead of us. The system isn’t discharging at night. Since they are so far ahead of us timewise, now we can’t get it reset when we need it. It’s been over a month since we were told a part was sent. We are really frustrated and don’t know what to do at this point.
Have a transfer wire warning
Have a transfer wire warning, just get the run around from Generac. The closet tech is 60 miles away, and will not come out because Generac does not pay them enough for their time. I live in a rural area hence the reason for the generator. Will use someone else next time
The purchase was a poor decision
We purchased from a local dealer. The unit we received was installed by the dealers representative. It didn't work, not even for a minute and made a horrible noise. We sent it back and asked for a replacement or our money back.
The unit was sent for repair, a local tech repaired it, not in the factory or anywhere with a quality system. Now they tell us we must take the repaired one. We asked for a one year warranty instead of 6 months (a warranty readily available from other suppliers) because we want extra protection against the potentially unreliable repair. This request was turned down. The equipment is poor and the service/backup is horrible
I had my whole house Generac installed…
I had my whole house Generac installed by Lee Legler Construction and Electric on 4/28/25. They were so polite and did an amazing job of installing my generator. I am extremely happy with the work they did and can rest now knowing I'm covered if there is a power outage. This company was highly recommended to me and I can see why! They're the best!
They do not stand behind there…
They do not stand behind there installers. Generac installer didn't install transfer switch properly it broke. Took generac 6 weeks to deny my claim because of water damage. Give me a break .
I have installed 20 different Generac…
I have installed 20 different Generac generators over the years and never before has one failed to start out-of-the-box. Generac Tech Support was useless; all she did was give me a number of a local certified tech. Turned out to be oil soaked air filter, which he replaced in 10 minutes. NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY and Tech would not leave the jobsite until he was paid. How did all that oil saturate the AIR filer? Supposedly it was overfilled ... Now, WHO put the oil in the generator: the factory? the retailer? a middle man? No one knows. As the installer, I checked the dipstick and made sure it was right on the "full" mark. Customer is positive he just bought a lemon. Time to sell Kohler.
Beware of the Add on costs
When you purchase your Generac generator, that is just the beginning of your costs. Then it suggested you buy a maintenance contract which will cost at least $395 per year. Otherwise all warranty calls come with a diagnostic fee to get someone out to check/fix the problem. The Generators come Wi-Fi equipped, but the free Wi-Fi app from Generac does very little except receiving countless push notifications. [You can’t even crank the generator using the “free” app]. You’re invited to upgrade the app for another fee per year to make your Wi-Fi fully functional.
Had my generator installed by light…
Had my generator installed by light force, it went down four months ago I called light force they changed me $150 for diagnostics and say it needs a stipper motor and it’s under warranty, it took them two months to replace it, still it didn’t work so they said it needed a battery and it’s $125 and not covered by warranty still not working they said they will try to figure out what is wrong and get back to me, it has been two months now haven’t heard back and every time you call either leave a message and will get back to you and they never do or the mailbox is full, I called Generic and they are as useless
Generac does not care about the customer
Generac does not care about the customer. I have a generator that I have only used a total of about 3 hours but it has cost me over $7000 to replace break downs. Once my main breaker went out and the generator ran for 4 straight days. I have contacted differant people right up to the CEO office and they will tell me we will look into it but never hear back from them, All they care about is getting your money
I've had a generac since 2020
I've had a generac since 2020. All was good until they revised the APP. then I had no access after calling several times. Then I started getting an E1505 error code. This went on for 8 months. Finally after 3 techs came out and diagnosed each saying different problems. I went out and took the time to check it myself. I found 1 wire loose. There Service is good until your warranty runs out. They were going to replace my starter and charge $500. I bought the Generac starter myself for $145. Turns out my starter wasn't bad. Shame on this company.
Worst Customer Service
I’ve been dealing with Generac for over 7 months now, and I can honestly say this has been the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I opened a case with them back in July 2024, and here we are in January 2025, still no resolution and zero contact. I’ve emailed them over 30 times, made multiple calls, and each time I get the same generic “thanks for reaching out” response, and that’s it. No follow-up, no resolution, no assistance.
I’m incredibly frustrated and disappointed. A company this large should know how to properly handle customer inquiries, but it’s clear they don’t care about their customers at all. I will be taking my business elsewhere, and I highly recommend you do the same. You’d be better off with any other company that actually values their customers.
So happy with this company
My generac was installed today by Ryan and Nick from Accurate Power Systems in Waverly NY. They worked 9 hours from start to finish without a break in rain and freezing cold. Ryan explained everything through the whole process and did a dry run with me at the end. I am so very happy I chose this company. Thank you guys.
I talked to Nathanual at Generac in WI…
I talked to Nathanual at Generac in WI headquarters and these guys have the worst customer service as a manufacturer. I have a powercel CSXW200A3 and they told me it will not work with a 18kw Generator. I would need to replace it. Absolute BS. I looked at the RXSW200A3 and the form factor is identical. I called a local supplier and got a new board A0004499959 for a easy replacement without replacing the transfer switch. THE CEO of Generac needs to be fired! BAD customer service and they are RUDE.
Faulty failing 7000 product - Generac refuses to fix
I have had a Generac 22KW whole house for 4 years. The unit has worked well. HOWEVER the system uses two 7000 Smart Management Modules (SMM). These have failed 3 times and are not under warranty costing several hundred dollars each time. Calls to Generac have resulted in "no known problem" responses BUT detailed complaints of identical failures are all over the web and on Amazon reviews of the 7000. The company is refusing to acknowledge or fix the problem. Stay away!
The worst Customer Service
I’ve had this Generac for about eight years to 2200 KW. The generator itself has been very good. Customer Service is among one of the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with in my professional experience ever. When you call them they are untraine. I couldn’t get anybody to answer a question which was a simple programming question. They told me to call a dealer and the dealer should be able to answer, but their customer service as I was told all they do is read the instruction manual to you. they don’t know any of the stuff. I’ve Encountered this numerous times. For that one reason I would never purchase a generator again.
Stay as far away from this company as you can
Brand new standby generator has 30 hours on it. Two years ago when it initially got installed first storm came by and had a low voltage alarm and shut off 1 hour into running. Two days later after power has been restored they were able to come out and fix it. Service guy said “this is a common issue.” Two years later another storm hits lost power. Same issue arose again. Contacted generac we were then told to contact a servicing dealer so we did and they won’t come out and diagnose the problem cause they already know the issue and they don’t have the parts on hand. Called generac back and they said there’s nothing they can do until a diagnoses is made. This company is selling known faulty generators with no resolution. They don’t take any accountability for their actions. If I could rate them a 0 I would. Over the past two storms this generator has a 0% chance of running and the problem is going to continue with every storm. Sad when you have doubt of the standby generator running and you have to consider getting a pull cord generator as a back up to the back up. Strongly urge you to go with another company. Customer service sucks, products suck, they don’t stand behind their product, service techs tell you yea it’s normal but don’t carry additional parts, by the time it gets fixed you will already have power and the next time your out of power you’ll be on the phone again
I have had to replace the controller on…
I have had to replace the controller on my 20KW whole home generator three times since it was installed in June of 2014. I recognize that the initial warranty period has expired, but the company should be conderned that I have had to replace the controller three times in a five year period. However, they express no concern that their product is costing the customer approximately $1,000 dollars to replace these controllers every 2-3 years.
Don't EVER purchase a Generac contoller if you want a maintenance free generator. The company and generator is a piece of junk. If it was my company I would try to do what I could to find out what is wrong with these controllers and to subsidize my customers for their losses.
AGAIN, DON'T PURCHASE A WHOLE HOME GENERATOR FROM GENERAC!!!!!!
Repairs difficult through contractors.
I put in a solar/battery system 4 years ago. Be aware that Generac doesn’t do any installation or repairs. It’s all contractors. Which come and go. One repair took 9 months, when they finally came they forgot the parts, which were a 6 hour drive away. I used my own airplane to go get them. My battery went offline two weeks ago, the new local contractor said daily they would schedule an appointment. With Helene coming I begged them and Generac to come get me on line. I got an email just before the power went out that they were coming in 5 weeks. Generac customer support does answer the phone, and speak English, but can’t control their contractors. $26,000 and I’m sitting in the dark.
I bought a 20KwH whole house generator…
I bought a 20KwH whole house generator from Generac and apparently they don’t stand behind their own product.
They would not let me speak to a manager in customer service.
They would only tell me to call a different Electrician who was loosely affiliated with them. But since these electricians didn’t sell me the unit, they weren’t interested in doing any warranty work.
So once you buy the unit you are totally on your own. Absolutely no company support.
Wish I had known this before spending $10,000.
I would never have bought this brand.
Steve
