We strongly disagree with this review.
This review is not a fair or balanced account of the project. It is a bitter, one sided version from a former client who pursued multiple claims against us and was not awarded anything close to what she attempted to claim.
This was a permitted JADU project that passed inspections. The original contract was approximately $95,000 and did not include finish materials, appliances, city fees, structural or architectural designs, or additional work required due to existing conditions, homeowner selections, code corrections, or added scope. Remodeling work depends heavily on the scope, finishes selected, unforeseen conditions uncovered during construction, code-required corrections, and approved change orders. The final project cost of approximately $150,000, including finishes and added scope, was very reasonable for a permitted remodel of this nature.
The project involved significant existing conditions, including prior work performed by a previous owner that did not meet current code requirements and needed to be corrected. It also involved added scope, finish selections, and approved change orders. As the project became more expensive, the client began disputing approved work and attempting to shift responsibility for the increased costs onto our company.
The client filed a claim against our contractor bond, and that claim was denied. After reviewing the information provided, the bond company stated it was unable to conclude that Girl Flip Construction committed any willful or deliberate violation. That is an important part of the story this review leaves out.
The client also made allegations we do not believe were accurate, including claims related to the sewer line, HVAC, recirculation pump, and other items. We provided documentation, photos, communications, and records supporting our position. Several items she complained about were approved change orders, outside the original contract, related to existing conditions, or issues she chose to handle through third parties without giving us a proper opportunity to review and address them.
This matter went through CSLB arbitration. We participated, respected the process, and paid the amount ordered. We do not agree with the client’s characterization of the arbitration or the project, and the final award was a fraction of the much larger claims she attempted to make.
It is also clear from this review that the client has continued to closely follow our company, our social media, and our television and media appearances long after the project ended. At this point, the continued updates, personal comments, and public attacks appear less about resolving a construction issue and more about trying to damage a small business.
We are not going to use a public review platform to personally attack a former client or relitigate every detail of a construction dispute. We have extensive documentation supporting our position, including passed inspections, approved change orders, project communications, photos, and the denied bond claim.
Girl Flip Construction is a licensed general contractor. We take our license, workmanship, reputation, and clients seriously. We are proud that our company continues to grow through satisfied clients, repeat business, referrals, completed projects, and positive reviews.
One disgruntled former homeowner’s public campaign does not define our company, our work, or the many people who have trusted us with their homes.
We stand by our company, our work, and our reputation. We consider this matter closed.
