I came from a non-CS background as a new graduate, but had some software development knowledge and was looking to break into the field. At the time, I wasn't sure how I was going to do that, had a lot of difficulty landing interviews, and came across Hatchways.

I was a part of the first cohort for their co-op program -- although I'm sure their program has changed a lot from the time I was enrolled, I had a great experience. The program allowed me to experience what it was like to be in a work environment outside of just programming - sprint planning, collaborating with teammates, in addition to growing my skills as a software engineer.

Although I wasn't able to accept a position right after the co-op program due to personal commitments, they've helped me land multiple interviews and connected me with several different startups, an opportunity I wouldn't have managed on my own. Even several months after the end of the program, the Hatchways team reached out to me and made sure I was doing well, and from there I was able to land two more internships which led to my current full-time position. Thanks a lot to Bonnie, Jaclyn, Shums, and the rest of the Hatchways team!

This was a great opportunity for me to grow up as a developer. Joining Hatchways helped me to nurture my skills and to understand how the day-to-day of a developer is. The project I worked on encompassed a lot of on-demand technologies, and it was a great addition to my portfolio.
Once I started to look for a job they helped me to discover my flaws and how to work around them. Their team really helped me to outstand and thereby to land my first developer job. I cannot be more grateful to Hatchways.

I believe this is the second review I write for Hatchways, and that's because once again, they came through!
One year ago, after I took part in their co-op program and of course, learned a lot, they supported me to find a job. They set the interview and helped me prepare.
I recently decided to look for new employment. Started sending out applications and didn't receive any callbacks. I reached out to Hatchways, and again they appeared to be very responsive and supportive. They set up four interviews for me and helped me get prepared. After multiple interview steps, I ended up getting two great job offers!

TL;DR: Hatchways is great for those with solid development skills (regardless of work experience; junior level is fine), helps landing interviews, streamlines the interview process.

A bit about myself:
I'm a majorly self-taught developer who has done a lot of programming out of passion for the subject, and no actual work experience aside from volunteering for a small non-software company. Got hired within 14 days after completing the Hatchways project interview.

Here are a few things about Hatchways and my experience with them:
- There are two assessments: a short programming assessment and a longer project-based interview.
- The short assessment is simple (ex: implementing a REST API), can be completed in a variety of languages (including Rust!), and should take you around 2-3 hours.
- The project-based interview simulates the typical workflow of a software project: working on tickets, asking questions, having your code reviewed, acting on feedback, and interacting with the team. All together (coding, waiting for feedback, iterating, etc.) is likely to take you from 10 to 30 hours.
- The Hatchways team provides detailed and useful feedback on your output, be it entire assessments or your PRs during the project interview.
- After completing the assessments, if you do well, Hatchways quickly connects you with companies (was 2 days until first opportunity for me).
- You don't need to write cover letters, endlessly edit your resume, or compose application email pitches. Instead, employers get your Hatchways profile.
- Companies have the opportunity to review your profile, so the interviews focus on connecting with the employer, learning about their product, and discussing your background instead of whiteboarding.
- A lot of opportunities are for Full-Stack and Frontend devs, but I found that many companies are flexible enough to let you focus on Backend development. For example, I ended up being hired as a Backend dev after interviewing for a Full-Stack position.
- Most companies are on the smaller side (15-30 people)
- The team regularly checks up on how your interviews progress and offers tips.
- The entire process, from the first assessment to being hired, is free.

All together, this results in a very streamlined job seeking process. You get an interview, you meet with the hiring manager, you discuss the product and your background (instead of writing code for 2 hours in a Google Doc, trying to remember the Rabin-Karp algorithm), you get an offer.

I've had an amazing experience with Hatchways and I highly recommend them as an additional job opportunity source for those who meet the skill bar and have the capability to invest time into the assessments.

I am a self taught Frontend developer. When I signed up for cohort at Hatchways I didn't know where I stood, their project and feedback helped me to refine my skills. Team Hatchways is a genuine platform for budding developers.

TL;DR: Hatchways somehow makes the interview process positive, constructive, and transparent. I went from lacking confidence in my skills and on the brink of quitting, to confidently landing a position in about a month!

I was about a year into my job hunt, and found myself tired, jaded, and genuinely considering giving up on trying to develop professionally. It was around then that I encountered Hatchways through a startup's interview process.

My first assessment was the Front-End challenge. Won't spoil much, but it was a fun and reasonably-sized React project (already a plus vs. the usual gamut of leetcode). However, it was really the feedback I got after that I found extremely valuable. At a high level, I was given feedback on things like code organization and quality, which helped restore some of my faith in my own abilities, while also giving me some concrete areas to further my own understanding.

After the first round, there's a longer work simulation (you can set your own deadlines though), which is where Hatchways really won me over. I had a chance to work on a mock project, work with awesome engineers who were equally awesome human beings. Code reviews were easily my favorite part of this process; so much detailed feedback that really accelerated my growth as a developer.

After the process, Hatchways started setting me up with interviews with some companies, and provided me with a mentor to brief me on each company, their interview process, and any relevant prep materials! I went from landing the occasional interview every month or so, to having at least one each week. I also wanted to note that Hatchways also vets the companies on their platform, so I didn't encounter any mismatched expectations or uninvested interviewers.

At this time, I also decided to take part in their accelerator program. Similar process to my work simulation, although you work with a small team this time! I ended up landing my current position before finishing up the program, so I wasn't charged either. That being said, I was already prepared to pay anyways given the experience I had with them to this point.

Now, I'll be starting a position soon in a Bay Area startup that I'm really excited about! And this all took place in about a month!!!

So yeah, I went from a year of fruitless, jading interviews to landing an awesome job in about a month with Hatchways.

Getting your first dev job is the classic catch 22. Need experience to get the job, can't get the experience without a job.

I went through a front end assessment, and then a full stack project with Hatchways. Both were challenging, and Hatchways provided in depth code review to let me know what I needed to work on.

After completing their program, they lined up an interview which led to a job with a VC backed startup!
Don't assume their projects will guarantee you a job, though. You need to put in the work!

What I do believe is that by having Hatchways vet/vouch for you, you'll stand out from the hundreds of other job applicants.

I spent more than four weeks on this assessment already, and I passed all assessments successfully. Finally, they failed me in the last phase because of some meaningless excuses. Results were full of copied text they sent to everyone, or some are the popular VScode plugins suggestions (like ESlint) that they have no idea about why a programmer should ignore these suggestions. Some of their feedbacks are wrong, and some parts that they did not like were the strengths parts.
I can say this with confidence because I have worked in this field for years.
I became more and more suspicious when I saw the publisher of attractive jobs (from seemingly strong companies) on LinkedIn and the only person who contacted me through slack was a same person.

This was truly one of the best experiences I ever had in an interview. With their process I could evaluate not only how apt I am in a working environment, but also my weak points and how I could improve on them. Although I was in a stressful situation (being in an interview aimed at a company), it became a fun and fulfilling experience. The Hatchways personnel was also extremely capable, friendly, and helpful throughout the course of the interview.

I would totally recommend Hatchways to anyone aiming at a developer position.

Hatchways was able to not only provide me with fun, practical assessments, but also interviews with a few companies!

In the assessments I was able to practice my skills, and get valuable, specific feedback from their team of reviewers, both on my code and development practices, but also on soft skills. Another great aspect is that you can complete the assessments on your own schedule.

And then when it came to being matched with roles, their team was kind, honest, and helpful in getting those first meetings, and providing support throughout those companies' hiring processes, even when it came to negotiating.

I'd definitely get in touch with Hatchways again if and when I'm looking for my next role!

I was referred to hatchways by a company for an interview.
The task was a one day coding project.
The interface was good and the evaluation was done by people who knew what they were talking about.
I remained in contact with them for negotiating an offer and dealing with the business stuff of getting hired.
They were responsive and had a pleasant straight-to-the-point approach.

My experience with Hatchways was good, and I was able to find a job after I went through their process. I had to take two assessments, one was a take home and another one was a project where I worked along with a team for about one week or so. The project was a good experience especially because of the live feedback which came through to each of the pull requests I made. There were a lot of things which I was not aware of, and got an idea due to the project.
They could definitely improve on the experience though, because I actually applied for an employer and it took forever to hear back from them, and when there was no response from the side of Hatchways, I reached out, that is when they gave me the option to complete the project, I would have appreciated if that option was given earlier. Anyhow I am glad I was able to find a job through them!

TLDR: Hatchways puts you in the drivers seat and with multiple companies.

Due to being from a non CS background i struggled to get interviews with tech companies for Developer roles.

After speaking to Hatchways I was able to pass the assessment and project interview and was fast tracked to interviews with multiple companies which materialized into numerous offers.

I loved:
- in-depth review of personal assessments that was provided.
- At worst i came out with a personal assessment which i can be proud of
- Guidance to help prepare for interviews
- Service was for free if you can prove that you have the technical know how

TLDR:
From doing the assessment to landing offers, the process took less than 4 weeks.

My background is in STEM but not CS. I Worked in tech as a PM but no experience as a developer. I am self taught (mostly udemy courses).

I was able to pass the assessment and project interview and was fast tracked to interviews with about half a dozen companies, of which a couple materialised into offers.

What I loved:
1. feedback on assessments and project interview
2. the work that I put into project interview could have been a portfolio project on its own. In fact, I was able to talk about it in my interviews. It was both challenging and interesting, and was in the end the only project I chose to talk about in my interviews.
3. The project was hard, and it exposed weaknesses in my ability as a developer.
4. The team was helpful in preparing me for interviews

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend hatchways to anyone that isn't credentialed in CS or is looking to fast track their pipeline.

Tl;dr:
-Hatchways offers very in-depth assessment.
-As long as you don't need training, it is free.
-Hiring process is very quick.
-Ton of help and company specific resources during interviews.

I joined Hatchways when I was relatively new to software development. I learned most of my skills from online tutorials so it was hard to gauge my skill level.

After joining Hatchways, I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of in-person assessment they offered. They gave constructive feedback on not only the programming skills but also my soft skills as well. I gained confidence on my skills, but more importantly it gave hiring companies assurance on what kind of candidate I am.

I didn't need the training, so I was sent straight to hiring process. I was matched with one of the employees of Hatchways. He notified me whenever a hiring company is interested for an interview. He would also help me to prepare by giving multiple advise.

My overall experience with Hatchways has been great. I landed on a job after 30 days of joining and without training, their services were free. I would recommend Hatchways to anyone who are fresh to development field.

When I joined Hatchways I joined a community. Throughout my cohort, I felt like I was with people who really understood me. The community provided me with so many helpful interviews and was key to my attaining my current job. Its now been almost a year since I graduated the cohort and I'm still in touch with my team members.

I graduated last May and received a job in October. I set up an internship program for my company by reaching back out to Hatchways. We got one intern who has been an incredible mover and shaker. Through his tremendous enthusiasm and passion, he has taken on some incredibly challenging engineering tasks and has delivered outstanding quality on them. I love every aspect of Hatchways.

Before Hatchways I had been teaching myself web development and working on mini projects. With COVID I ended up getting laid off, so I entered the coop program to test my knowledge and get assistance with landing a role as a software developer. It took me around a month after the program to land a job with Hatchways help and everything about the experience was great. Definately would reccomend!

Amazing learning experience and job opportunities

I can't recommend Hatchways enough! As a self-taught developer trying to land my first job, Hatchways made the process much easier in so many ways.

1. They test your abilities and provide feedback. The projects and assignments they have you do truly test your knowledge and capabilities. I felt challenged, yet confident in my abilities to complete them. If you do get stuck, don't worry as they are quick to offer advice. Once I was finished with their co-op assessment, my overall confidence was greatly improved.

2. They prep you for the interview. The mock interview really made me realize where I should focus my time (i.e. the coding challenges for me). If they give you extra reading/challenges, definitely take the time to go through it! They also usually give you a minor run down about what the interview will be like.

3. The companies they send your way are usually aware of your situation. In my case, almost every interviewer I had had some knowledge of me and my experience. They never asked about past experiences, just a walkthrough of some of my projects. This definitely made the interview feel smoother.

Once I started interviewing, I was able to land a job in well under 30 days. I can't thank the Team enough, Shums, Brandon, Carmen, and everyone else behind the scenes!

I enrolled into their co-op after struggling to find employment in the tech sector on my own during the COVID crisis.

Their program is great if you're newish to the tech industry and are struggling to land your first role.

In the co-op you'll build a hiring manager ready project; Using all the in demand tech and learning soft skills along the way.

The most critical and helpful time is job hunting after co-op is done. I felt at much more ease with all the support I got in terms of tactics/technics and knowing that I wasn't along going thought it.

Though overlooked by most, mock interviews and reviews of online presence actually makes a ton of impact and could be decisive. The Hactways team was always ready to do a mock interview matching the interviewing style of the upcoming interviews.
