JUMBO CARS : A FUIR
J’ai loué un véhicule via le site ECONOMY CAR RENTALS. Il m’a été fait une offre pour un véhicule de la société JUMBO CARS moyennant 1 493 $ avec les assurances standard avec franchise de 1.500 $ et proposé une option facultative de rachat intégral de franchise moyennant un surcoût énorme de 400 $ au détail près que je devais régler immédiatement ces 400 € à ECONOMY CAR RENTALS par CB et que je ne paierai les 1 493 € qu’à l’agence JUMBO. J’ai été débité de ces 400 $ (338,74 €) le 4 octobre 2025;
La première partie de la "méthode" a lieu dès la prise en charge du véhicule. Un employé fait le tour du véhicule pour noter à son initiative ou à votre demande les différents problèmes de carrosserie normaux pour un véhicule de plus de 60.000 kms et vous indique que vous retrouverez cet état départ du véhicule dans un document placé dans la boîte à gants. Sauf que toutes les « réserves » ont disparu de ce document signé par le seul représentant de JUMBO, non signé par vous donc non contradictoire comme si l’on vous avait loué un véhicule neuf sorti d’usine. La seconde partie de la méthode consiste à tenter de vous facturer au retour 500 $ pour des choses insignifiantes en vous reprochant de ne pas avoir pris de photos ! La troisième partie de la méthode est que JUMBO vous remet un contrat au retour qui ne correspond qu’aux 1 493 $ que vous lui avez payés où les 400 $ supplémentaires payés pour le rachat intégral de franchise ne figurent pas, ont disparu. Et JUMBO vous affirme que cela ne le concerne pas, qu’il n’est pas au courant et qu’il s’en tient à son propre contrat. Jumbo ment car sur le document placé dans la boîte aux gants, il est écrit en tout petit « Protecion Dano y Robo total, si »
La quatrième partie de la méthode est que JUMBO vous interdit d'utiliser sa navette au risque de vous faire rater votre avion si vous n'acceptez pas ce chantage aux 500 $. La cinquième partie et non des moindres est qu'après votre retour en France, JUMBO débite votre CB de 1.500 $ soit le montant total de la franchise pour des choses insignifiantes pour lesquelles vous avez payé 400 $ d'assurance complémentaire. En conclusion, beaucoup de guides recommandent de faire appel à des loueurs locaux comme JUMBO en apparence moins chers que des loueurs de marque internationale avec qui vous pouvez contracter directement sans intermédiaire, qui incluent dans leur contrat leurs options d’assurance proposées et sont présents à l’aéroport (et non à plusieurs kilomètres de là). Solutions qui compte tenu des arnaques dont vous serez victime vous coûteront en final beaucoup plus cher soit 400 + 1.500 = 1.900 $

Ibamos a alquilar un coche porque tras ver los precios de esta empresa eran muy económicos respecto al resto. Pero casualmente un conocido alquiló un coche con ellos hace varios meses y me comentó que son unos ladrones y unos estafadores y que tienen un paupérrimo servicio al cliente. Fui a comprobar las reseñas en Trustpilot y su historia no es la única, por lo tanto escogeré otra empresa que tenga mejor trato al cliente. Con ellos lo barato sale caro.
Peor experiencia alquilando coches
Peor experiencia de mi vida alquilando un coche. Tuve la mala suerte de que me dieron un golpe estando yo quieto en un ceda al paso, una vez entregado mis atestados policiales y del seguro diciendo que no fue mi culpa, esta empresa me dijo que me iba a cobrar igualmente los 1200$ de la franquicia por que yo al ser extranjero no podía ir al juicio entonces automáticamente lo perdería en favor del que nos dio el golpe. Pregunté que si me podía representar alguien y me dijeron que no, hablé con una chica llamada Vanesa y me dijo que la ley de Costa Rica era así. Cuando le pedí que me pasara con un superior me dijo que su superior era Dios (adjunto foto de una conversación un mes más tarde y sigue diciendo que su superior es Dios) hablé con abogados y al final me dijeron que me habían mentido y que si se puede tener representación legal en Costa Rica, pero que básicamente lo que hacen es que el seguro del coche de la otra persona les paga el arreglo y a mi igualmente me cobran los 1200$. Por que yo (frase textual de todos los trabajadores con los que hablé) soy responsable del vehículo y por tanto del golpe, es una frase que tiene grabada a fuego todo el personal para decirte y que te hace sentir tan impotente cuando en mi caso yo solo estaba parado detrás de otro vehículo que era lo que tenía que hacer y no cometí ninguna infracción. Fue un golpe que me dieron a mi fruto de la mala suerte y un despiste del conductor de atrás.
Al final te das cuenta de que a esta empresa le interesa que sus coches tengan accidentes de esta manera por qué ganan más dinero con el golpe que con el alquiler del coche mismo que fue de 290 euros. Ha sido tan mala la experiencia de alquilar un coche con ellos que y tan desagradable el trato por parte de sus trabajadores que no dan ganas de volver al país.
Se celebró la vista del juicio a la que acudió mi abogada hace dos semanas pero ningún representante de jumbo car se apersonó al juzgado, me acaban de cobrar los 1200$ cosa que cuando salimos del lugar el día que terminaba mi contrato con mi abogada y se nos dijo que no se nos cobraría hasta que el juzgado diera la resolución y ahora al llamar para ver que había pasado, Vanesa me ha vuelto a decir que el golpe es problema mío y de mi abogada para recuperar el dinero y que si efectivamente su superior era Dios. ¿Es este el trato que se merece un cliente? Creo que no, me parece de vergüenza por parte de ella y de la empresa a la que representa.
Espero que esta reseña ayude a más de uno a no alquilar con esta empresa, estas cosas en otros países de Latinoamérica no se dejan hacer y es una pena que un país como Costa Rica tenga esta impunidad para engañar y robarle a los turistas… probablemente me contestará a esta reseña alguien (seguramente Vanesa) renegando de todo y excusándose a ellos mismos que es lo único que saben hacer bien ademas de mentir y robar.

Bad sevice policies
Good car, friendly and responsive service presonnel. They charged me 1600$ for replacing a lost car key (where other agencies would charge around 600$)
Also when I wanted to extend my contract they couldn't adjust the price to the low season rates (half price of the originial prices) unless I cam physically to the agency. The service policies are rigid and not customer friendly!

Excellente expérience lors de la prise en charge comme au retour. Aucun frais caché, pour la location d'un 4x4 suzuki jimny qui m'a déplacée dans tout le Costa Rica et qui s'est avéré très utile.

Before renting, I researched Jumbo Car online and came across some negative reviews, mostly complaints about hidden fees and unexpected taxes — especially from customers who booked through third-party sites like Booking and Rentcars.
I followed a tip I found online: contact the company directly, without intermediaries. I reached out via WhatsApp and was promptly assisted. All my questions were answered, and I received a clear and honest quote.
Upon arriving in Costa Rica, everything went smoothly. The car I received matched the quote exactly, the prices were as agreed, and there were no extra charges. The vehicle was new and in excellent condition.
The experience was flawless from start to finish. The staff’s politeness and warm welcome were a bonus that made everything even better.
Bottom line:
Talk directly with then. Avoid thirdparty sites.

Worst rental experience ever.
We took full insurance… a tree fell on the car due to bad weather and bad condition of the tree. Sorry they answered not insured. 1200€ was taken from our credit card and we were forced to continue our holiday with the broken back window.
Another car would cost us another ‘insurance’
What a scam! Do not trust them! We had a discussion when we delivered the car and the ‘manager’ locked his door and didn’t want to help us any further. He even prohibited us for taking the bus to the airport. We had to take a taxi.
Never again and trust me do not rent at Jumbo Car Costa Rica
In fact we had an insurance for 2 drivers myself and Wim Ollieuz.
The police came and made a report of what has happened.
Anyway the help we got from Jumbo Cars was no help.
That’s very awkward , the car next to us was rented at Sunny Cars. The same day they got another car and were insured for all damage. Speaking of help?
That was said to us: full insurance. Once the damage was done… no insurance.

Quick and efficient service
Quick and efficient service. When we arrived there were people who have reviewed badly here telling everyone it was a scam. This is not the case. Everything was fine for us. We had plenty of time to check the car. There were minor points of damage which were agreed. The car worked fine, we started with half a tank and dropped it off with half a tank. No extra charges. The staff were polite and helpful and we could find no faults with them or the service.

Jumbo car is a scam. Do not rent from them. They charged $600 for a ding smaller than a dime on the windshield which we are almost positive it was there when we got it since it was nighttime when we picked up the car. They made us pay for a whole new windshield and screwed multiple people also in line with us. Staff is rude and the place is horrible!!!! Go with a well known company do not use Jumbo car EVER. Worst experience in 25 years of traveling and renting cars!!! They also said it was illegal to just repair the small ding on the windshield which after researching was a lie. They do not need to charge $600 for a full windshield just another of many lies they told.also
Read three other reviews on here about their windows. Again they are thief’s and scammers. DO NOT RENT from them!!!!!!

THIEVES AND SCAMMERS, Estafadores, ladrones, no los contraten
Estafadores, no los contraten, ni les muestren la tarjeta de crédito. Se nos pinchó una goma, el criquet no funcionaba y tenía un golpe en la llanta (cámara). LLamamos, les enviamos las fotos y nos dijeron que la llevemos a arreglar, que nos saldría US 200 pero si no lo hacíamos ellos nos cobrarían US 300. Prefermos perder US 100 y seguir disfrutando de nuestras vacaciones. Cuando devolvimos el automóvil nos volvieron a engañar diciendo que luego nos enviarían la diferrencia. Lo que nos enviaron fue un mensaje avisando que se quedarían con los US 800 de depósito y con la llanta también. Ladrones, en la Argentina se llaman "chorros", "sinvergüenzas", "delincuentes", "afanancios". Una vergüenza para Costa Rica. Igual estamos preparando la denuncia allí. Se aprovechan de los turistas.

Deposit was 1200$ instead of the 200$ stated at check24 where I booked. I'm still waiting for the Deposit to be released (returned the car Mar 7th). @Jumbo Car, when will the Money be back in my Account? At the Counter they said the Deposit was released the same Day. Other than that everything was fine.

Edit No. 2: quick reply after changing the review to 2 Stars - I'll get in touch with my Bank. If everything is alright and I'm waiting for my own bank, I will adjust the review again - car, service and price was all good

The staff at jumbo rental cars are criminals and will steal your money. They charge high deposits for the rental and try to keep it. They are also known for keeping bank card information.
The staff at Dumbo Jumbo rental cars are scam artist they tried to charge me a $2000.00 usd for a deposit forcing me to down grade to a smaller vehicle with no compensation to reduce the deposit to $1200.00 usd. When I paid the deposit I was told that the money would be returned when I brought the car back. I immediately realized that it sounded suspicious but I already had everything booked through Expedia including a hotel 5 hours and needed a vehicle to transport my family there so I took a chance paying the deposit because I couldn’t get a refund. When I brought the car back a worker told me the funds would be transferred back into my account instantly and I would receive the funds after the bank approved it. I waited a few days and the money was not there so called my bank and was informed jumbo cars never initiated the transaction. I spoke with a lady named Vanessa claiming to be the supervisor who was very rude. She told me she would send me proof through WhatsApp to give to the bank in attempt to throw the blame on them. I she sent me a bogus receipt that had no useful information and prove nothing. I currently have an investigation on jumbo rental car because they are trying to steal my $1200.00 deposit.

I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with Jumbo car rental. When returning the vehicle, the staff was extremely unhelpful and unprofessional. They kept a photocopy of my credit card and refused to destroy it, even after I expressed my concerns about security. I requested a document stating that they were keeping my credit card information, but they also refused to provide it. This practice is highly questionable and untrustworthy. The customer service was far from satisfactory. I do not recommend renting a car from Jumbo.

Really great experience with my car rental in Costa Rica with Jumbo car.
We were supposed to have a suzuki vitara but we had a better one, a geely, which was good because the roads in Costa Rica can be tricky to manage without a proper 4x4.
The staff were nice, deposit was returned on time, no surprise, I recommand!

Mon expérience est très mauvaise avec cette agence. J’avais payé pour une classe de voiture particulière. Et ils n’ont pu honorer ma demande. Ils ont tenté malgré tour de me faire payer le prix fort jouant sur l’urgence… et prétextant ne plus avoir de voiture dispo. J’ai eu beaucoup de mal à être remboursé.

We had a Great experience with Jumbo rental car company! The staff were waiting for us at the airport, they were very helpful and knowledgeable. They just opened this car rental company in Liberia by the airport.
We come to Costa Rica regularly and this will be this new rental company. We are very impressed with their costumer service!

The car broke down, terrible service and increased charges.
1. They did not pick us up at the arranged time from the airport. They were one hour late, despite us calling them that we had arrived and they stated they were “five minutes away”
2. They charged us two hire car deposits rather than one, and did not return our hire car deposit. Following the return to our home country it took our bank 2 weeks to return the money to our accounts.
3. The break pad fell off the Suzuki jimney in the middle of the jungle, and the breaks failed. After taking it to a mechanic and they assessed the problem. Jumbo car took 3 hours to respond to us notifying them of the problem, and did not provide support. Despite approval; the receipt, we still paid the repair out of our own pocket.
4. They charged us for a tiny crack on the windshield, saying it was $445 dollars, and upon charging us charged $455. When told they charged the incorrect amount; they “refunded” the $455 but it never came through and charged an additional $445.
They took our money, provided us with an unsafe car and failed to provide the service as promised.
I would suggest not going with this company.
