Good fish well battered. Excellent chips. The staff indifferent to the point of surly. Robotic questions, no warmth. Maybe they feel having a good product is enough. Wrong. Hi Tide round the corner much nicer people.

I have eaten hear before no problem but always dinner in yesterday I popped in for a jumbo fish and chips but took it home the fish although as large as usual was notisably thinner and about half way down became very thin dry and hard if I had eaten in I would have returned it for a refund (something I have noticed other dinners doing of late but always put down too fussy eaters maybe I was wrong) may be the shines wearing off from the amazing food of the opening days?

Member of staff was understanding to what I wanted to order, even interrupting me when giving my phone number! Never was informed I couldn't have spicy fish with meal deal 1 and said said she'd place the order, went to collect and it was normal fish, I said I ordered spicy, then I was informed you can't have spicy with the meal deal yet I'd ordered it 2 weeks prior with no problems, no apology no offering to exchange the fish, really rude

First time having mother Hubbards in Streatham ,
Was not impressed, oily and mushy discoloured chips
Fish was bland and dry
Only plus was the crispy batter
Also first time having curry sauce , thin and strange tasting .

Went in the Stockport branch tonight and very very disappointed,the woman serving is the rudest person who has ever served me and needs to learn how to speak to people with respect and the fish and chips are well below the standard of other mother Hubbards and left a nasty taste in the roof of my mouth, really really awful food and best to avoid really and go to the excellent Oldham branch

I will take this platform to share my best experience with Mother Hubbards Bury team .
All the team went out of their way and made my husband’s birthday an extra special one .
We ordered a coconut sponge with hot custard and when requested for making a surprise for my husband who was totally unaware about the greeting coming his way made it a priceless moment for us.
Highly recommend to enjoy the amazing experience and ambience and the cleanliness of the restaurant!
And above all the human connect !!

As a Yorkshireman that has suffered poor fish and chips in Birmingham (except Bedders of course) for around 30 years, I have now found a great venue in my home town of Kings Heath.

My overall score has to be 8 out of 10, and if it was on a plate and had a sea view (which is impossible of course) it would have been a 10.

I opted for the traditional Special Haddock with chips and mushy peas and my wife had a spicy version and we sat in the restaurant to eat them. I should say that both dishes were cooked excellently and the batter was not under or over done and were not at all greasy.

My only recommendation would be to serve diners in the restaurant with a proper plate, rather than a cardboard box. I might be old fashioned, but this would make it feel more like a restaurant, rather than McDonalds/KFC.

Visited this branch of mother Hubbard for the first time today was served by a delightful young lady called Imaan.

Food was very good

Newly opened in stockport
Fantastic for a few days
since then its gone downhill
went today and appears cutting corners
fish overcooked and chips appeared to be cooked in oil that seemed to be reused
Staff inexperienced and all over the place
will not be going again

This was the most disgusting steak and kidney pie chips and gravy that I have ever had the misfortune to taste. The pie filling tasted off,the pastry wasn't cooked, the gravy was tasteless like floured water and the chips tasted terrible. I won't be coming here again, I felt sick from eating it so threw it away. I've been to mother hubbards restaurants before and they have been OK but I think this has put me off going to any ever again. I would like my money back but I already threw the food away

The brand new Mother Hubbards in Kingsheath, is a beautiful, and immaculate establishment. We had a wonderful time there today with the family.They offer Great prices, and generous portions….smiles all round for a 10/10 service.
Will definitely be back very soon ! :-)

Had a bad experience at Lakeside Thurrock from a female staff member today, she was very rude. I ordered fish and chips and tartar sauce at about 6pm today for take away, picked up my order and went to the car park and I realised the tartar sauce is not there and I had to go back. I wanted to ensure it was warm so I ran, then I asked for tartar sauce twice. The first time she ignored me, but the second time she looked mad and she said that I had to wait for my order. I explained that I just wanted the two missing tartar sauce but she turned her back.Then, I went to the male staff member and he gave me it straight away. Even though I enjoyed the meal, I still feel angry to that lady staff she is the only lady there

Hoping this review is in the right place for Mother Hubbard's Baildon.

Took mum for her birthday lunch (her one wish was for fish & chips!) and it was lovely.

The restaurant area is warm, clean, comfortable and welcoming. Our server/restaurant manager/waitress was so patient, kind and friendly, without being intrusive. I don't know her name, but I know she's the same age as my mum and her birthday is 2nd December - she wished my mum a happy birthday and advised on the senior's offer.

The food was delicious. We all had fish and chips, one with a bap, some mushy peas and curry sauce. everything was perfectly cooked, piping hot and delicious. It's making me hungry again just thinking about it (sadly I'm 200 miles away and our local chippy can't compare).

While we were there, here was a single lady hiker, an older couple and a group of students in too. Everyone was served promptly and we heard them also praising the food.

Highly recommend.

Went in to eat in.
Ordered chips, peas and gravy. Waited over 20 minutes ( the place was empty) I don't object to waiting if I'm forewarned. Chips were very dry, peas in a tiny pot plus it came in a cardboard box! And wooden flimsy folk.
I paid extra to eat in so was expecting a real plate and proper folk. Won't be back

We walked in around 5.45, waited a few minutes to order in person as the shop was busy. We were served by Taylor who was very pleasant. He took our order and we found a table for ourselves as we were eating in. The shop had a busy lively atmosphere with music, chatter, staff bringing out orders and people waiting for their take aways. Ours was ready within 15 minutes. The fish was actually the best I've ever had from a chip shop, juicy, large flakes of haddock in plentiful, light crisp batter all perfectly cooked. Portions are generous and prices very good. I don't know why some reviews seem poor - maybe eating in gives the best experience as the food was straight from cooked to table, hot, still crisp and juicy. Everything was just spot on - our food included fish, chips and peas £10 and a Beef and Onion Pie extra deal with gravy and peas £6.30 all in. If you're in Stockport and like a good chippy meal then I would recommend you try this. Eat in first time for the freshest experience. We'll try a take away next time and see how it compares.

Ordered jumbo fish and chips from duckworth Lane charged £17 gave two small bits of fish overcooked then said nothing can be done no apology never use them again very poor to none customer service

Absolutely disgusting. Microwaved pie and old chips. The manager is about 20 years old and the staff were 1 asian woman, 1 jamaican woman and an asian cooking ENGLISH FOOD. Got a full refund and went to a proper chippy

Tried the new Stockport’s Franchise.
Unfortunately the chips were not nice and batter on fish was very greasy however the fish was big and staff friendly.
Other local Chippies cheaper and better quality so a bit of a let down.
