Be very cautious buying a car from Motor Plus, and don’t trust their vehicle check paperwork!
Avoid.
Shane sold me a 2025 reg car in May 2026 with an outstanding manufacturer recall, which I only found out about when I registered for DVLA MOT reminders. This is illegal for them to do btw, and judging from other reviews, not the first time. I had to take a day off work to sort it out with a Jeep dealership 45 min drive from me. Still deciding what to do about this, and whether to report to trading standards.
Also, within 24 hours of collecting the car, two dash lights came on for low tyre pressure and empty oil tank - I had to pull over and walk to a petrol station to get oil, then when I got home and checked the tyres, one had around 10 body work staples embedded on the inside edge (so I hadn’t noticed when buying the car).
I emailed Shane and he called back to say they must have forgotten “the final top up” when checking the oil (an independent garage I trust said that was bull, the light only comes on when it’s empty). Shane also said I must have picked up the staples on the road. But when I checked a photo my son took of me stood next to the car at Motor Plus, you can see a metal staple glinting on the picture when you zoom in. And it’s clear now the car has been in some sort of accident as there is repair work to the drivers door and front bumper.
I feel lucky that I didn’t have a blow out whilst driving, and that the engine wasn’t wrecked from no oil.
It cost me £415 for a new tyre and an independent service / check over so I could feel safe driving the car, and there wasn’t any other nasty surprises lurking!
I’ve emailed Shane again, and cc’d in Motor Plus complaints email address to make a formal complaint about all the above, as I felt they sold me a potentially dangerous car. It’s nearly 3 weeks and I haven’t heard anything back.
Work has been hectic so I haven’t had time to chase, but I am debating what to do next, and who to contact.
Anyway, be aware and check everything out (including recalls) before you buy from Motor Plus! Don’t presume (like I did) that because they hand you a vehicle inspection sheet, it’s actually been properly checked.
