Thank you so much for your guidance at the start of my father's claim. By putting me in touch with Alderstone Solicitors they have managed to secure my father a settlement which has exceeded all his expectations.

My father was diagnosed with Mesothelioma (Asbestosis) in 2021and I had heard of a charity called the National Asbestos Helpline. They helped with some practical advice and said my father was entitled to financial help from the government, but they also recommended me to Alderstones Solicitors who pursued a claim from my father’s employers for which my mother has just received settlement.
Without the National Asbestos Helpline, none of this would have been possible. Unfortunately, my father did not live to enjoy the settlement but it will make my mother‘s life so much easier without the financial support of my father.

Getting a diagnosis
Getting a diagnosis is a worrying, often long, complicated process. Where do we start and what benefits may we be entitled to ? These are questions I wanted to ask on behalf of my brother who lives in Australia but who originally we believe contracted asbestos disease many years ago when starting out as a builder in the U.K.
I came across National Asbestos UK fortuitously by searching the internet and it was the start of a very helpful process for my brother who has now been diagnosed with asbestosis and pleural thickening and has received both a lump sum payment under The Pneumoconiosis (Workers Compensation) Act 1979 as well as a lifelong Industrial Injuries Benefit award paid monthly into his account in Australia.
National Asbestos UK (Jan Garvey and colleagues) were immensely helpful in providing advice on potential benefits available (as above) and sending the necessary forms for completion. She also advised us on our rights and the likelihood of succeeding with any claim and also carried out initial searches to try to contact my brother’s first employer in the U.K. This information and help was invaluable. Without it we would have been lost.
It has been a long journey but we have finally arrived and getting the help at last that my brother so deserves. I hope it will be the same for many of you reading this review. Thank you National Asbestos UK for all your help. We are in a much better place now.

What a great team and fountain of knowledge
We only got to know about this Helpline from an artical in the Nation Press. Had a read into its contents and after dithering about it and being told by other people who had used it we made initial contact by phone. The advisor was very helpful and sent the relevant papers.
After further deliberation we decided it was not a route for us and we were contacted by Tamilola and explained our decision. What a wonderful lady to speak to, yes she agreed with our decision but on hearing the work history of myself and the medical diagnosis she then went on to explain the other route we could take and promptly sent us the relevant paperwork for Industrial Injuries related to pulmonary lung disease. Now had it not been for this lady and the knowledge she has we would not have been aware of any of this. We will progress further and it will obviously be a 50/50 outcome.
Having had previous dealings with Government Departments we will not hold our breath but when one has worked, paid ones taxes and national insurance etc.. perhaps we expect to much but hey ho that is life I suppose. Once more thank you for your help.

The service was of a very high standard. The call handler was able to give us all the information we needed and explained it really well so that we had a good understanding of what we needed to know. She also came across as being a very caring person and was sensitive to the fact that my sister and I had recently lost our dad. She was at the same time professional. In the end we didnt have an asbestos related claim to make but had we been entitled to claim I know that we would have had the support we needed and the process for us as a family was to find closure for dad which we were able to do in a very satisfactory way so we are very happy that we have been supported in achieving this.

National Asbestosis - Not a company BUT a friend.
It was on a Sunday afternoon when I received a call from my stepson, who gave me the information on National Asbestosis, I went on their website and submitted my husbands' information on line. I received an e-mail from them that same evening to request a time for them to contact us the next day, unfortunately we visiting my sister-in-law but arranged a time for Tuesday afternoon at 3pm South African time. At 3pm Jan Garvey called and I gave her John's medical history and then she spoke to John.
From that day forward we have been in constant contact and I cannot praise them high enough for the support and care that they gave John and myself.
The attorney (Henry Shields) that they appointed from Cape Town arrived on a Sunday to take John's statement, His comments on National Asbestosis was "I have never worked with a company that was so efficient with correspondence and telephone calls back and forth from England to South Africa especially over a weekend and late at night, I am so impressed with the care and support they show to the two of you".
John passed away peacefully on the 27th May 2018 and when I flew over to the U.K. to take John's ashes home and be with the children, I met up with Jan Garvey, who had to take a statement from me now that John had passed on and for me to carry on with the claim for the benefit of the children. I cannot express enough of the thoughtfulness, care, compassion and support I received from her during the emotional and stressful time that I was going through having to relive all what had happened during the ten months of John's illness and our life together.
Ronan Kennedy from the legal side has been outstandingly efficient kind and helpful all the way with the claim and keeps me up to date with the progress of the claim by e-mail and telephone calls.
I cannot praise National Asbestos enough for their support, compassion and most of all caring, I was treated like someone that mattered and not just a client, a strong bond of friendship has developed throughout this relationship.
All I can say now is Thank You from the bottom of my heart
