Home Insurance

I made a claim under my house insurance a few years ago, despite the initial call handler telling me that my policy didn't cover a leaking toilet it was all resolved, and can't fault that. (Well maybe some of the contractors that turned up never being given a proper scope of works but that's another story)

My following years cover went up in cost as expected, this year it's ramped up a further 29%, when I went to cancel it there's not even an offer to price match or try and provide a better deal.

Like most insurances, companies are using any excuse just to increase prices and profit margins.

I would love to support Nationwide

I would love to support Nationwide, being a mutual organisation, and it pains me to give such a negative review, but I find it truly amazing that they felt that without any claims this year, and being a customer of theirs since the 90s, they could increase my premium by 49.997% in one year. Ridiculous. When I called up to cancel, I got, "Do you want me to see what we can do for you in terms of price?" No. I dont like being ripped off, and as a result Im going somewhere else. A real shame as I want to use them, but £373 to £559 in one year is just not acceptable.

My negative experience with nationwide


My experience with nationwide until now has been good. I recently experienced roof damage to my home a few months ago. A contractor came to my home, and it was determined that my roof needs to replaced as a Result of wind damage. Nationwide informed the contractor that my roof can be patched. My contractor, then informed nationwide that my roof shingles Were Discontinued. Nationwide then told my contractor that they can patch my roof using a different shingle of a different color, which in my opinion is totally unacceptable. My roof would have patches all over it of a different color and shingle make. That type of repair Will Lower the value of my home, which I value and would be an Embarrassment To me and my fellow home owners… this type of treatment was totally unexpected from an insurance company of this caliber.

Great Service

This morning I had texts and calls from the Nationwide about some activity on my account that they were unsure about. I did not respond to the texts or calls in case they were scams but I called the number given on their banking app. The guy was SO helpful and sorted everything smoothly and helpfully. We have had issues like this before with fraudulent use of the our credit cards and they have always been brilliant!

I can't understand the 1 star reviews that some people have left. I think the Nationwide are terrific.

They claim they cannot refund me my money

After waiting for almost 3 months on a refund for a check that I never cashed. I finally received a message that unfortunately they could not refund me a check that is owed to me in the amount if almost $800. Because they claim they have no funds. What??!! Unbelievable. First they take all your money and they can’t pay you a refund check that is MY Money owed to me!! What can I do about this?? How far can I take this so I can receive my money???

Nationwide is participating in "AMERICAN GREED"

Nationwide is participating in the AMERICAN GREED that is driving inflation in the country. A company with the 'Net Worth of $300 BILLION" is raising rates is nothing but Corporates Greed. Auto insurance was always based on the driving record of the customer, now it's based on the "MARKET".

Avoid this crappy bank

If I could give zero starts I would, absolutely disgraceful closed my accounts all because I was given cash by my dying grandmother and had put it in my account, and because I am purchasing a property abroad clearly this bank has jealous issues. And now will not supply me with direct debit and standing orders I had set up with them,why you won't give me my information is beyond me. This is what you get for 7.5 years of service absolute joke

Nationwide is not on your side

Been with nationwide 20 years about seven years ago we had some freak weather in our area and it caused damage to our roof of the garage. Did one claim in 20 years Last month got a letter in the mail from nationwide that they had concerns about a camper that was parked in our driveway with a tarp on it so I called them to see why I got the letter due to not having a camper in the driveway. They said in July of 2023 they had a company take aerial photos of our Home and property Let’s just say their concerns spiraled into my roof my property, my garage,operable vehicles, my seven year-old roof needed washing they didn’t like the color of it. My garage needed painting. It’s actually a barn, and you can’t leave brush on your property it has to be all cut up and stacked neatly. They didn’t believe me that I had replaced the roof on garage so I had to send pictures. Meanwhile after I done all of this then they found more things. Basically the guy said that they were going to cancel me in October , apparently they think after you’ve been with them for 20 years you might file a big claim so they’re gonna drop you think twice before you go with nationwide they are not on your side

Just joined on 6 August '24. Failed to honour DD's. failed to allow transfer of small sum to Grandson for his birthday, failed to send a Card Reader!!!?? Who uses archaic card readers? Last time I used one was in early 1990s. Had enough after 72 hours and switched to another bank. Cut off on my call 4 times by 'so called' Customer Service - seems NATIONWIDE haven't the faintest idea of what those words stand for and perhaps not even the letters customer service. Sad disappointment that a Mutual can be this poor. I suspect the deficits go right to the top

Don't use Nationwide for 401k plans

I am an administrator for our company's 401k plan and we selected Nationwide last year to manage the plan. What a mistake! I would not recommend any company do the same - poor customer service on many occasions, lack of information, very poor communication when they transitioned to a new admin website, and they regularly ask for the same audit / compliance info that has already been provided. Just this week, I found out (on my own) that my account manager quit and when I called to inquire about my new account manager, they refused to tell me!? So odd! And they didn't offer to have anyone contact me as an alternative option. I had to have my financial advisor go through the advisor side of the business just to find out who my new account manager was and how I could get in touch with him/her. If it wasn't such a hassle to switch companies and move our company's 401k plan to a new company, I'd be doing that right now. I strongly dislike Nationwide and would never recommend any small business use their services.

I received a notice that Nationwide…

I received a notice that Nationwide would not renew my homeowners insurance because of some peeling paint on my fascia and some some mortar missing on my entryway stair bricks. (Neither are structural). Meanwhile I have invested a significant amount of money in various house upgrades (I.e. remodeled bathroom, new metal roof, new garage cement pad, and a couple other cosmetic projects). If I could give less than 1 star I would.

Nationwide home insurance - severe price hike even when no claims are made.

This review is for Nationwide Home insurance and not bank.

I have only been with Nationwide home insurance for a year and my policy is now coming to an end. My policy for next year has gone up by over £500!

I called to try and get price down but no leeway given unless I whittle down my current cover. I have been quoted less by other companies for the same cover and am now forced to go with them but I wish Nationwide would show some loyalty to current customers.

I have never made a single insurance claim, I get that costs have gone up etc and it had it been £100 increase I might have let it go but £500 is far too much.

When I worked in insurance we always tried to keep our customer base - it cost the company less to keep current customers than to recruit new ones. Not sure what their business model is.

If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. Nationwide is 100 percent completely not on your side. This company literally took six months after a house fire where we lost everything to do an investigation…. To basically tell us we were screwed. Six months having to literally buy everything and scrape by while paying for a rental and the house payment for them to blame us and try to get out of payment. Guess what in that six months our credit fell so far trying to stay afloat, we have not a penny to rub together so they took long enough that we can’t hire a lawyer and we are screwed but not before they quadrupled our insurance policy and took full payment on that. A bunch of crooks, nationwide is absolutely the worst company

Dreadful!

Dreadful!

Applied for a FlexPlus account. Had documents sent though for T&C’s. Heard nothing, went to activate insurance policies that come with the account and realised nothing had been set up.

Numerous phone calls, on hold, passed from pillar to post, went into the branch etc etc. Was told to reapply as there has been an issue. I was assured that the credit check would be taken off my report - I’m not confident this will be done!

2nd application - the same issue! Arghhh

Would I like to spend half an hour doing a 3rd application over the phone…errr no thanks!

We go on holiday on Monday and now have no insurance in place and wondering how opening a bank account can be so difficult?!

This company will do anything not to…

This company will do anything not to pay out a claim. They use BS reasons for making their determinations. For a recent claim I had with them their adjuster, my insurances adjuster, and the police had all said it would be shared fault. Upon the completion of their “investigation” they cited a lack of “scuff marks” to my vehicle as to why they shouldn’t have to pay. They have ridiculous rates. And according to many complaints through the BBB they are know to not pay out in claims. Buyer beware.

Roof Replacement

I got Nationwide insurance through my auto policy with Progressive. I decided one day that I could save money elsewhere and went with another company. Shortly before my policy expired, a terrible storm hit and damaged my roof. Despite the fact that my policy had expired by the time I discovered the damage and I was no longer a customer, the Nationwide people worked wonderfully with me to completely replace my roof. Top notch professionalism and customer service. I felt guilty the entire time they worked with me. As soon as my current home insurance policy expires, I am going back to Nationwide.

The entire insurance market is a catastrophe. Accidents are increasing because they hand out drivers licenses like after dinner mints. Law enforcement is a thing of the past and everyone is paying for it.
If that isn't bad enough you have incompetent customer service terrible online services with apps.
I've been with this company for forty plus years. It has steadily eroded. I'd like to say I'll be moving on to another more competent organization but the are hard to come by in the industry.

I am very disappointed with nationwide…

I am very disappointed with nationwide service I been with them for 6 years and 2 months and they blocked my account last Friday ! Since then i can’t get into my saving account or nothing else . I am struggling with finical money because of this and my wedding coming up next month I need my money from my saving account. But my account is in review ! Very angry and disappointed and stressed and customer service is really bad !!
