Review: Nation Wide Powertrain Warranty - A Frustrating and Disappointing Experience

I purchased a powertrain warranty from Nation Wide for my 2012 Kia Forte, expecting it to provide peace of mind and financial protection against major repairs. Unfortunately, my experience with this company has been anything but reassuring. Here’s a detailed account of the issues I’ve faced:

Initial Issues and Unfulfilled Promises
When I first encountered problems with my car, I took it to a Kia dealership for repairs, as expected under my warranty. However, after the repairs were completed, Nation Wide informed me they no longer had a partnership with Kia and refused to cover the costs. This was a significant inconvenience and unexpected expense right from the start.

Engine Troubles and Lack of Support
Recently, I started experiencing engine issues, which should be covered under the powertrain warranty. I contacted Nation Wide to ensure I was taking my car to an authorized repair shop. They advised me to go to Kia, acknowledging that the brand has had engine problems with this model. They also mentioned that Muffler Man was their new authorized partner.

However, when I spoke to Muffler Man, they expressed discomfort with Nation Wide’s approach. They mentioned that Nation Wide insisted on using used parts for the repairs, which they could not guarantee. Muffler Man’s hesitation only added to my growing concerns about the quality and reliability of the warranty service.

Unreasonable Documentation Demands
Nation Wide then requested the last three oil change receipts. I promptly sent them in, but they rejected the most recent one because it lacked the mileage. After correcting this with the oil change provider and supplying additional documentation, Nation Wide still found reasons to deny my claim. They questioned my driving patterns based on the dates and mileage, even though their calculations were incorrect.

When I pointed out their mistake, they simply responded that they would not participate in my claim, leaving me with no assistance and more frustration. Subsequent emails to their customer service have gone unanswered.

Misleading and Untrustworthy Practices
Throughout this ordeal, Nation Wide has been uncooperative, misleading, and dismissive. Their refusal to honor the warranty, despite my compliance with their requirements, shows a complete lack of integrity and customer care.

Additionally, it’s telling that they have cycled through four authorized repair shops in my area, all of which severed ties due to Nation Wide’s questionable practices and insistence on subpar repairs. I wouldn’t be surprised if Muffler Man also ends their association soon.

Conclusion: Avoid Nation Wide at All Costs
Based on my experience, I strongly advise against purchasing a warranty from Nation Wide. Their lack of support, unreasonable demands, and insistence on using inadequate repair methods make them an unreliable partner for vehicle protection. You’re better off saving your money or finding a reputable company with a proven track record of honoring their commitments.

If you’re considering a warranty provider, do thorough research, read customer reviews, and choose a company that truly stands by their service. Don’t make the mistake I did by trusting Nation Wide with your vehicle’s care.

Dreadful

After nearly 20 years with Nationwide, I will be closing my accounts with them.
Not once but twice have I had issues where my wages have not been paid into my account.
The customer service online don’t care and I was told that ‘if there is not enough money to cover payments, they will bounce and you will be responsible for claiming any charges back’
Totally unacceptable and uncaring. Shocking treatment of loyal customers.
Instead of paying out £100 a year, why not take this money and improve your systems so that you can be a bank which functions as a bank should. At the most fundamental level, you should be able to receive payments!

I’ve been with nationwide for over…

I’ve been with nationwide for over 30yrs and I am closing all my accounts with them . The local bank manager is shockingly arrogant and useless . Plus they froze my sons account and have refused to unfreeze it at the moment

They blocked my daughter's account for no particular reason given. No one on customer service can provide a reason,unable to withdraw any funds.
No information will be given for a whole month.
Suffice to say I will be opening her account elsewhere!

I have only had positive experiences with Nationwide, those who are in branch and on calls. The app is so easy to use and the security is really.

Nationwide adjuster was soooo slow and…

Nationwide adjuster was soooo slow and would not answer as to claims on my mom's house. It took years and my mom did pass away waiting for the roof to be approved ..finally it was approved and snow and ice ensued and the roof was put on this spring. Nationwide now said that the roof that was put replaced one month ago is out of the 2 year range. The adjuster is no longer there of course and they will not provide the final payment as it is 25 days past the limit. These people are arent helpful and never have been and have screwed our family and several others over.

Customer loyalty counts for nought.

I switched to Nationwide home insurance as I have my mortgage with them which gave a discount on the insurance premium. I have just received the 2024-25 renewal which has increased by over 50% on the previous year. I have not made any claims nor made any alterations to my insurance. This is pure profiteering, judging by the reviews this is their operating procedure-a quick search of comparison sites revealed that nationwide were actually taking me for a mug and clearly hoping I would renew without question. I was able to find the same cover for the same price as 2024 with ALL of the major competitors a fact I related to Nationwide who clearly didn’t want to continue to insure me as no effort was made to retain my custom. The call handler suggested that I make increases in my voluntary excess to get the premium down. Needless to say I haven’t renewed my policy.
There are much better customer focused companies out there.

Very disappointing yet again

Very disappointing yet again. Allthough i have ben banking with Nationwide for around 30 years i have still not qualified to receive either of their payouts! Main bank even uses the credit card company, All my earnings go into the bank, buys using the credit card but still do not qualify for any payouts from them, so i believe that the Nationwide is a 'cheap non loyal business' which still fails to recognise the customers that it has so finally switching this week to Santander which i pay my mortgage through and will get £175 by doing so!

Nationwide pushes you toward safelite…

Nationwide pushes you toward safelite autoglass you have to talk to a satellite representative, Nationwide should allow you to speak to a representative (of nationwide) to choose who will work on your vehicle. I will never deal with satellite based on past experience. I choose to give my money to you and want to speak to nationwide not a third party.

I've been with Nationwide home…

I've been with Nationwide home insurance for 2 years now.
I've had to make my first claim in 8 years.

My god, they really don't want to part with money, which they are contracted to pay, as I'm paying for their insurance service!!

Endless phone calls being made, endlessly being put on hold and then the phone hangs up, finally get through to a claim person who said he will call back and doesn't.
Make further phone calls, saying the item I'm trying to claim for isn't covered (even though its on my policy right in front of my eyes).
Checks with supervisors who say the item IS covered. The phone then hangs up.

And bang, back to square one, calling up again, different person, same issues and same process.

It should not be this hard to process a claim.

50% rise in home insurance this year

50% rise in home insurance this year, no claims ever made and no explanation other than 'cost of materials and transport has increased'. I have been a loyal Nationwide customer for years, however I shall be going elsewhere in future, I know that I can get cover for less than last years premium.

BEWARE OF NATIONWIDE HOME INSURANCE

BEWARE OF NATIONWIDE HOME INSURANCE. I DO NOT USUALLY WRITE REVIEWS, BUT HAD TO FOR THIS INSTANCE. IN AUGUST 2023, I RECEIVED A “POLICY NOTIFICATION” REQUIRING ME TO COMPLETE WORK ON MY HOUSE BASED ON AN AUDIT IN ORDER TO KEEP MY POLICY. WHO GETS THAT? NO ONE I KNOW WHO OWNS A HOME HAS GOTTEN AUDITED AND WE JUST HAVE A BASIC HOUSE, NOT IN A FLOOD ZONE OR ANYTHING.

THE REQUIRED ACTIONS INCLUDED (1) FIREPLACE CLEANING, (2) TRIMMING TREES OVER ROOF, (3) ROOF REPAIR. AFTER COMPLETING THE FIRST TWO, I CONTACTED NATIONWIDE TO CLARIFY WHAT WAS NEEDED FOR THE ROOF REPAIR AS THE NOTICE WAS VERY VAQUE. THEY HAD NO INFORMATION, NO ONE I COULD TALK TO AND SAID A CLAIM WOULD HAVE TO BE OPENED TO GET ANOTHER AUDIT DONE. WOW.

ADDITIONALLY, I WAS ONLY GIVEN UNTIL SEPTEMBER 27TH, TO COMPLETE ALL THE WORK TO KEEP MY POLICY. ONLY 1 MONTH TO COMPLETE ALL OF THIS EXPENSIVE AND TIME-CONSUMING WORK. THE NATIONWIDE REP TOLD ME I COULD COMPLETE THE WORK BY THE END OF THE POLICY YEAR, DECEMBER 31ST, 2023. I PROCEED TO GET THE ROOF WORK DONE PER WHAT THE ROOF EXPERTS RECOMMENDED, HOPE IT WOULD MEET THE REQUIREMENT, AND IF NOT BE GIVEN AN EXTENSION TO REDO THE WORK SINCE IT IS NATIONWIDE’S FAULT FOR LACK OF INFORMATION UP FRONT.

BY THE REQUESTED DATE, I COMPLETED THE WORK REQUIRED AND SUBMITTED THE PROOF. I CONFIRMED THAT THE SUBMISSION WAS RECEIVED BY NATIONWIDE AND ASSUMED EVERYTHING WAS ACCEPTABLE. UNTIL 2 WEEKS LATER, I GET WORD FROM MY MORTGAGE VENDOR THAT I DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE AND THAT IS IN JEOPARDY. NATIONWIDE CANCELLED MY POLICY, DID NOT NOTIFY ME AND I WAS WITHOUT HOME INSURANCE FOR 2 WEEKS.

AFTER SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS SPENT ON THIS REPAIRS ALONE. UPON CALLING, THE NATIONWIDE REP SAID THAT THEY ONLY SEND THE FIRST NOTICE (WORK TO BE DONE) AND NOT A SECOND. NATIONWIDE CLEARLY DOES NOT VALUE ITS CUSTOMERS. AGAIN, BEWARE OF AUDITS AND THIS COMPANY!

UPDATE: IN APRIL 2024, WE GOT A PAPER NOTICE THAT WAS SENT ABOUT POLICY CANCELLATION. WE HAD MOVED DURING THIS TIME AND IT TOOK 4 MONTHS FOR THE LETTER TO BE FORWARDED. REALLY? ONE FORM OF COMMUNICATION FOR SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS COVERAGE FOR AN EXPENSIVE ASSET? WE WERE CUSTOMERS FOR 3 YEARS AND NEVER ONCE FILED A CLAIM. THIS WAS SO POORLY HANDLED.

If i can put zero star to this useless…

If i can put zero star to this useless company i would. I made a claim as the lead sheet on the roof of my garage has fell off after the storm. Same as 1 brick of my front wall fell off the ground, i even showed that brick to the inspector. Guess what? Haven't heard anything from them apart from asking me to rate them how did they do... So after 2 weeks I called Nationwide and the lady i spoke to said the money will be credited to your account within 48 hrs. But that never happened. So I rung again after 2 weeks as seemed like nothing is happening, i was put on hold so he contacted the inspector company called Davies BVS then i was told my claimed was denied, and said it was wear and tear! My house is only 6 yr old how could that be wear and tear. And why they never contacted me! I had to call them and chase them. Very unprofessional people! Avoid this company!!! I will not renew with them and never again!!!

Asking us to return claim $

Trip planned for Caribbean. 3 days before our trip our island was in the path of a Cat 5 hurricane. Hotel said under a hurricane watch we would be asked to leave property. Search of flight, none would have been available to escape. We would have been stranded with nowhere to go. We elected to not get caught in a Cat 5. Hurricane turned a little so the hotel didn't close down.
Nationwide paid our claim. A gutless Nationwide auditor did a claims review 3 months later and they want the full amount returned.
Three employees of Nationwide said we had a valid claim. Not the auditor. Buyer beware!
Taking them to court.

i have been a custermer for over 30…

i have been a custermer for over 30 years in all that time i have only had one claim.I recently had to make a claim for some storm damage to the roof after a storm.Some one came round and checked the damage. they got intouch with me and told me it was wear and tear.even though ther were tiles on the floor were they had fallen. Have cancelled al my policies and gone some were more reliable

I have been a loyal customer of Nationwide home insurance for two years. However, I've had an extremely disappointing experience with my policy renewal process. It feels like the customer service team is actively obstructing my efforts to insure my valuable items, providing subpar service and giving the impression that they'd rather not insure me at all. As a result, I would not recommend anyone to insure with them.

Worst company to put your retirement money into. Don't trust these people with your money. You will never see that money again. They deposited my retirement money into the wrong account and took weeks to recover. I lost everything.
