Matt the teacher was very good, made training material very easy to understand ,excellent knowledge of the subject and time to explain anything
Possibly the worst course I've been on.
A classic example of the NICEIC telling us how important it is to have qualifications, up hold standards etc and then delivering a course like this.
There were so many frustrating things about this course, if you travel to undertake this course you will be disappointed and learn nothing
Even after speaking to the niceic and emailing my complaint no one has got back to me.
Here are some points;
1 Don't tell us the course is 9-5 and then run it 9.30-1 ( inc 75 minutes of breaks!!) and charge us for a day
2. Don't give us an unengaging course leader and charge us top whack
3. Don't deliver outdated course content on an ev course about using isolating transformer, earth rods, maximum diversity and mention nothing about pen disconnectors and dynamic load balancing.
4. Don't deliver course content that has nothing to do with the actual exam, otherwise what's the point of the course?
5. Don't have an 'exam' that has such obscure pointless questions that will not prove anyone's competency
6. Stop making a mug of electricians who loose a days work to undertake a course and deliver this. I could have just taken the exam online, it bore no relevance to the content
So annoyed that I didn't bother attending my other niceic course in battery storage. I thought that loosing 2/3 days of work to risk another mass disappointment learn nothing and gain a level 3 qualification to just tick a box was not why I undertake a training course
Very intuitive course every aspect of electrical fundamentals covered with some practical testing as well, great teacher Andy, explained everything well which made is easy to understand. 5 stars.
Well structured course with extremely knowledgable and friendly lecturer.
Course delivery was too quick with the lecturer just reading out slides. Course lecturer started just after 9am and finished just after 1:30pm, so approximately only 4 hours of teaching. During the teaching we were told to find out information from the EV guidance book and nearly all the students couldn't find the information relative to the subject but no help was given or additional time aloud and the course just moved on a the rapid pace. towards the end of the teaching the lecturer gave us 5 questions to look up in the EV guidance book, again many students could find the answers to these questions from the book and where told that "oh maybe that's on in the regs book" (we were told we weren't allowed the regs book in the test). During the test the lecturer left and just left the exam invigilator there so it felt like he wanted to go before we finished the test as he knew we would all have negative things to say to him about the course content. The test itself wasnt long enough to research all the information on the questions as the EV guaidnace book isnt set out well enough to find the information needed to answer the questions correctly, also some of the questions related to electrical regs book numbers and we weren't allowed to use the regs book so were unable to look up this information. Some how i passed the test with a score of 16, but this was me when having 3 minutes left on the test and still having 8-10 questions to answer, so i just clicked through all the remaining questions clicking A, B,C or D without even reading the questions. Over all i have learnt very little from this course but have passed the test and being an NICEIC course i would expect coming away from this course with much better knowledge than i have.
The course seemed rushed and did not cover questions that were in the assesment.
They made it very clear what we had to understand to be able to achieve a pass in the final exam as well as how to achieve that.
Lee was excellent very good and getting detail accross i would certainly use NICEIC training over others now

Worth a read if thinking of training with the NICEIC!!!
I attended the recent training session on EV charging at Gatwick and have to say it was by far the worst training course I have ever attended.
There is quite a lot to pack into this single day training course so you would expect it would pretty heavy, going through all the information regarding the actual installation of EV chargers, types of chargers and both the current regulations and guidance note books. But the person taking the course seemed more interested in telling us stories of his personal situations which I’ll list to highlight the amount of time taken from the course. This time should’ve been spent on the actual subject we’d all signed up for training on.
It started with a YouTube video on EV buses and taxis in a certain city in China and how they have over 6000 vehicles in operation. It showed the management and control of these vehicles from a central station. We were not sure what this had to do with the “installation of EV chargers” or what relevance it had to the course we were on. The main point at the end that the tutor seemed to highlight was that the video was from 2016 and that China were way ahead in EVs. Well who didn’t know that?
During the day he then spoke of his £50K EV on his drive, his wife’s EV and the issues with the energy company who came to install his EV charger in his “listed house”. He also told us a story of a 4 day trip his multi millionaire friend had to China sourcing electronic components and the driver he had been allocated for personal use anytime of day - 24hrs (Nothing to do with production of EV’s or EV chargers). An expensive painting he was importing into the UK from a well known artist. A house he attended with Heath and Safety after an electrical fire (Fire not related to an EV charger installation).
There were also times when a question was asked within the group and we felt it was never really answered. One question that arose was when to bond a section of metalwork. At one point it was no and then when a different exposed metal point was mentioned the answer was yes. When questioned why the difference between the two when in the same location the answer never really came only “I’ll prove it you to later” It never was explained.
When we ran through some mock questions before the afternoon exam we were asked to not just answer the question but also find in the books where we found the answer to help us with navigating the books for the actual exam. For one answer some people asked where in the book the information was located. The tutor started to flick through the pages along with the class and then popped up with “Oh this is quite interesting” and proceeded to explain about “Pantograph-Up / Down”systems. People within the class were left scratching their heads as to where the information to the actual question in hand was located as this topic was completely unrelated.
When it came to the exam, this was last we saw of the tutor. I would have expected him to be around at the the end to say the usual, How did it go, Thanks for attending etc, but no sign of him anywhere.
We were all also under the impression from the emails before the course started that the duration was from 0900 with a finish time of approx 1700, but we were all done and dusted by 1530 including the 50min exam.
We all felt that this one day course with a lot to pack in could, and should have fully utilised the full time
There were comments from the students like,
“What was that”
“If I haven’t passed, I’ll be complaining”
“I don’t feel I know anymore than I did from the start of the day about actual EV charger Installations”
Overall it was a deeply disappointing course. Although I passed and am now deemed to be “competent in EV charger installations”, I feel there is still a lot to go and find out about myself to ensure I’m fully compliant with the regulations for EV charger installs. We all know the level of risk we accept when we issue certification for an installation we have designed and installed, another point the tutor impressed on us numerous times was that it would be “us in the dock should something go wrong!”
It is worrying that this is the level of training that is being supplied by the NICEIC. With the new requirements coming later in the year for only qualified personnel to carry out certain installations I felt this course was poorly presented and executed, as did many others on the course.
Would I think of choosing NICEIC for future courses?Highly unlikely based on this experience.

Poor poor poor.
I feel like a complete waste of time and money.
The was scheduled to run from 09:00 to 17:00
We started at 09:40 then break at 10:30 for 20mins
Then lunch from 12;30 for 45 mins
Then exam at 14;30 and kicked out at 15:00
The lecturer was more interested in telling us how important he was and his history. There minimal information let alone training.
No results as far as the exam so far, but weather pass or fail I'm sure the result would have been the same had I just sat the exam with the code of practice in front of me.
Very disappointed and will certainly think before attending another niceic course.

Food at lunch was very tasty but would recommend each class has there own, as when we had break other class was already out and some on seconds which did not leave enough picky bits. Also would have liked a snack at morning break, just a biscuit or something.
Course was 4 days but we didn't spend much time at all going through BS5839 regs book which we should have from day one. Lecturer had not actually taken the test until night before ours so did not know layout or type of questions. Yes I passed by my own knowledge but should have been a higher pass mark if taught via the actual regs book.

Great process from start to finish, glad I have became a member as I was an initial applicant. The assessment process was smooth and I learned a lot on that day. Assessor Mike Moore took me through the assessment day and he was brilliant! I would recommend going through the process.
