TERRIBLE.. It takes a long time to do anything, I couldn't get the templates to work, cannot delete any unwanted certs and it doesn't let you type in any sizes of cables ETC any more so you have to scroll down on the smallest windows. Rubbish.

Like so many others who have raised a complaint it's a disappointing process.
I hired an NICEIC electrician thinking I would have some confidence and assurance that I was getting a professional. How wrong I was.
Consumer unit change of 660 turned into a quote of nearly 6000 - they the contractor refused to issue paperwork unless I undertook the work. When I complained they relented.
The contractor failed to carry out prework checks
The contractor failed to issue the paperwork (actively refused to issue the paperwork)
The contractor left our house unsafe
The contractor came back and left circuits dead after testing.
The NICEIC "thoroughly investigated" from a desk
Required me to pay for tests and remediation work.
Buyer beware - the NICEIC offers next to zero protection and we'll us NAPIT in future.
— update —
After the reply for the NICEIC
There is no point me re-opening
You complaints team washed their hands of the contractors behaviour despite it being in your code of conduct
I’ve reached out to my MP who is equally frustrated
Your next steps were to advise me to pay for testing of the contractor work and pay to have it rectified my self
So contacting you was a complete waste of time and effort
As a customer I’ll always go with NAPIT instead

I have a couple of issues with the NICEIC.
I booked the level 4 electrical design course a couple of months ago. Last week one of my main customers where i get maybo 40 % of my work blindsided me with a commercial unit renovation job that has to be completed by the end of the week after as the new tenant is moving in by this date.
This left me no option but to try speak to the NICEIC training department to ask if i could move my training course to the next available date as i can not risk losing this customer to a rival company and seriously damaging my business.
At first i was relieved when i called as the NICEIC as the lady on the line said she would move my course but there would be a £150+VAT admin charge for this, i thought this is very expensive just to change dates but i agreed as i have no choice. She then put me on hold and came back to inform me that as my course start date was under 16 days there would be no refund and i just lose all the money if i don't attend. I tried pleading with her to make an exception as i am a full member of two schemes within the NIC (Approved contractor and MCS). I was met with no empathy at all and told i am just the same as everybody else and to attend the course or lose my money...
Honestly this situation has put me under massive stress, i have been looking forward for months to attending this training course and it has always been my dream to achieve a level 4 electrical qualification and then move forward to gaining a JIB black card. But i was left stuck between a rock and a hard place, My largest customer who i cannot risk losing and the NICEIC training department who does not seem to want to even consider bending the rules to help me.
I know the NICEIC is not responsible for this situation but as a valued member of the NICEIC who holds two full membership and who has also completed many NICIEC training courses over the years and have never not attended a booked course, surely some leniency can be afforded to me regarding moving the course date.
I emailed this training department on the same day as the call, pleading with them again and also adding a more detailed explanation of my situation, but it seems they cant even be bothered to reply to my email and now the course has started and my money is lost.
Due to this experience i will not be booking any more training courses with the NICEIC for me or anyone else i employ.
My second issue is, the new online certification portal. It seems to me it was designed by people who don't actually fill out test certificates everyday.
Why have they made the process of filling out the certificate longer and more cumbersome? The old software worked great and did not need fixing? there were two modes to fill out the certs on the old software (1)certificate view, which showed the cert and you can fill in the pages easily and (2) data view which zoomed into each section of the cert. now with this new software you only have the option of data view which takes alot longer to fill out. why have they taken away the faster way of filling out a certificate and forced me to take longer on each cert.
I honestly feel that i need to start looking around for an alternative certification software as i cant justify having to spend more time filling out certificates which are still billed to my customers at the same cost, i am just losing money and time been forced to use this updated version. Why not just give us the option of both modes as you had before?
Both these issues have left me very dissatisfied with the NICEIC and there customer service and when my scheme memberships come up for renewal i will need to consider other options if this is how treat their members.

Just finished the two-day Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems in Dwellings, Level 3 Award course with NICEIC.
The tutor, Greg, was a true professio
nal and his delivery was excellent. Crucially, the group discussions were gold dust. I gained a ton of practical insight through the exchange of real-world job experiences with the other attendees.
This course is a solid investment in your career. The professional setup and quality content make it absolutely worth it. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to elevate their knowledge in fire systems.

Richard our tutor for the day took us through the unvented hot water course. Cannot fault it from start to finish. Explained everything, answered all questions, shared experiences and asked us all questions involving everyone. Put us at ease for the exams at the end. Overall cannot fault it. Thank you

I recently completed the 2391-52 training. While the course material was largely delivered through PowerPoint, our trainer Lee made the sessions highly engaging. He used real-world scenarios and humor to keep the group involved, while ensuring the content was delivered professionally and to a high standard. His approach turned what could have been a dry presentation into a valuable and enjoyable learning experience.

I was a bit disappointed, in the NICEIC battery storage course. The tutor was great and very knowledgeable, the venue was fantastic, but the course structure was poor. This is the 3rd time I have been on an NICEIC course and felt like we haven't covered a lot of what is needed for the exam. I feel like we could have spent more time learning over the two days. There were a couple of issues on the mock exam which differed from what we were taught on the course. The courses aren't cheap and I feel like I should be able to walk away from the course feeling like i know a lot more than before I started. Also, i was a bit disappointed to have to make the journey back 3 days later to complete my practical assessment for the course, it was a 3 hour drive for me, which I'm fine with, but i think the NIC need to take in to account that a lot of people travel for their courses.

I am currently MCS registered with NICEIC for heat pumps and I am leaving this review to warn other tradesman.
I cannot speak for large business's but as a small business owner they do not seem to care about you unless you owe them money.I run my own company with employees, admin and work on site yet the most stressful part of it all by far is dealing with NICEIC.
I was supposed to have an assessment which they did not turn up for even after I called a few days before to try and get a conformation, they then missed the email I sent with outstanding evidence requested by the auditor, and in doing so struck me off the register without any prior warning because I had not submitted it in time. No phone call or any attempt to reach out first.
Other times dealing with them they don't respond to emails and are unwilling to cooperate.
as an installer registered under the BUS scheme this has had a massive impact on my business, I have multiple jobs that cannot be signed off so I can't claim the money I am owed - which is £7500 per install. As an employer of 5 members of staff and a family this sort of money being help back is detrimental.
I have left 3 stars as the courses I have been on have been good and other aspects are good, I have just had a nightmare dealing with the renewables/ MCS side.
My advice would be avoid and use another certification body, or better yet avoid becoming MCS certified and stick with Gasafe which is 10x less hassle

Being able to have accomadation at the training venue, so no stress of driving to and from the course every day was a good point. The overall delivery of the course was at a good pace so information could be absorbed easily and with adequate rest breaks during the day.

I have raised a complaint with them — it’s honestly the worst service ever. You share all the evidence and the complaint form, yet they don’t even take the time to read it. Instead, they keep asking inappropriate questions and fail to take any action.
It seems they prioritise protecting unfair and illegal electrical companies rather than properly reviewing the evidence and taking action. Don’t trust this service or waste your time with them — report the issue directly to the council or the police instead.

The Fire Alarm course was excellent. It covered all key aspects of the fire alarm industry in detail. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the requirements for Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings (BS 5839-1).

I’m writing this as a homeowner who chose an electrician specifically because they appeared on the NICEIC register. My experience with that contractor led me to raise a formal complaint with NICEIC, and the way the process played out has left me concerned about how effectively the badge protects consumers.
After repeated cancellations and incomplete work, a civil dispute arose. During attempts to resolve it, the contractor reported me to the police for theft of tools. The police reviewed the matter and confirmed there was no theft offence recorded. A related allegation was closed with no further action, and I was not treated as a suspect (listed only as “named”). These points are evidenced in the police correspondence and records provided to me.
Armed with those outcomes, I submitted a structured evidence pack to NICEIC, including the police updates and other supporting material. NICEIC acknowledged receipt and asked for documentation, which I provided. They then explained that, due to confidentiality with registered businesses, they would not share any investigation outcomes with me. Weeks later, the contractor’s listing still appeared live on the NICEIC public register.
In my opinion, this isn’t good enough from a consumer-protection standpoint. Trade bodies need to be fair to registrants, but they also have a duty to reassure the public that standards mean something. Where a customer provides documented evidence that a serious allegation was closed with no further action and that they were never a suspect, I believe the responsible step is to pause or clearly flag the listing while any internal review is completed. At minimum, complainants should be told whether the contractor met the scheme’s standards (even if the details of any sanctions remain private).
