Outside Sales Representative
Dallas, TX
This is a typical review, based on my personal experience and talking with other reps. First, the system is ok for what it is. It's a basic whole house system that by far is less effective than a water softener system. The leads are by far the weakest of any home improvement company I have ever worked with. The lead flow is also extremely low. The average leads for reps are around 5 per week that you actually can pitch. All leads count toward your closing percentage, even if the customer cancels the appointment before you go, it still counts against you. So if you have 10 leads assigned to you and 8 cancel the appointment, AND you actually sell the 2 you run, your closing percentage is not 100% it is only 20%. If you happen to actually sell this system, your commission is a pathetic $400 which is 5%. unless you need to drop the price, in which you get docked $50. You are a W2 employee, not a 1099 independent contractor. This means you are paid every 2 weeks and, depending on when you sell a system and the cutoff date, it could be a month or even longer before you get paid. Taxes are taken out of your pay, so you need many sales to make it work. Most sales are not on the first visit, so they require a lot of follow up with the appointments you went on. Here is the kicker. After you make the sale, you are responsible for any testing the customer may want for the next 90 days! Yes, if the customer wants their water tested every week to see if the system is working, it's the sales reps responsibility to go back out and retest the water! You don't get paid to do this, it's your gas, your wear and tear on your vehicle and your time. Leads can be 2 hours away, and if you sell it, it's you who gets to travel 150 miles back every week if the customer requests it. I have never, ever seen this way of doing business. The turnover is obviously sky high. There is no base pay, no gas or mileage reimbursement, nothing.
