Believe that in effect i was ripped off as the insurers felt they had me over a barrel. despite speaking to them about a change of vehicle a couple of weeks in advance and getting an estimate of less than £100 they later put this up to an additional £170 considering I had recently renewed with them I felt this was them taking advantage of my siuation as cancelling and reinsuring elsewhere would also have cost me +£100 in cancellation fees.

Happy with the price overall
Happy with the price overall. However, I was surprised to see that the price on the RAC own website was more expensive than going through comparison sites. Then was directed back to RAC to complete at the lower price! TIP - always check a variety of easily available sites for the best prices.

The first quote that the RAC gave me…
The first quote that the RAC gave me was well over £600. When I called and queried this, the representative applied discounts and the price came down in line with alternative insurers.
My question is, why were the discounts not included in the first place?
Apart from that, I have been quite happy with the service from RAC Insurance.

If I could I would have given zero
If I could I would have given zero. I bought RAC car insurance today to start in 12 days time through U Switch . I was happy with everything. When I received the policy documents the system was one digit out regarding my house number. I contacted the live chat as there was no call centre. They changed it but then said the premium was now going to be £13 more per month because they had to change it. I said that can’t be right they said it was because they had to redo the policy and that’s how much it was now. I said I’ll cancel the policy as it’s not started yet . They said fine but we’re going to charge me £25 cancellation fee. I couldn’t believe it. I then spent 1 hour and half pleading with them that this wasn’t right as it was a glitch in the system regarding the house number. In the end I said I wanted to make a formal complaint and I will go to the ombudsman . They then said they would cancel and refund all monies which I will be checking in the next 5 days to make sure. Just be aware of this should anyone else decide to get a policy and there are errors.
By rights I should automatically get a refund because the policy hadn’t started or I could have made the change and it be ok without charge. I've just looked it wasn't live chat it was a virtual assistant. awful.
My policy number was 139663530-01
And complaints ref number 5802603

Ease of renewal and small increase in…
Ease of renewal and small increase in premiums makes RAC one of the fairest priced car insurers for UK drivers. I have never had to make a claim but have checked their guidance which is clear to follow with useful information and advice
