Founded by a US Navy Veteran in 1987 as a waterbed manufacture, Sterling has expanded to offer lines of Innerspring and Latex mattresses featuring interchangeable parts that allow you to extend the usable service life of your mattress from the standard 8-10 year, to 15-20 years and beyond by offering replaceable parts. This practice was held by the EPA to be a waste reducing practice as it prevents millions of mattresses from going to the dump. We pride ourselves on customer service, and hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality and on time delivery. We are FDA Class 1 Certified and HubZone Certified by the Small Business Administration. We are, first and foremost a small business. We may be under new ownership, but our main principles are the same. We will answer all calls during our normal business hours as quickly as we can. If we miss your call, we will call you back. We return urgent calls and email inquiries during weekends and holidays as quickly as possible, even when our office is closed. We are here to support you and our products. Aside from our web chat system that provides answers to common questions, you will not get AI responces from us. Web chat, email all go striaght to a person. Phone calls have a very simple phone tree, and you get a person 95% of the time. Missed calls are returned. We are more than happy to help you make educated decisions. Buying a mattress is incredibly important, and we want to make sure you understand what you are getting into with us. We were unsure what to order and a call…

We were unsure what to order and a call to Sterling and time spent with us to determine exactly what we wanted, and we received exactly what we wanted! The soft sided waterbed is awesome, waveless, and superior to what we’d been sleeping on previously. Thank you for the best sleep in ages.

Wonderful waterbed

Great customer service. Yes, I still have a king sized waterbed. The last mattress I bought was a failure and that American company seems to be out of business. Glad to see that Sterling was still making waterbed mattresses here in Southern California. Ordered online and got everything I needed. Draining and replacing is the hardest thing about having a waterbed. I usually do it every 10 years. It’s a smart choice to replace everything at the same time and was happy that Sterling offered all the components needed. Package arrived quickly with new mattress, liner, heater and water conditioner, all top-of-the-line quality. It took about a month for the vinyl odor to dissipate, so 4 instead of 5 stars. Would buy from them again and recommend. We bought the classic “sack o water” and it feels great.

Premium tubes are worthless

On Jul 19, 2024 I bought ten Premium 24 mil Waveless Softside Waterbed Tubes 3.5” that, with tax, cost $800. Since then, we have had three tubes fail with seam leaks which is a manufacturing defect. Each time one would fail, we would wake up in the middle of the night soaked. To add to the defect, the tubes were a already a few years old when we received them. Sterling did replace the failed tubes, but with the same tubes and I had to pay shipping. The last leak and the last straw was two weeks ago. I decided to scrap the Sterling tubes altogether and I ordered a whole new set of replacement tubes from another company. Seeing the manufacturing technique of the new tubes, I realized the main reason the Sterling "Premium" tubes failed and will fail in the future. The tubes we just ordered from another company have boxed ends, whereas the Sterling tubes just seal the tubes straight across the tube with no boxed end which makes this seam prone to failure. I am So sorry I ever found Sterling on the web. Their defective tubes have caused us a whole lot of miserable trouble. I want my money back!

I ordered these tubes on July 2024. The dates marked on the tubes: “Sept 2021”

These tubes were nearly three years old when I first received them. Sold as new.

Hi Ray, We went back and reviewed your orders. We have been in the waterbed business for nearly 40 years, and unfortunately leaks can happen. Waterbeds in general have been in a slow decline in sales for the last 10 years or so, and tubes specifically, more so. That is largely due to the fact that the more seams you have in a waterbed, the more likely you are to end up with a leak. Tubes are often trade off. If you do get a leak, it is far easier to remove the leaky tube, and deal with a few gallons of water, and still be able to use your bed, then have a leak in an 8" softside bladder, and have to deal with over 100 gallons of water. That said, the 8" fill depth bladders are less prone to leaking. In the case of tubes, they tend to happen more than in traditional bladders. we used to do the "boxed ends" you mentioned. We actually had more leaks doing it that way. This was in part because making tubes with flat ends like that take special tooling, and if the tooling is damaged in any way, even if there is a nick in the welding surface, it can result in uneven, or incomplete welds which can in turn result in more leaks. But doing a flat butte weld across the ends, we have more control over the welds and for the most part, we have fewer leaks. But even still, we only ever put a 1 year warranty on the tubes. That said, we still would have worked with you on replacements had you given us the chance. Yes it is entire possible you would have ended up with tubes from the same batch, because like i said, we dont sell those nearly as often as the full size bladders, but when we have a recurring problem, we have our QC team pressure test everything else that is in stock to make sure we do not have a bigger problem before we resend replacement. We do our best to build and ship quality products. Since you brought this up, and even though you did not contact us, I am still going to talk to our factory team and take a look at the age of the tubes our there, and get them evaluated.

As for the shipping costs, I believe we only charged you for shipping 1 direction, not both. Our warranty has been the same for a very long time, and shipping charges are only covered if it leaks within the first 90 days of ownership. If this had happened within those 90 days and you had wanted a refund, I absolutely would have done that for you, but as you are over 1 year from the purchase date, a refund is not possible.

I am sorry you did not have a good experience with us. I truly am. We do make very high quality products, and have for many years. We take these matters seriously, and we do try to work with our customers when we are alerted to a problem.

Best Mattress ever.

I'm 69 years old and have been sleeping in a water bed for 45 years. My old Sterling 600SXE sprung a leak after many years of use. I purchased a new 600SXE and couldn't be happier. Great mattress.

Excellent customer service. They even called me to make sure I ordered the right thing (I hadn’t) and they helped me correct the order over the phone so I got what I needed in a timely manner.

They are great again!

This is my second purchase from Sterling. I bought a soft sided water bed years ago and it was time to replace the mattresses. Anton was so helpful, ensuring I got the right mattress to fit my frame. We love our Sterling bed!!

A live person answering the phone is awesome. Anton understood my needs and helped me with everything to ensure a smooth solution. My needs were met promptly. The time line that I was given was great. When I picked up my order it was ready sooner than expected. It was even loaded for me.

Hands down the BEST place to buy your…

Hands down the BEST place to buy your waterbed and accessories in the US. The service is OUTSTANDING (Antoine is the best!), the prices are reasonable, and they ship quickly. When you call, you get a very helpful and knowledgeable salesperson—you don’t get that on Amazon. And Sterling makes the best soft sided waterbed out there!

This company does not follow their own return policy. They claim to have a 30-day return policy, but when I tried to return my order, they refused to honor it. The item I received was not as described — it was uncomfortable and the size was incorrect. Even when they “agreed” to take it back, they wanted to charge me for shipping and extra fees. Totally unfair and misleading. Avoid them at any cost.

Respectfully, that is a very unfair assessment of what happened. You ordered a 3" thick, Twin Extra Long (38x80) Extra Firm Latex. Which we shipped you. But you cant say it "was not as described". The length and firmness are both correct. You received exactly what you ordered. We only offer 1 size in the "twin" category and that is Twin XL (Extra Long), and we spelled it out on our website. You indicated that it was too long for your use. Which is fine. That alone is a perfectly acceptable reason to return something, and as you indicated, it was within the 30 day window. As it says on our website, that any products that are not a mattress (this is an accessory) has a 30 day return window, you are welcome to return it to us at your expense, and there is a 10% restocking fee.(summarized, but you are welcome to read it for yourself here, https://sterlingsleep.com/pages/shipping-and-return-policy) Most customers that return things to us ask us for a return shipping label, because our shipping charges tend to be a bit lower. We could mark them up, but we don't What we offer comes straight from UPS. In this case, it was around $35 for return shipping and a $30 restocking fee. That covers inspection and a new box for the item if it is returned in new condition. Its entirely possible that we cannot re-box it and may be out the product entirely, but we don't fault you for that. We would usually accept it and refund anyway. We are big fans here of working with customers as much as possible before the sale takes place. We are available to answer questions by phone or email, as well as our chat system when it is active on our website, to address as many concerns as we can before an order is even placed. I am very sorry this didnt work out for you the way that you hoped it would, however, in all of our interactions today, we never told you, you could not return it. We offered you an exchange, which was my mistake since we didn't have the smaller size in stock. We offered to cut it down to the size you wanted, and not charge you for the work if you paid the shipping. We offered you discounted return shipping tags to lessen the financial burden. You are still very welcome to return this to us if it is not to your liking. The shipping label i sent you earlier is still valid if you change your mind. I am not going to cancel it because of a 1 star review. We have a very long history of offering very high quality products, and working directly with customers. We imported the foam in this case, but final processing and shipping was done here in our factory, and all communications was through our office here in California. We take a lot of pride in what we do, and take it very personally when someone says we didn't meet their expectations. The only thing we can do here is present the evidence of what actually happened, and hope that this customer, as well as others that might read this complaint get a better feel for what actually occurred.

Sterling waterbed bladder to Sterling latex foam mattress conversion

We have been using Sterling waterbed plain "bladders" for years. After five years, under pro-rata warranty, the bladder leaked, and two replacements in a row leaked. We went to the physical factory and showroom, and selected a California King latex mattress that actually is in six components (three per each of the three layers), all held within an outer cloth bag with a mattress top that uses a zipper for closure. The unit arrived, was straightforward to remove each component from the cloth bag and easy to install into the existing waterbed wooden frame. Thus far, the mattress is working well.
