Yorkshire Victoria Sponge & Sticky Toffee Teas — 1 star
We had high hopes. Victoria sponge is a classic, Yorkshire Tea is a staple — what could go wrong? Quite a lot, as it turns out.
Taylors describe this as "a great big slice of vanilla-y, jammy deliciousness" made in their "top secret imaginary bakery." We found it to be an unpleasant artificial fruit sourness — reminiscent of sour sweets and dried fruit — that lingered long after the cup was abandoned. The bakery, it seems, really is imaginary.
Three sips. That is all it took. The aftertaste remained determinedly present long afterwards, as if to ensure the experience would not be forgotten in a hurry.
The sticky toffee had already warned us. That aftertaste clung for hours — detectable even in bed that night. Two weeks later, inexplicably, we allowed the Victoria sponge over the threshold. Some lessons are learned slowly.
Both boxes were swiftly gifted to neighbours before we could be subjected to further suffering. Our neighbour — a born and bred Yorkshire woman — sniffed the Victoria sponge box with the expression of someone discovering her county had done something slightly embarrassing. She hadn't even known they did novelty teas. Neither, frankly, should they.
Taylors, you have built your entire reputation on a proper, honest brew. This is not that. The nation's kettles are depending on you.
(Yorkshire Gold remains a ten out of ten. These are not that. We have since moved to herbal tea and have not looked back. The novelty teas have been rehomed with our neighbours — two adults and two teenagers. The teenagers are reportedly enthusiastic. This tells you everything you need to know.
Somewhat sad and surprised Taylors have gone down this route
I always thought Taylors would have been above the route of deceipt so very surprised you now use the same sized packaging to sell 210 tea bags in place of 240 tea bags but at the same price. I think even comparing 210 with 240, similar looking numbers is done for the same reason and I am rather sad and surprised an old well known Yorkshire company has gone this way. I think being honest and up front is always the best way and if your product is a good one then people will continue to purchase.
Exquisite coffee
Exquisite coffee from England's most reliable and quality company. Go try some of Taylor's stuff, and remind yourself what quality coffee is.
The annual Taylor’s company forum
Welcome one and all to the annual Taylor’s company forum. Lots of exciting news this year. Profits are WAY up! We’ve managed to increase the price of our coffee YET AGAIN and the idiots are still buying it because it’s better than Tesco own coffee. Mwahahahaha. Bonus for me. Bonus for you. Bonus for EVERYBODY!
I know. I know. Settle down. There’s more. Shhh come on now, I know we love ripping people off but I want to tell you the juiciest part. We managed to drop the weight from 227g to 200g and the morons haven’t even noticed! Our marketing executives are looking to see if we can lower it but they’re worried that even the stupidest of consumer will notice if it goes below 200g but WATCH THIS SPACE!
Now go! Go to your ski resorts! Your private beaches! You’ve earned it! (Well other people earned it, and we took it, but you know what I mean)
:music: Ceeeeeelebrate good times. Come on! :music:
Attentive Customer Service
I contacted the company to make them aware of a problem I had with a box of Yorkshire tea. My message was responded to within the hour, and I was sent a replacement product. Unfortunately, this had a short shelf life, so I made them aware, and a second replacement was kindly sent out. I am very happy with the service I received.
Loyal customer..lost.
A pot of Taylors "Hot lava java" has been a part of my morning routine for as long as I can remember.. However in the last few years the cost has increased from £3.50 per 227g to now a whopping £5.75 for 200g!! It's completely unsustainable. Taylors; you have lost a long term, loyal customer.
I tried the Italian Lazy Sunday
I tried the Italian Lazy Sunday, strength 4! after drinking Exhale Ground coffee it was bitter and weak. However, I persevered and thought I’d take it up a couple of notches, Hot Lava, Strength 6! 🔥😁 MUCH better, more depth of flavour,I have Exhale on subscription, but I will definitely be buying this again to keep in the cupboard, when I’m being being ultra selfish with the mega expensive stuff, but Hot Lava really does come a very close 2nd, I’ll certainly be thinking about my subscription in the new year! I’m a very happy coffee junkie 😂
Tasteless ..poor despite name
This is for Italian blend..
Dreadfully disappointing. Poor low flavour.supposed to be strength 4!!
I know it's a blend but...

Taste (green bags) was passable for backpacking but won't buy again as I found out the bags contain microplastics
Is there no end to deviousness
Is there no end to deviousness? Not being able to buy my usual decaff at Aldi - £2.49 for 227g, I bought Taylor's at Tesco -'special offer' 2 for £8!! When I got them home, I was dismayed to find there is now only 200g in a bag - an 11% shrinkage. BUT to fool us into thinking we are still getting the same amount, it is still sold in the same size bags which are then inflated with air to make us think the bags are full. Won't be fooled again, Taylor's. There ought to be a law that the packaging has to shrink by the same amount as the contents, so we can SEE how much less we are getting.
FYI Ann Purshouse, I leave my coffee to brew in a jug for 10 minutes, filter into a mug and microwave for up to 30 secs with no harm done to flavour
Bags constantly split.
I only buy when on huge discount so I can't comment on the price but the bags are useless. So often the bags split and ruin my cup of coffee. Kind of pointless having bagged coffee if the bags can't hold themselves together. The flavour is actually pretty decent and I can usually squeeze four cups out of one single bag! You NEED to seal the bags properly though.
Done with it
Done with it. Not worth the price anymore. Rising prices and shrinkflation. After drinking Taylors for 8 years, I'm ditching it for something with better value. Enough is enough.

will not buy again

I've used Taylor's of Harrogate After Dark Coffee for years, but I have recently seen a demise in the quality of the coffee. I didn't mind the reduced quantity as long as the quality was the same, but sadly my last few bags have been less than good. The depth of flavour is definitely reduced & noticeably weaker. my morning black coffee less than perfect which is what I have come to expect from Taylors. I am on the hunt for a new coffee that will deliver the nuances & depth of flavour I enjoy. Do better Taylor's I am very disappointed
Their prices have become too high
Their prices have become too high. Will not be buying any more.
Expensively Average
Expensive, shrinking, and very average coffee. Not at all worth the price now being charged. Shall not buy again.
The demise of the Taylors of Harrogate brand.
I really can't understand how a company that use to produce such fantastic coffee beans in such distinguished and easy to locate packaging has arrived at this point, it seems like they now turn out very average supermarket coffee in packaging that looks like it was designed by a six year old and that seems to change every few months,
I've stopped using this coffee now, it's just too much like hard work.

Sad that Taylors have had to come to shrinkflation .
Not very good for customer relations.
