We normally do wildlife and bird watching tours to out of the way places but decided we wanted to see some of the popular places in China and after a relative recommended Wendy Wu we looked at the Wendy Wu (Australia) site then contacted our travel agent (Jonkers Travel in Morayfield). We gave Jonkers Travel and the staff at Wendy Wu Tours very short notice (March) to book a trip for us to travel in May. Never having been to China before we gave both parties lots of questions regarding many aspects of the tour (particularly my slow walking) and they were both very prompt with their replies and liaising between each other on our behalf. It was a mammoth task for Wendy Wu Tours getting it all organised for us in such a short time. Instead of doing a usual group tour, Wendy Wu recommended we choose to do a private tour because I was concerned about the possibility that I would not be able to keep up with a group. I cannot thank them enough for suggesting the private tour as it made the whole trip so much easier for me.
The service was excellent throughout with great hotels, private vehicles, a total of 7 fabulous lady guides who catered to both our needs (my walking and our dietary requirements) first class train travel, VIP treatment (so we did not hang around in queues). There was just a couple of things that I will suggest Wendy Wu investigate that would have added to the trip but overall, we can thoroughly recommend Wendy Wu Tours for your trip to China.
Thank you to the Wendy Wu Tours staff in Australia and China for their professionalism in their jobs and making our first trip to China enjoyable and memorable. But wait, there was always more, as we gasped at the magnificent Avatar Hallelujah Mountains - amazing. We recently completed the **Wendy Wu Gems of China** tour and absolutely loved every moment of it. This was not only our **first ever organised tour**, but also our **first time travelling outside Australia**, so we weren’t sure what to expect. From the moment we landed to the moment we flew home, we felt completely looked after.

Our National Guide, **Michael**, was outstanding. His knowledge, organisation, and calm leadership made the entire 16 days run smoothly. Most importantly, he made us feel **safe and supported the whole way through** — from the airport pickup on day one right back to the airport at the end.

The tour itself is full-on in the best possible way. We experienced so much of China through **bus travel, high-speed trains, and a domestic flight**, and every transition was handled professionally. The itinerary is packed, but that’s exactly why we chose Wendy Wu — you see more in 16 days than you could ever organise on your own.

We had a fantastic time and came home with memories we’ll treasure forever. We would **not hesitate to travel with Wendy Wu again** and are already looking at what adventure to book next.

We recently completed a China by Rail tour with Wendy Wu tours and overall it was an excellent experience. The trip was well organized, offered a good balance of cultural, historical and modern attractions and provided valuable insight into China's rich heritage and rapid development.
The itinerary was carefully planned with smooth transfers between destinations. Transportation arrangements including a domestic flight, bullet trains and local buses were always punctual and comfortable. The tour schedule was busy but manageable with easy days occasionally allowing enough time to explore key attractions while maintaining a good pace. The airport transfers provided by Wendy Wu worked perfectly and were much appreciated. All the extra after hour experiences that we attended were exceptional the standout being the Chaoyang Acrobatic Show in Beijing.
Our National Escort Hoffman was knowledgeable, professional, approachable and had a great sense of humour. He along with the local guides provided detailed explanations about the history, culture and significance of each site visited, which greatly enhanced the overall experience. Hoffman's ability to communicate clearly and handle logistical issues efficiently contributed significantly to the success of the tour. He was attentive to group needs and responsive to any concerns that arose during the trip.
The hotels selected were clean, comfortable and conveniently located. Check in procedures were efficient and hotel staff were helpful. The quality of accommodation exceeded our expectations with good amenities and adequate services during the trip.
The tour included many iconic landmarks and cultural sites. The variety of experiences from historical monuments and traditional neighbourhoods to modern cityscapes provided a comprehensive overview of China.
The meals included on tour offered a diverse introduction to Chinese cuisine. There was a good opportunity to try regional specialties and authentic local dishes and occasionally replaced with Western meals.
We felt very safe throughout the tour and always kept informed by Hoffman about schedules, meeting points and local customs.
The only area for improvement was the visit to the Silk Mill in Shanghai. We did make a purchase but were subject to unwanted high pressure salespeople which made us reluctant to participate in souvenir purchasing at other venues during the tour.
The tour provided an excellent combination of history, culture, sightseeing and local experiences. It was educational, enjoyable and well managed. I would recommend it to travellers interested in exploring China's diverse landscapes, fascinating history and vibrant modern cities. An outstanding tour in all respects and we wouldn't hesitate to book another tour with Wendy Wu Tours.

The rail trip covered 6000kms in total at between 250/350kph on the bullet train. China is a beautiful, clean country where most of the people take pride in. Although it’s one of the most populated countries in the world you won’t see in the streets. I made it a point to talk to locals outside the tour through the google translate app and they were very approachable, friendly and happy.
I went because I didn’t want to see another western city I already live in. I truly believe western tourists are going to swarm China for a different destination to go to. My advice if it’s worth anything is to go now!

The 17‑day Wendy Wu tour of China, Tibet and Mt Everest was exceptionally well organised, with the itinerary carefully planned so that those of us not accustomed to high altitude could adjust comfortably. China and Tibet were truly eye‑opening — remarkable places that challenged many of our assumptions as Western travellers.

Our local guide, Addison, made the entire journey even more enjoyable. His knowledge, warmth and ability to explain the history and rapid development across the regions we visited gave us a much deeper understanding of what we were seeing.

The tour is easily a five‑star experience, as is the wonderful 10‑minute video Addison created from the trip. Overall, we had a fabulous time.

This was a fantastic experience.
Everything we experienced was faultless, from booking, to day to day of the tour. I think we must have hit the jackpot with our guide, as he made a fantastic destination into a fantastic trip!

The tour was well organised. We experienced the living of all levels of society. Good variety of activities to cater for most needs. Where people were not willing or able to participate in an activity, alternative arrangements were made to suit them. Most places in Vietnam and Cambodia accepted credit card payments. Found it inconvenient to deal in cash in Cambodia as they prefer US Dollars. We did not change our AUD for USD. This left us no opportunity to tip good service. Prior notice of the currency preference in Cambodia would have been helpful. Food quality might have been great for locals, but for Australians and Westerners, some of the food and coffee was challenging. The lack of potable tap drinking water was curious. We always carried plenty bottled water with us.

Overall, we had a fantastic experience on the Ancient China tour. We chose this itinerary specifically for its focus on ancient cultural experiences and architecture, and it certainly delivered. The itinerary was well considered and provided a rich, immersive journey through China’s history, culture, and iconic destinations—from Beijing through to Shanghai. Highlights included the Great Wall, Pingyao Ancient City, Xi’an, and the Terracotta Warriors.
A special mention must go to our National Guide, Ken Wang, who was truly exceptional. From the outset, Ken set the tone by clearly managing expectations and preparing the group for cultural differences we might encounter, including variations in amenities, accommodation standards, and food offerings. This was incredibly helpful and ensured we approached the experience with the right mindset.
During the tour, Ken consistently went above and beyond—particularly when we experienced an issue with a misplaced mobile phone. His proactive approach, problem-solving skills, and genuine care made a significant difference to our overall experience. He is a real asset to Wendy Wu Tours.
We thoroughly enjoyed the itinerary and the opportunity to explore ancient China in such depth. However, we were disappointed that we were unable to visit the Hanging Temple due to maintenance at the time of our visit. While we understand that this was beyond the operator’s control, it was one of the highlights we were particularly looking forward to.
In terms of constructive feedback, we felt that the itinerary included quite a number of grotto visits and temples/pagodas. While these sites are impressive, reducing the number of these visits—or the time spent at them—and incorporating more ancient city experiences or cultural immersion activities would improve the overall balance of the tour.
Additionally, the visit to the Shaolin Temple was somewhat underwhelming. While it is an iconic historical site, the experience felt overly touristy, with many of the buildings being reconstructed and lacking the deeper cultural engagement we had hoped for. The Shaolin Monk Kung Fu show was also disappointing.
Overall, this was a memorable and enjoyable tour, made even better by the professionalism and dedication of our guide. With a few minor refinements to the itinerary, it would be an outstanding experience.
We would certainly consider booking another Wendy Wu China tour in the future.
