Could be more ethical..
We have been customers for years and recently tried to use the refer a friend scheme and ran into problems - several of us live in a big shared house and I suggested other people use ethical superstore so I referred them. At least one of them placed an order but had it cancelled with no notice by the store. Eventually after waiting on hold for 15 minutes (tried to email 3 times but no reply) we were told you can't get a discount if you live in the same house. So they would be getting new customers (and money) from my referral but wouldn't give either me or the new customer the discount they advertise - not very ethical! They also let us down big time during the first lockdown and we only just started ordering from them again as so much has often been out of stock, right now I wouldn't recommend this company which is a real shame as they used to be excellent.
Great products but a lot are out of…
Great products but a lot are out of stock or on back order. They don’t tell you this, let you buy and pay for them, then don’t refund you.
Contact your bank to start charge back proceedings to get your money back as their support do not reply quickly (they are averaging one reply per week despite me emailing daily).
Where is my refund?
On the 5th of July, I contacted Ethical Superstore about a faulty solar light and received an email confirmation that I would be refunded. On the 18th of August, I still had not received the refund. I was only reminded of this when a 2nd light stopped working and I realised that I hadn’t been refunded for the first one. I received an email confirming a refund for both lights- only one was refunded. I contacted Customer services again, received an email and a phone call to apologise and confirm that this would be resolved on the 19th of August. I am still waiting for the refund of the 2nd light almost a month later.
There have been other problems with previous orders. I received a damaged order of cans of soup. The majority of were bashed to some extent and had clearly been packed that way. I made this clear in the email. There was no damage to the outer boxes. I was sent an email asking to photograph the box as the company was insured for orders damaged in transit. When I disputed this I was told that a standard email had been sent out.
Another order earlier this year was sent with already damaged items- bags of pumpkin and sunflower seeds spilt all over the other items in the box as a result. A bag of almonds had a hole in it as well.
I’ve been an Ethical Superstore customer for years. I’ve shopped more regularly over the past 2 years and until June (when repeatedly having to contact customer services was wearing thin) had been regularly placing around an order a month of between £50 and £200. I won’t be placing any more orders. The website has a great range of products, pricing is usually reasonable and delivery times have been good in my experience but the hassle involved in dealing with repeated problems with damage and not receiving refunds for faulty goods is not worth it. If my refund does not appear in my account, I’ll contact my bank to recover the money.

I paid £7.95 for next working day delivery but it did not arrive on time. My email to this company about the delay has been ignored.

Handy ethical supermarket for eco essentials
Super handy, I love that I can find most of the things I need all in one place.
Satisfactory outcome
Great to have a choice of so many ethical and organic products in one shop.
There was an issue in that the original packaging must have been damaged in transit which led to the courier company repackaging and as a consequence a few items got damaged. Ethical Superstore, after some investigation, worked out what must have happened and replaced my items for me.

Diabolical Returns system
I love that there is one place for lots of ethical products but I have had a diabolical experience with returns. I can't buy clothes without a good returns system and this is not a good returns system!
No instruction in package of what to do to return.
Website says return to ethical superstore but ALSO to call them.
Call to check. Told to return direct to manufacturer.
Given an address that's not on royal mail database.
Check again. Told quite snottily that it's worked for plenty of other people.
Parcel comes back to me.
Then told to return to a DIFFERENT manufacturer after customer service person mis-read my email.
Queried again.
told to return to Spark Etail. same company? Has the diabolical customer service been outsourced? Who can say. We'll see if it works this time!
Good experience
Just a small order but the price and shipping costs were good, and the order arrived quickly and well-packaged. I would definitely shop again.
Always receive items on time
Always receive items on time. Always get my eco nappies from here!
Great in general but....
Ethical Superstore have some great products and generally speaking I've had no problems with them. However, I cannot give five stars all the while they waste so much packaging. I ordered four small items that would have easily fit in a large jiffy bag but the box they arrived in was very big relative to what I ordered. The amount of paper package filling they put in was ridiculous. I always recycle it and it filled TWO carrier bags there was so much of it.
I have contacted them about this and got the following response:
"I greatly appreciate your feedback. As an online retailer, we must ensure that goods reach their recipient in good condition and so we use appropriate packaging to do so. All bubble wrap or void fill materials can be recycled and are, in most cases, from recycled sources.
We are always looking to improve packaging materials and have conducted a vast amount of trials to reach the most efficient and the most environmentally responsible solutions. We must offset the use of materials against the impact of using alternatives, which in most cases is damaged products resulting in a second dispatch, adding to carbon emissions and creating further, unnecessary waste.
The methods we currently use have proven the most effective in providing adequate protection and reducing the need for subsequent, duplicated dispatches."
I get where they're coming from to a point but this is not the first time this has happened. The whole point is we are supposed to reduce before we recycle and the amount of packaging they are wasting, whatever their reasoning, is very worrying for an ethical company. I hope they rethink this and consider using jiffy bags (which are padded and fully recyclable as well - many companies use them with no problems) for small items.
Ethical - but only up to a point
Hello. I took out a subscription with a consumer guide to ethical shopping yesterday. I was, on first reading, impressed by what they do. One product I was interested in researching, and improving my buying choices, was coffee. From the review site I clicked through to somewhere selling Suma coffee, and made an order. This was Ethical Superstore. I made an order, and because of my location [a Scottish island], my experience of various modes of delivery, and my ethical preferences about suppliers who dispatch with couriers with a poor record in terms of treatment of workers, I asked for my purchase to come via Royal Mail [who's workers are unionised and able to argue for fair employment rights]. In today's email, Ethical Superstore have notified me that my purchase is now with a courier company who are well known operators in the gig economy, criticised frequently for poor customer service and unethical treatment of their workforce. This courier is a company I really don't want to be using on ethical grounds and personal experience of dreadful service. I have actually just cancelled my purchase after a phone call to Ethical Superstore. I have pointed to them out that if their brand is meant to vouch for the fair treatment of coffee farmers, then it must also extend to the employment rights of the drivers who dispatch their goods in the UK.

Great coffee beans
Bought coffee beans from ethical superstore reasonably priced fast delivery and best of all good quality nice tasting beans.
Fantastic customer service
Fantastic customer service. Ordered a concrete bird bath. Was supposed to take a week to arrive but only took 3 days. Unfortunately it was damaged. I rang the help line and spoke to Sarah. Excellent service. Said I didn’t need to send old one back and she would have a new one sent. It arrived within 24hrs of my phone call undamaged. Can’t praise company enough
First Class Service
This company is what good service is all about two Laundry liquids arrived damaged in transit which was not the companies fault it said Fragile on the box, i called the company and the next morning replacements arrived Great products Great company to deal with,
Very confused by this company
Very confused by this company..
Order was dispatched within a few hours which was very impressive... but the order never came. A week later I contacted and a replacement was ordered. The customer service was polite and efficient, and was told a refund had been processed for the items which were now out of stock so couldn't be replaced. I didn't get any refund notification via an automated email which I thought was a little odd for an established ecom store but ok, sure, let's see.
Replacement order goes out straight away via a different delivery serive, again, so efficient...... but once again the order never gets to me. Within 24 hours it had been 'returned to sender'.
Again, contacted customer service - understandably I'm no longer feeling confident in this company and refund was requested. Received another speedy and polite response, "The whole order has been refunded". But no refund notification again or follow up and I'm feeling quite uneasy now.
More than two weeks later, no refund, no order in sight, no contact.
I'm now forced into the position of contacting my bank to dispute the purchase which is not the route you really want to go down.
This company has confused me, because they have a great range of products, and their customer ervice seemed good, but I'm simply out of pocket with no explanation and can't imagine I'll give them another chance.

Not VERY ETHICAL AT ALL!
Unhappy how I was spoken to and rushed off by An incompetent female staff member
She then also accused the courier of damaging a glass item without evidence even though I explained to her that the item tasted expired way before the courier had handled it.
It can only get expired if it’s been opened for over one month
and someone at ethical superstore decided to just send it to me anyway knowing the lid was already faulty.
The lid was faulty
She keeps insisting that the courier did it and that it is easier the blame
The courier so she can claim money back due to insurance already being paid even though I explained to her twice that this was nothing to do with the courier because I have had to this item before directly from the brand Company and if one of their items were smashed in transit then they all would have glass or liquid on them.
What kind of an ethical store hires a lazy untruthful person That is willing to blame others even after being given evidence that it’s not others fault except ethical superstore ?
not very ethical at all. She needs training
I hope they are all not like this. Just finding the easy way out of things even if it means lying A little ?
Shame on you.
Also they go over the top with excessive packaging in the boxes even if you Order two items you get so much paper inside which is a waste. Also I paid for item 8 days ago and only received it on the 7th day of ordering the customer service kept blaming the lockdown and social distancing even a year later they still can’t run a business properly. Others are doing fine but you Keep coming up with excuses.
I refuse to be ordering from here after how I have seen staff behave this way? They have some cool ethical products, but I notice a lot of their products are made in China. Given their Muslim internment camps and poor record on animal welfare (still test on animals) How is this ethical? Most Ethical superstore products are tested On animals. There are better places out there like mercola or totally healthful
My order number is
The manager contacted me right away after leaving this review he explained that the staff member made a mistake but I didn’t believe it Because she sent me three emails
Stating the same
Thing in three different ways and thought just close the complaint About her and hope she doesn’t think she can speak to others this way and because he had a few good points that the reason some items are in China is because they have a lot of eco friendly products. I did not have any reply about the excessive packaging. I do hope that the woman is trained properly to speak to customers in future.
I was refunded for faulty item at the end and found out it was actually the brand companies fault and not ethical super stores But still should not have been fobbed off

Decent Response in the Face of a Problem
I've made several bulk orders over the years and have always found the company to be easy to deal with and the transactions hassle-free.
I recently had cause to contact them about one of the products they sell, Ecoleaf Fresh Linen Fabric Conditioner. I'd bought 20 bottles ... as I loved the product, no shelf-life limit was in evidence, and was making up my order to over £50 for the free postage. But after 2 years and down to my last 5 bottles, I noticed the product was becoming very gloopy soon after opening and therefore wouldn't properly dispense out of my washing machine's conditioner tray. I'd put it down to the hot summer weather, but the next bottle had the same problem The makers of the product (Suma) basically didn't want to know ... after keeping me waiting for weeks, saying they were going to refer my email to their Quality Control Dept., which I then had to chase up to no satisfactory outcome. But Ethical Superstore very quickly got back to me to confirm they'd be replacing the 5 bottles as a good-will gesture. Five out of five for Ethical Superstore; zero out of five for Suma!
Excellent customer service & quick delivery
Excellent customer service in my experience - I ordered a bulk delivery which arrived next day during Christmas week. It was missing a minor part of the order, I phoned and talked to a very friendly staff member - and the item was with me by 7.30am the next morning! Very impressive.
