Placed order and payment taken but order not completed and no response from firm
Placed order and made payment then received email asking ‘can we help you complete your order’ and instructing me to make payment again.It also asked me to reply to this email if I had had a problem with placing the order which I did. That was 5 days ago and I haven’t had any response from them. I’ve sent a second email today but no acknowledgment. Non existent customer service
I'm not saying I never had problems…
I'm not saying I never had problems with my orders, but ESS is not a bad company. If there was a problem and you called them, an actual human customer service would answer the call and hear you out. Perhaps not the friendliest, but decent people. I can forgive a little sternness in the background because they must get all sorts of customer complaints, and I don't blame them if they get fed up a little.
Today, I called them up because I had a problem with the delivery company Evri (that is just one of the negative traits that they use that courier service), they listened and offered the most decent, reasonable solution.
So, thank you, Ethicalsuperstore. Honestly.

Great Online Ordering
Great online ordering service and great choices. Would like to see more bulk buying options with recyclable containers to reduce plastics. My only criticism is when I bulk buy products, I am pleased to receive a loyalty money off voucher but unfortunately, I never get to use them as they expire after only a few weeks. I spoke to customer services who were not able to help extend my loyalty money off vouchers which is very disappointing. Please can you review this practice.
Atrocious customer service
Don't use this company if you expect to receive your order. The goods were sent to the wrong address, lost or stolen and Ethical Superstore are taking more then two weeks to refund the money! Their customer service is atrocious.

Vast range of products. Well packaged, great service, Evri are a great delivery choice too. I love that there are drop downs so I can state vegan products.

Perfect experience, items easy to order and arrived promptly. Only comment I would have, is delivery box was huge from items ordered and it seemed abit of a shame as you are an ethical company and it did not seem a very sustainable option!

Love the idea of the ethical superstore, and excellent alternative and a good range of products. Deliveries are quick and it's well-priced. The website is a little 'clunky' and it can be difficult to find things. Just a minor point though.

This company is great. I recently started buying only ecologically sound products and tried a few companies before I found these people. Their prices are great and their transparency together with a huge variety of products mean they will get my business time and time again.

06/04/2025 - Enquiries team advised remaining items with courier and would be delivered 07/04/2025.
07/04/2025 - No delivery, contacted enquires team.
08/04/2025 - Enquiries team advised they had contacted the courier for an update and would be in touch.
11/04/2025 - Contacted enquiries team for an update.
15/04/2015 - 1 of the missing items delivered, contacted enquiries team.
19/04/2025 - Enquiries team advised they had arranged a new order of the 5 missing items (2 parcels) but the courier had advised that the 2nd parcel with the 4 remaining items was damaged, so they couldn’t deliver, do I want a replacement delivery or refund.
22/04/2025 - Advised enquiries team, I want a replacement delivery.
24/04/2025 - No acknowledgment from the enquiries team so at 5:36pm, I ordered the 4 missing items from a completely different company and all 4 items have been delivered by that completely different company, today (25/04/2025), before 2pm.
It really shouldn’t be this difficult!

They used to be an excellent company but have turned political rather than ethical and for this reason they have lost my business for good.

Time wasted by another company after non delivery
As with other companies lately the order of cleaning products did not turn up when it was supposed to and we were fobbed off on the phone and told the firm had a “contract with EVRI” meaning we had to wait about a week for them to tell them where the package had gone, then get back from EVRI, then at some point their poor old customer might get a refund. This company have missed out- after trying the product we were going to place a large regular order with them but have now gone elsewhere. After getting them to have a manager call me I at last got my money back.
I have had the same experience with many other companies lately including one that has the name of a RAINFOREST. I advise all of them to review the REFUND policies before they lose more customers - THEY HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THEIR CUSTOMER AS WELL AS THE DELIVERY COMPANY and not just for the product - the customer has chosen that company for the time frame in which the product is meant to arrive by. These companies are sitting there tying people’s money up which can be quite a problem if you are not well off.
Here is how the REFUND POLICY should work - the seller gives the customer a delivery date. If the customer does not recieve the product on that date - the delivery company should INFORM THE SELLER. The seller should then INFORM THE CUSTOMER. The seller should then give the customer the option of an IMMEDIATE REFUND. If the customer wishes to proceed with a refund the seller should IMMMEDIATELY REFUND THE CUSTOMER AND RECOUP THEIR MONEY OR THEIR PRODUCT FROM THE DELIVERY COMPANY IN THEIR OWN TIME. Or the customer can opt to try waiting to see if the product will eventually arrive.
As with all the other companies I have been having this problem with - when the product does not turn up there is no information about this on the website which seems to assume everything went OK. I then have to spend hours (in total) of my time chasing them up and trying to get my money back. I hope “Ethical” Superstore read this and think about it carefully.

Edit: upgraded the review as they got in touch and resolved the situation, so all is now good.
I accidentally ordered the wrong product (it was the same price and an identical photo, so an easy mistake). I realised as soon as the confirmation email arrived and tried to fix it online. This wasn’t possible, so I emailed within 5 minutes of checkout to get it changed. The customer service refused to help even though the goods were still in the warehouse. It was my mistake but the inflexible attitude means 3x the postage cost. An underwhelming experience and I won’t rush back.
