They really know their stuff!
Having been turned down for 3 dogs we were finally accepted. I was upset and annoyed at the rejections but now I am thankful and can see why I was turned down. It’s about finding the right fit for both the dog and the family. It’s definitely not just about whether the dog looks lovely. We’ve had our precious ex breeding girl for 16 months and she still surprises me every day. I think Many Tears truly do know their stuff and am so thankful to them for giving us the chance to adopt.
Very caring organisation
Brilliant rescue outstanding care of dogs ,cats and horses . Have adopted 3 older dogs from them over the last 8 years . They are honest in the problems you might face adopting a feral dog , all mine have been damaged ex breeders . I was able each time to talk to the foster mother. Which helps a lot . Would recommend this rescue
Many Tears are amazing.
Yesterday we had a tour of Many Tears rescue. We went behind the scenes and met many lovely dogs that are waiting for their forever homes.
It was amazing, the staff were so friendly and helpful. We were made so welcome.
The resident animals are so well cared for, lovely clean accommodation, beds, toys, coats and blankets. Play and exercise areas.
I can't understand why anyone would give Many Tears a poor review.
Maybe because these people haven't been suitable for a particular adoption, they have taken to being bitter and spiteful online.
Reading the history of these dogs, the Many Tears adoption team need to make sure they get the adoption right first time for the dogs sake and well being.
Well done Many Tears for all your hard work, rescuing, caring, loving and rehoming so many.
Many Tears are amazing.
My experience with Many Tears
In order to adopt from Many Tears, I had to complete a very detailed form, including my work/at home times, experience with previous pets both rescue and from pup, and undergo a very careful home check. This, I felt was a very good thing, as MT are focused on the needs of these puppy-farm ex-breeders who have had the most awful start in life, and finding the best home for each individual dog. As it happens, they didn't recommend I take the cavalier that I was initially focused on, as my current rescue dog is a bit bigger. Instead, I was directed to a cavalier/cocker cross, as she was apparently more comfortable with larger than with smaller dogs. It turned out to be an excellent choice, and over the 4 months I have had my cockerlier, she has settled in happily and is now a completely different dog than the frightened little thing I first brought home. What I found helpful is that MT put me in touch with a very helpful behaviourist that I could call for advice on how to approach gentle acclimatisation to a domestic situation and eventual training. What was also good was that MT insists that one brings the whole family to the charity, and the dog/s that the new MT rescue is going to live with to ensure compatibility.
Along with my sweet new rescue, I was given two little jumpers for her, a soft harness and a big bag of food to start us off. The dog had been spayed a few days previously, and this was checked before we left to ensure all was well. (It was. And still is). We were also furnished with a vet report indicating any conditions that might need attention at some time as well as a general health report.
The only thing that was potentially a bit of a problem was that there was a strict arrival time. As Llanelli is a long way from my home, timing our arrival -especially with an inordinate number of roadworks on the way- was a bit difficult, but as the charity has a lot of dogs to rehome and a lot of work involved in the care of the animals, the strict timing is understandable. Somehow we managed it.
All in all, I can say, there were a lot of hoops to jump over. I came away with a different dog than the one I'd originally had my eye on, and it was the right recommendation. All of this tells me that MT takes steps to ensure that the dog goes to the right home, and that I'd be walking away with the right dog for our circumstances. And it has turned out perfectly for all of us. Five stars.
I have adopted 6 ex-breeding female dogs…
I have adopted 6 ex-breeding female dogs from Many Tears since 2006. Five were yellow labradors and one beagle. Many Tears staff were always very thorough with their vetting of potential new owners for their very special dogs. The rescue is a most wonderful place of sanctuary for dogs who have been badly let down by humans, and is a fabulous start for those dogs as they begin their new lives.
My dealings with staff have always been positive, as have my dealings with foster carers. Five of my dogs were in fostercare. I have never met such a dedicated group of staff, whose sole purpose is to improve the lives of the dogs while staying at Many Tears, and then see them off to their new lives.
I have done homechecks over the years for people wanting to adopt dogs from Many Tears. And my dogs have encouraged friends to adopt from Many Tears too.
I wholeheartedly support Sylvia Van Atta, who owns and runs Many Tears, and thank her from the bottom of my heart for trusting me with Feather, Que, Queen, Snowie, Pernod and Isabella. I hope to share my life with more Many Tears dogs in the future.
I have had numerous dogs from Many…
I have had numerous dogs from Many Tears over the last 20 years. I have also fostered many for this rescue and others. I have always had the best information and support from the centre. I acknowledge they are extremely busy hard focusing on the dogs and their welfare. It’s an incredible team.
We have adopted 5 dogs over the past 16…
We have adopted 5 dogs over the past 16 years and very grateful to Many Tears for giving these dogs a lifeline to find a home as a pet. The rescue have wonderful, caring staff and always willing to help with any questions that you may have. I am full of admiration of Sylvia and the wonderful staff there who are always busy with the day to day running but will take the time with any questions you have. 2 of my dogs I adopted from wonderful foster homes and I still stay in touch with them. The adoption process went smoothly and they do make sure that you are the right home for the dog you apply for and quite right as some of these dogs have had an awful life before coming to rescue. 100% recommend Many Tears
A Truly Amazing Rescue!
I could not recommend Many Tears enough. Such wonderful dedication from Sylvia and all the staff. A magnificent rescue who save thousands upon thousands of dogs lives year in and year out!
Many Tears is the best animal charity
I have adopted from Many Tears six times, and every single experience has been truly wonderful. From start to finish, the process was warm, supportive, and reassuring. The fosterers were incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable — they took the time to answer all my questions and helped me understand each dog’s unique personality, needs, and background. It was clear how deeply they cared.
I even enjoyed the home checks, as they allowed me to meet compassionate, like-minded people and have meaningful conversations about dog safety, wellbeing, and responsible ownership. The office staff at Many Tears were also outstanding — friendly, responsive, and genuinely committed to helping both adopters and dogs.
All six adoptions were handled smoothly, efficiently, and with the utmost professionalism. I always felt supported, respected, and confident throughout the process. I have also fostered for Many Tears, and the level of guidance, care, and encouragement they provide is exceptional. They are thorough, dedicated, and genuinely care about both the dogs and the fosterers.
I have the deepest admiration for Many Tears and the incredible people behind it. Rehoming approximately 3,000 dogs every year is an extraordinary achievement, and I cannot imagine the emotional strength it takes to do this work day after day. Many of these dogs arrive after suffering neglect or hardship, and the compassion shown to them is nothing short of inspiring. These people do this work because they genuinely care — and it shows in everything they do. There is no other charity like Many Tears when it comes to rescuing and giving hope to ex-breeding dogs.
I have adopted 4 rescue dogs in total…
I have adopted 4 rescue dogs in total from Many Tears and the love and affection shown to each of them was second to none. All of them in some way harmed by puppy farmers without the intervention of Many Tears these amazing dogs would not have had a second chance at a life they should have always had they have learned thanks to Many Tears that hands can be kind and humans best friends for life. Many Tears has changed our lives for the better the team, the support and the genuine love and care they’ve taken with all our amazing dogs it was inevitable we would decide to foster. 60 dogs have been loved and fostered by us if a dog became unwell Many Tears were there to support and refused to let adoption applications go ahead until they were confident they had recovered. Thank you Many Tears for being nothing short of miraculous I will not adopt a dog from anywhere else.
Greet rescue .
Over the years I have adopted 6 dogs from Many Tears . They do great work and I'll forever be thankful that they saved my babies and gave them a chance of a better life . The work they do isn't for the faint hearted ,they see terrible things day in day out , you have to be tough to work in rescue. All of my adoptions went smoothly and I like how they try to make sure as far as possible that the right dog goes to the right family . They always have the dogs best interests at heart .
Simply the best!
Simply the best!
Fifteen years ago I happened upon this remarkable rescue. Having adopted Pip, an adult border collie,I was so impressed that I have supported them ever since, visiting the kennels on numerous occasions, occasionally helping to return exMT dogs in the saddest of circumstances- bereavement or illness. This rescue always steps up. My current collie, Izzy, was so timid I needed advice on how to help her blossom. MT have a behaviourist on hand, free.
Sylvia and her staff, plus the volunteers, are second to none, with the dogs’ welfare front and centre at all times. I have recommended MTAR to so many people without a moment’s hesitation. Many adopters return again and again, often travelling hundreds of miles because, like me, they trust this very special rescue.
Back in 2015 we rescued a toy poodle…
Back in 2015 we rescued a toy poodle from Many Tears. The home check was done quickly, and all correspondence was fast,we already had another poodle so she also came with us to meet and great and collect him from his foster mum. He has recently passed away and I’ve contacted them to thank them for all the fantastic years we have all had and I got a lovely reply. Keep up the good work and I would highly recommend. I must add our first application was a no! as we were not a match for *that* dog but our second application was perfect and we got a wonderful pet. They put the animas before you, which is how it should be ,as these dogs have already been messed around in most cases already.
I have adopted 4 dogs over the 20 years…
I have adopted 4 dogs over the 20 years from Many Tears . It is an excellent rescue I have spent weeks volunteering there and by doing that you see how wonderful the rescue is . The owner Sylvia is an exceptional lady who literally works every hour to help animals in need . I highly recommend this rescue .
Really disappointed
We visited many tears to meet a dog after having a phonecall with a lovely man. He reassured us a number of times that we would be able to meet the dog multiple times, to ensure that we could successfully integrate her with our other pets (which was extremely important to us as we wanted to ensure they didn't come to harm and to try everything to prevent any potential adoption break down). We then had a home viewing over what's app with a women who was thorough but not at all friendly. When we arrived to meet the dog, we were not welcomed. In fact we actively ignored and given dirty looks by staff when trying to be friendly and engage. They clearly loved the animals but are not adept at interacting with humans and were plain rude. We were eventually greeted (about 15-20mins after the arrival time we were given) by a lady who was much nicer. She brought the dog and sent us off alone on a walk. After literally 10mins, we were asked if we were ready to take her home. Shocked, I reiterated the conversation we had with the man and we were categorically told we would not be able to have multiple meets and that we had to take her as they 'needed the kennel space'. We tried to negotiate and after talking to the manager, the lady said the best she could do was let us collect her before 11am the next day, due to expected new arrivals.
We were absolutely gutted for ourselves and the dog, and also because we had thought the charity was more ethical than that. We decided to decline taking her home, despite this being really upsetting, as we didn't want to risk the safety of our pets at home. The did not get the extra kennel space and we could see that the dog was still up for adoption 2 months later.
It's taken me a long time to decide to write this and only decided to after having the complete opposite experience with another rescue yesterday, which was so carefully considered and reassuring, that it made me realise how poor the experience was at Many Tears.
Two stars is only because I can tell the staff do love dogs and because of the man on the initial phonecall. We would never return and actively recommend people against going there, which is really sad as we are usually so supportive of animal charities and all dogs should have a happy home.
Apalling
My previous review was removed, I do not know why. I only told the truth. Many Tears Animal Rescue admitted failings that led to my dog's death. Their insurance company also investigated and found fault with them. Many Tears systematically act to remove negative reviews.
The process for insisting on a resident…dog
The process for insisting on a resident dog only makes the situation worse because I now feel that I have no option but to buy a puppy.surely this doesnt make sense.
Excellent charity, well organised and helpful
When my last dog died, I wanted to rehome a rescue dog. I applied to various dog charities but with little success. Then I discovered Many Tears who responded to my application immediately. The dog I liked was living in a foster home in Essex and the fosterer could not have been more helpful. As soon as i met Tayce I knew how special she was. All the paperwork was done efficiently and the whole process was great. I now have a lovely happy dog who has been with me for 2 months. Am so grateful to the organisation.
We have been looking for a dog to join…
We have been looking for a dog to join the family my partner applied for one dog and they said no as she couldnt go to a home with children under 12.
They then gave him a list of dogs that would be suitable so we went there today for a walk around picked one of the dogs they said would be brilliant woth 8 year olds to get declinded again sayimg he couldnt go with kids under 10 . I would not recommend at all
Outstanding. 10/10
I have both worked with dogs as well as fostered dogs for various rescues for nearly 30 years now and I can truly say that Many Tears is incredible. The passion for making a difference to dogs’ lives comes from the Founder of this rescue, Sylvia, who has one focus only, one “obsession”, saving the lives of unwanted dogs, mostly dogs used for breeding and facing euthanasia. From a small rescue to the huge charity it is today, she has unintentionally inspired tens of thousands of people to choose to rescue dogs over purchasing pups from breeders; something desperate needed, particularly when rescues UK-wide are full. Quite open about her love for animals over humans, she said the day puppy farms are all made illegal she will be able to die happy. I have now adopted 12 dogs over the years from Many Tears, choosing the rather “wonky” ones, elderly ones, and overlooked ones as my preference. The staff are passionate and caring, and it’s clear they genuinely want to change dogs’ lives for the better. No question: 10/10
