At the RSPCA, we’re proud to be there for every kind— from pets in need to wild animals who need urgent care. Every day, our dedicated teams work tirelessly to protect animals, prevent cruelty, and offer hope in situations that are often distressing and complex. As a charity, we face difficult decisions about how to use our limited resources, and we must prioritise the most urgent and serious cases of abuse or neglect. This sometimes means we can’t attend every call, no matter how much we wish we could. When we’re unable to be there in person, we’ll help in other ways—offering you support, directing you to organisations that can help fast, and, when it’s safe, empowering you to take an animal to a vet. These shared efforts truly make a difference. We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness, patience, and support shown by the public. Together, we can continue to speak up for animals, protect those in need, and build a better world for every kind.

I've been consistently impressed by the work the RSPCA does across the UK. From rescuing animals in distress to running long-term rehoming programmes and campaigning for stronger animal welfare laws, they clearly put compassion into action every day. Their staff and volunteers are dedicated, knowledgeable, and clearly care deeply about the animals they help. It's reassuring to know an organisation like this exists to speak up for creatures who can't speak for themselves. Highly recommend supporting their work if you care about animal welfare.

I used the RSPCA website when deciding what puppy would be best for us. Information was clear, concise and easy to understand. I regularly visit the website for tips and advice on tips for training and puppy behaviour. The wealth of information on the website I have regularly used in my school work as I know it is reliable and trusted. Tasks assigned for micro volunteers are interesting and easy to do.

I can't speak for their phone lines or response to animal cruelty, which seems like most of the negative reviews. There is unfortunately a lot of animal cruelty in this country and they can only do so much. With microvolunteering, it's great for tasking and has a range of things to get involved in, really good initiative.

Called them to report animal neglect and they would not investigate, as they said they had a limited number of volunteers available.
Twice, I called them about injured wildlife on the road and they told me to catch the injured animal myself and bring it to a vet. So, without the substantial funding or workforce of a whole organisation, ALONE and with only a cardboard box, I did chase the injured wildlife for hours, catch it and bring it to a vet...
Honestly, I don't see the point in calling them if excuses and pity-me stories are all they provide.
Please don't reply to my review with some fake, hypocritical response. I believe in actions, not words... and, based on my own experiences and the other reviews on here, I can see what appears to be a pattern of justifying inadequate responses while vulnerable animals are left in despicable conditions.
Such a pity...

I am a microvolunteer for the RSPCA and I enjoy it very much! The tasks are easy and you can pick what you want to do. The communication is efficient and every opportunity is laid out very plainly. From the tasks I've carried out, I can tell that this organisation care about a range of topics and I'd like to do further volunteering/work for the RSPCA in future.

Just shocking. Reported a neighbour who has had nine or ten dogs in about three or four years. Is seen kicking the dogs regularly, then they mostly just dissappear. Recently he's had three British Bulldogs, the first disappeared after a few weeks. One died two weeks ago of 'liver disease'. The last one died yesterday because it 'caught liver disease from the first'??? The dogs are not chipped. He has acquired a brindle XL Bully puppy now, around two weeks ago. The last XL Bully escaped after killing his two Frenchies, armed police responded and he was rounded up and disappeared by the owner.
So at best; he is physically abusive. Neglects to get them chipped, medical care and registered. (You can't get XL dogs anymore, it's illegal.) At worst he is a prolific animal hoarder and abuser, who kills them when there is a problem or he's bored.
RSPCA:
Didn't listen.
Said there wasn't enough evidence to investigate.
When I said don't you investigate to uncover evidence? She said no? Apparently that's not how it works? When I pointed out a visit to ask him where the dogs are and which vets they were taken to would uncover lies. Much like the 'catching of liver disease' nonsense. I was again told that's not how they work.
I would say they would only come out in extreme circumstances where there's an open and shut case. Where they would undoubtedly be too late. Perhaps one they could highlight and fundraiser off?
No help at all, uncaring, annoying, a day late and a dollar short. I will never donate to them again.

A really nice organisation - volunteering with them is an amazing experience. The only critical feedback I have is that I wish their call line was a bit more informative. Me and my friend found an injured pigeon and weren't able to get any essential advice from the RSPCA help centre.

Rang the RSPCA about a sick cat that appeared feeding alongside the 20 or so feral/abandoned cats that I feed.
This one is friendly so I rang them hoping for some help. Their reaction was basically the problem was my responsibility and that I should catch it and take it to a vets. They do not have the staff to deal with these sorts of problems.
The tear jerking Tv advertisements that show a concerned officer turning up and taking the poor animal away to treat it are just a cynical way to receive donations.
This is the 2nd and last bad experience with them and I will not waste my time contacting them.
They did contact me back to see if I would like to set up a monthly direct debit to enable them to collect more money for not helping.

Volunteering for the RSPCA through the wildlife friends has shown me what a big impact this charity has on our environment and the local wildlife. The great variety of volunteering tasks available shows how extensively the RSPCA work to improve all animal welfare across multiple aspects. Tasks have ranged from improving my garden to accommodate wildlife, to helping to count and record species for data, to advocating online about their cause and goals. From doing just some of these activities, there were obvious differences made with many positive outcomes I noticed.
This charity really does make a huge difference and uses lots of effort. While tackling all these animal welfare issues across the UK is challenging, it is clear the RSPCA will not give up and this deserves recognition and appreciation.

I am happy to be a micro-volunteer at RSPCA. It is my way of contributing to the charity with flexibility. As a charity, resources only stretch so far. It is important to get involved where you can and help as many animals as possible. That is what matters.

Absolutely disgusting how they leave animals to be treated cat I was told not to feed for 24hrs after that still can’t collect animal maybe it’s got to be dead for them to care about it I will never trust RSPCA again completely unacceptable how they treat animals

We had an injured fox in our garden - heavy breathing, trying to move, basically very much in pain but still alive. We call the RSPCA and they just say watch it for a couple hours see what happens even though it obviously was not going to get better. The fox ended up slowly dying after 2.5 hours.

Antwort von RSPCA (England and Wales)
I just volunteer with them online helping them to spread the word of the animals. That makes me helpful and gives me a meaningful life, that is my little contribution to this world that many are trying to destroy by not being respectful with nature.

RSPA left a letter saying I was not in and needed to talk to me about a report on my Cats
I have no cats or any pets at all
When I phoned the number on the letter it took an age to get a call handler who told me he could not give me any info on the report and seemed not to believe me that I had no pets
I asked if an injured animal had been seen at my address so I could look out for it but he seemed he could not be bothered and said some one might call me some time he did not know when. If they were concerned for Cat I feel they should have told me what report was concerning having sent an Agent to my address. It all felt like a box ticking exercise.
.
Just up dating the review having had the reply
I would like to make the reader aware the note instructed me to call the call centre at the cost of my time and phone bill ,it took 30 minutes just to get through when as stated in the reply the call handlers can't talk about the case
What was the point of getting me to call?
Up date to the new reply
Seems the RSPCA can reply to reviews almost immediately but not animal welfare issues so shows where the funds are prioritised. as to the new reply
The call was for over 30 min at national rate £ 4.80 plus connection fee for something that could be done on line for FREE poor service
