Fantastic service from these guys here at in Dundee. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else. People often moan when they damage a car and think they shouldn’t lose their deposit. If you’re not happy with the terms, don’t hire a car in the first place. If you damage your own car, you have to pay to get it fixed, so what’s the difference? I thought I’d point that out, as I’ve noticed customers leave bad reviews when they lose their deposit. In that case, take out the cover insurance—it’s not fair otherwise. NEVER use this company – zero customer service and very rude indeed. The manager in Hereford refused to rent me a car even though I had paid for it – I accept that I didn’t have my Passport (which she wanted to scan) but I offered to email a pdf scan from my laptop. She refused to find a way to resolve the situation and was rude and nasty. I will never use Thrifty again and advise others that they are to be avoided – if you don’t believe me read the other reviews on this thread - atrocious!

I was told to come in at 8.30am for a car swap, on arrival no one knew I was coming, stood around for over 30min while a car was sorted

4 people out the back just having a chat about what they would do if they won the lottery and a new car he wants

If they worked together I would have been in and out. Awful customer service

Got told my hire car would be ready for 8:30am so I arrived at that time, upon arrival I got told it wasn’t ready as it was being checked and cleaned and would take one hour so I took a walk came back after an hour and waited another hour lady at the counter was rude and didn’t even care I’d been waiting for 2 hours every time I asked for an update she was reluctant to give a proper answer. Eventually I got the car and it was filthy on the inside and they had been supposedly cleaning it for the last 2 hours terrible service and a big waste of time highly unreliable. I was in a car crash and the insurance company used this rental service to provide me with a company car
The car arrived and the guy who delivered it was really nice and gave me some warning as to what they'll look out for. Thankfully I've taken photos of the rim after he said to. When returning the vehicle they say I have scratched the rim of the car,when it arrived like that.

The money has then attempted to come out of the bank and hasn't due to lack of fund (day before payday). Received another email about this.

Tried to ring and find out more about what is going on. Had 1 email saying I've damaged the vehicle and another saying it's now going to credit control.

The only response I was really given is I am going to have to wait for them to contact me and there is nothing they can do.

Felt bad for the woman behind the reception as it's only her job but they've not done enough to support or inform me through this process and a lack of information is clearly hindering the customer experience

Still waiting for more information and an explanation onto why I'm being charged for a car that arrived scratched and scuffed now being placed into my blame

Thought I’d give them a try instead of my usual southern self drive . Went into Thrifty Portsmouth today to collect my van I had ordered and paid for 3 days rental . Got told I had only rented it for one day so I showed him the paperwork . He didn’t give two hoots just said there wasn’t a van available . Said he would sort a refund out , caused me a massive inconvenience as I needed it for an important work task . Let’s see if the refund materialises . Won’t bother with them again. Very poor

Very friendly staff members right from the off and the collection, drop off and service was very smooth, I’ll definitely be using this company / branch again in the future

I want to say that this is a cheap reliable company but if it seems too good to be true it normally is. I am a regular hirer of vehicles overseas, and never thought this sort of experience would happen in the UK. However, I Hired a LWB van from the Taunton office on Friday 27/09/2024,to be returned on Monday 30/09/2024. When the guy came out to do the inspection we went around the vehicle highlighting scuff marks very quicky. pointing out marks that you would struggle to see. and he brushed through them very quickly. he was so fast I said to him I could barely see a mark and then asked how big does a mark have to be before they mark it down as damaged which he didn't answer. anyway when he went do the rear inspection he opened one of the rear doors and looked inside briefly and said it's all very good, no panel damage and the floor is clean. I signed and took the vehicle away. The next day when we went to use the van we opened both rear doors and noticed the panel on the interior of the left door had been broken. I thought nothing of this as surely the inspector would have had this on his device and should have pointed it out to me. Anyhow we used the van to move some old beds and mattresses and some doors. all secured with the doors up to the bulkhead. when we returned the van there was some paint transfer from the doors to the bulkhead and nothing more. Today I had a different man doing the inspection. who claimed to know the van and where all the damage was and whizzed round in under a minute. not inspecting the rear at all, even though I ask him if he was going to. He told me all was ok, and I asked if I should sign the return in the same way that I had when I collected, he said no and that everything would be ok and he would do the paperwork and and I would get my deposit back. However later on today I received an email to say that the vehicle had major damage to the interior where there had been paint transfer and that the rear interior door panel on the right door was damaged, where in fact there was no damage whatsoever. I shall be visiting the office in the morning to thrash this out with them. However this appears to be a scam that I only ever thought existed overseas. clearly not. and I shall liaising with my credit card company to ensure that thrifty do not try and claim my £750 deposit for a bit of paint transfer and damage to a door that doesn't exit

Pretty much the cheapest car rental I could find anywhere, while my own car was in the garage for a number of weeks having a mystery fault diagnosed. Great value and service that was both efficient and flexible (especially when I needed to keep extending the rental period). Would certainly use again.

I am extremely disappointed with the service from Thrifty Car Hire. I raised two separate complaints via Direct Line due to several issues, including delivery delays, being repeatedly misinformed, and receiving a threatening and distressing voicemail falsely claiming that the car was missing and that the police would be contacted. To make matters worse, there was confusion over my insurance coverage, despite having spoken with Thrifty on the same day about extending my hire due to delays with my own vehicle’s repair.

I’ve had to spend considerable personal and work time chasing this issue, and yet there is still no progress. The entire experience has been stressful and frustrating, and I expected far better service from a company like Thrifty.

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Thrifty Car Hire and urge others to be cautious when choosing them.

Had a disappointing experience and would not recommend using this company at all.
From the abrupt customer service all the way to saying the vehicle tires needing air as they are bulging. I was then handed over to another member of staff as apparently It’s been picky.

They went out of their way to help me get the required documents, I'm very grateful to them for this!

Hire car was delivered after I'd had a car accident. Got in the car the next day and there was tire warning. I popped some air in. Only to find it flat a few days later. Called and was told it was covered and a new tire was put on. I have now been billed for the tire. I called again to be told it was a mistake and it's by Thrifty assist and I would be sent an email confirming. Now however they are telling me it's a mistake and I'm liable. 2 separate occasions I was misinformed.

Point is, the car had a puncture. It didn't show when they took a picture of the dash and I didn't drive that day. Absolute rip off, incorrect information given twice for a defective vehicle. I'm now told I cannot make a complaint?

Excellent service from start to finish. I cannot fault the team at Thrifty, Kings Lynn. They are always helpful and friendly. The whole rental process is made easy. I had a move to complete for my daughter in a day and not having any concerns over the rental of the van made everything much easier. Highly recommended.

Great service, lovely car, nice price - especially the sane extra driver fee (£10p/d but capped at £100. Our hire was 41 days).
