Despite their glowing reputation and ad on LBC, I would love to use them to find a qualified gardener but have never found any in my area on their site. They propose others from all over the country who are unlikely to be willing to travel far outside which is very unhelpful!

Hi there,
Thank you for speaking with us.
Our website matches the trade you select with the postcode you enter. We appreciate that finding the right trader can sometimes be confusing, so we provide guidance within each category to help you with your search.
Depending on the type of work you require, the trade you are looking for may also be listed under related categories. For example, a Gardener may also be found under Landscape Gardener and Garden Maintenance. When you begin typing the trade, a drop-down list will appear to help you identify and select the relevant trade.
To further assist you, we also shared details of additional local traders covering your postcode area. We hope this gives you a wider choice and helps you find a reputable trader through our website.
Thank you again for taking the time to speak with us, and we hope you can find a suitable trader.
Kind regards,
The TrustATrader Team
A better site for searching for a trades person.
I think some other sites have now potentially been compromised. I strongly suspect that some reviews are not entirely genuine, having booked and then experienced very inconsistent (to the reviews) trades people.
I turned to TrustATrader to see if I felt any more comfortable with the reviews. I am very pleased so far.

Trust a trader model is flawed
Trust a trader offer zero protection against bad traders. My nan who was 90 at the time need a flat roof above the porch fitting.
Her daughter on her behalf used trust a trader to find a roofer. The roofer came out took no money upfront and priced the job.
We accepted the quote and they came on time and started the roof. When they came they ripped the roof off quickly and efficiently and that's when they hit her with another cost because the valuable lead flashing was "cracked" and needed to be replaced. Of course they would take the flashing away and replace it for £500.
At this point my 90 year nan she felt she had no choice as they had removed the roof and felt vulnerable and if she argued the cost they may leave her without the roof so she reluctantly agreed.
The next day she told me what happened and I insisted she call Trust a trader to help get this remedied.
However if she called you this unscrupulous firm would know it was her and where she lives despite it being anonymous.
As soon as and extra £500 or situation is questioned by trust a trader they would know it was her.
This worried her and she did not want the hassle at her age.
I checked the new flashing and it was not replaced with lead but a roll of cheap flashing tape that costs £25. So she paid £475 for a £25 roll of tape and they made money from her 'cracked' lead which they took without asking.
In conclusion all in all there are unscrupulous traders and con artists on trust a trader.
Any offer of protection Trust a trader gives becomes null and void when the trader you are reporting puts 2 and 2 together and realises who has reported them. Nothing to stop them coming to your front door.
And people that scam old people out of money are probably likely to be bad people.
