Traveling to the Andean plateau of Peru - specifically Machu Picchu, Cusco, and Lake Titicaca - has been high on my bucket list. I didn't want to go with the herd; I didn't want to go alone. Yampu customized the perfect 10-day tour for two friends and me: we experienced Peru, we didn't just see it.

The Yampu tour to Peru included visits to indigenous communities, the opportunity to understand local history and customs one-on-one. Each one of our guides was knowledgeable, very flexible and responsive to our questions and requests. As they spoke Quechuan as their "first language" we felt even closer to the local communities, not just tourists passing through.

Peru was my second trip with Yampu but far from my last. As a "baby-boomer" traveler, Yampu makes travel a pleasure with an end-to-end customized luxury. Yampu was nimble in response to the unexpected. When my friend forgot some clothes in a hotel room drawer, Yampu representatives arranged for the package delivered to the next destination.

The schedule - at times a bit complicated - was executed with perfection. It was always so great to see a smiling Yampu representative greet us at each point in the itinerary, from airport pick-up to delivery at trip's end. I loved winding up in Lima - it confirmed the paradox of Peru - at once very modern and "hip" together with an ancient culture and deep connection to the natural world.

One last thing; the "hard-copy" itinerary from Yampu, including trip tips from restaurant recommendations to tipping guidelines, was invaluable. Mine is dog-eared from use on the trip and now a great reference. I also appreciated Yampu's reading list on Peru. I might add my own find, The Peru Reader, a compilation of essays on Peru's history, culture, and politics.

We took a trip to Thailand (Phuket, Chiang Mai and Bangkok) with our 10 and 4 year olds. Each day, they said "It was the best day ever!" Stephanie helped us plan our trip and worked through all the details for us. Throughout the planning process, Stephanie was responsive, accommodating and just wonderful to work with. Our guides at each of the destinations were equally wonderful...they were knowledgeable, communicative and they certainly enhanced our experience. Besides showing up, we didn't have to worry about anything at all because we knew we were in good hands.

I researched and interviewed over a dozen tour companies to assist with our trip to Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet. I selected Yampu. I chose well.

Our guides were great, I’d say our guide for Thailand, we only met once in the way from the airport, she was nice but slept the entire drive which we thought was not appropriate. We loved all the places we went and stayed. We did feel that for the price we should have had nicer hotel accommodations. Not the hotel itself but the room we were booked. The itinerary does note standard but prices in Thailand and Bali are extremely low so we would have expected some upgrades at least. We loved our trip, loved the country, not many issues with flight air etc.

We have been on two trips using Yampu: to the backroads of Southern Mexico and to Jordan. We felt safe but adventurous on each, seeing what we wanted to see, not places on someone else's agenda. The hotels were always fine and the transportation and guides excellent. The Yampu people jumped into to help in a minor crisis (flight cancelled) leaving nothing to chance.

I have done two extensive trips organized by Yampu Tours. These trips have covered 11 countries - 7 in Africa and 4 in Asia. Without a doubt Yampu has done an excellent job planning for us to see what we wanted and get among the countries comfortably. They are immediately responsive to every question. The itinerary that is sent is complete with details about each hotel, tent, airline and important highlights about each country. The contracted tour agencies in each country also live up to the standard set by Yampu and if you have even a slight problem and contact Yampu, it is taken care of before you even leave that country. We have traveled to 71 countries and used various travel agents. Hands down, Yampu has been the best.

Yampu tours created the most amazing experience in Ecuador for us! I travelled with my sister and my dad and the trip was enjoyable for all of us with varying interests. We fmhad amazing guides for every leg of the trip and everything was flawlessly coordinated including the (many) boats we took throughout the Galapagos. Most importantly, we felt safe and well-cared for. Cannot recommend this company enough!

Had the best experience in Singapore, Borneo, Kuala Lumpur and Bali! They arranged everything under the sun! One of the best travel arrangements around!!!! Absolutely WILL use them again!

Great trip to Kenya, Tanzania, and Madagascar. Third trip with Yampu and still very satisfied. Just beware the roads of Madagascar and the dusty roads of the parks of Kenya and Tanzania!

We had an outstanding trip in Peru! Our driver Mario was safe and efficient, and he was always there for us! Our tour guide Dante was articulate, he was very informative, and he also was always there for us. We felt welcome, supported, guided to many different places with everything taken care of for us, and every question answered. Someone was always there to escort us, and make us feel special. The tour to Machu Picchu was excellent, as was our trip through the Sacred Valley! Our tour agent Maggie thought of every detail and we will forever keep her in our thoughts!

Travel to FINLAND with YAMPU

If you know that the capital of Finland is Helsinki but can’t quite place it on the map, or if you’ve heard that Santa Claus comes from Lapland but don’t know that Lapland is in the northern part of Finland; or if you want to hike with an expert guide in the spectacular Pyah-Luosto National Park,(where you actually do see Russia from Finland’s backyard), use Yampu to arrange the trip. My son and I recommend Yampu enthusiastically! They "tailor made" our Finland trip this past July. There were a lot of phone calls and double-checking and e-mailing before it was finalized.. Every hotel, from the Helsinki’s Presendentii (in the heart of the city) to the Kalevala Lodge on the lake outside Kuhmo , was excellent.

Yampu's staff is savvy and well traveled does their homework. Even our drivers were knowledgeable and easy to get along with.

For example, because they knew we wanted top see wildlife, they arranged for us to spend a night in a bear blind on the Soviet border to see brown bears, wolverines and wolves in their natural habitat.

I read that “In Finland there is freedom to roam.” Finland’s wilderness is pristine, but the culture is interesting also We read up on the Winter War (Nov 1939) when the Finns, outnumbered 10-1, repelled the Russian army. A nice touch--our hotel Kalevala was a short walk to Winter War Museum.

Finns love the sauna--it's their invention. In a country of 5 million people, there are 3 million of them . Every hotel has one and it’s a must-do. The Finns have many sayings about the sauna, like:
"The sauna is a poor man's pharmacy." "A house without a sauna is not a home." Maybe the sauna is not as exciting as a bear blind but it is "educational." Most Finns you meet in a sauna speak English and tell great stories.

And you have to have their coffee--it’s better than any we ever in South America. --A lot of surprises, but all good ones.Two Thumbs up for Yampu on this trip.

Excellent! They staff is completely dedicated to make sure your trip is exactly what you want. Our plans changed several times unexpectedly and the staff was understanding and supportive. Additionally, they think of every detail and KNOW things that a traveler would probably not consider. Their recommendations were spot on and the local guides that traveled with us were wonderful!
