$1,700 Delivery, Damaged Vehicle, and a One-Day Delay No Accountability from ACV Auctions
I recently purchased a vehicle out of state and the dealership hired ACV Auctions to have it shipped. ACV Auctions and had it delivered using a third-party carrier they arranged. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from both a service and accountability standpoint.
First, the truck arrived damaged. Despite providing documentation, there was little willingness to take meaningful responsibility or make the situation right. ACV Auctions WOULD NOT cover the cost of all the damage, even with photographic proof. What made the situation worse was the handling of the delivery itself. The vehicle was delivered a full day later than the confirmed delivery date, which caused me approximately $1,000 in direct financial loss. I paid $1,700 for delivery with the expectation of reliable scheduling and professional communication. Instead, there was no proactive notification of the delay and no updates that would have allowed me to adjust my plans. If I had not reached out to ACV Auctions I would not have known the delivery was delayed.
When issues arise, communication and resolution matter. In this case, neither met reasonable expectations, especially given the premium cost of the service. The minimal compensation offered did not reflect the financial impact or the overall service failure.
I value straightforward business practices and understand that third-party logistics can be complex. However, when a company arranges delivery, accountability should not be shifted away from the customer.
I hope ACV improves its communication, carrier oversight, and customer resolution process going forward.
