Absolutely worst "bank" to work with
Absolutely worst "bank" to work with at all.
They charge you a CPI fee, then when you show that they were incorrect to charge you in the first place, they decided they should keep the $3k+ towards their principal. Not back in the customers pockets they stole it from.
Called four times to rectify that situation and they hung up twice to avoid this. What a joke. Go any where before going to this so called "bank".
I even tried to get a supervisor involved. Spoke to a so called "supervisor" named Janelle. She was the rudest supervisor I have ever had the displeasure to talk to. RUN from this "bank".
this is the worst bank EVER
this is the worst bank EVER! EVER! they received a check two weeks ago to deposit into my account and NEVER did it. NOT only that but they took money out of my account without permission!!! DO NOT get a loan here! EVER.
We have been paying on a camper they…
I strongly warn anyone considering America First Credit Union to find a different financial institution. If you already have loans or accounts with them, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.
America First took our camper in July 2025 when we were only about 30 days behind on the loan. Before they took it, my husband repeatedly tried to communicate with them. He called WEEKLY, left messages, explained that he was working in an area where he often didn't have cell reception, gave them times when he could be reached, and repeatedly tried to let them know that the money was coming.
They would not communicate with him.
They would occasionally call while he was working. Every time he called they were hostile and rude. He would return the call, leave another message, explain the situation again, and ask them to call when he was available. This happened over and over.
Then they took our camper.
On the day they took it, my husband told them, "I have the money. I've been trying to tell you that, but you guys refuse to answer your phone."
Their response to him was essentially, "I don't care. We can do what we want." They told him that unless he could pay the ENTIRE loan balance that day, we were not getting our camper back.
That was after we had spent weeks trying to communicate with them.
It is now September 2026, more than a YEAR after they took the camper, and they are STILL taking money from us related to that loan.
I have worked in a loan servicing department, which makes this experience even more disturbing to me. We would NEVER have been allowed to treat customers the way my husband and I have been treated. The lack of communication, the threats, the way this account has been handled, and the continued financial impact on us have raised extremely serious concerns.
And yes, I believe some of what we have experienced raises serious legal and regulatory questions. I am not going to pretend otherwise just to make this review sound nicer.
Their representatives have been rude, unprofessional, dismissive, and unwilling to communicate when we were actively trying to resolve the situation.
This is people's MONEY. These are people's homes, vehicles, campers, credit, and financial lives. A financial institution should not be able to refuse communication when a customer is actively trying to make arrangements and then turn around and punish that customer for the situation they were trying to resolve.
This is, without question, the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with.
Please protect yourself. Keep records of every payment. Save every letter. Screenshot everything. Keep your call logs and voicemails. Document the names of everyone you speak with.
And based on what my husband and I have personally experienced with America First Credit Union, I would NEVER recommend banking with them. If you hear that name run as fast as you can. They will rip you off.
Really bad quality of explanations and…
Really bad quality of explanations and communication. Everything you attempt to do seems to have some almost secret way of doing it, and it involves a lot of trial and error and wasted time just to figure out how things actually work.
I first had this happen with ACH payments. I switched to AFCU and set up my routing and account number with a bill I had to pay. The payments didn’t go through for two months, and that company ended up closing my 13-year-old account because of it. Apparently, I had to not only let the other company know it was a checking account rather than a savings account, since AFCU uses the same account number for both, but there was also a separate four-digit code I had to put in front of the account number for ACH payments to actually pull correctly. I had no idea this was required.
Another issue is that I also run a business and made a wire transfer online. I thought it had gone through, but the following month I realized it never went through at all, which caused me to be an entire month late on our business lease payment. Apparently, you have to sign a special document before they allow you to process wire transfers online through mobile banking. I don’t understand why I was even allowed to attempt and submit one in the first place if I wasn’t actually authorized to do it.
Then, months later, they updated their mobile banking system and I suddenly couldn’t make wire transfers again. I had to call, re-sign the document, and then I was finally able to do it again.
Now, since that same update, I can’t link my business account to QuickBooks, and I’m being told I basically just have to wait for AFCU to fix it.
Oh, and I had never had fraud on my account before, but just two weeks ago I had two fraudulent transactions of around $200 each go through.
At this point, I honestly feel like I’m an employee trying to troubleshoot and solve my own issues with the bank instead of a customer using their services. Every time something goes wrong, I’m the one having to make calls, figure out what hidden step I missed, find out what form or code is required, and piece together how their system works.
It shouldn’t be this difficult to do basic banking. I’ve spent way too much time trying to solve problems that I don’t feel should have been mine to figure out in the first place.
Where to start?
Where to start? Branches, Branch Managers, Loan Officers, even Tellers are next to impossible to reach with their automated phone system. How about adding, “If you have the extension of the person you would like to speak with, please enter it now.”? These people seem to be reluctant to provide a business card with an email address. They never offer it. I've been trying to set up a business account with them and have had to jump through hoop after hoop and return to the branch three different times. Oh yes, the branch I've been attempting to do business with has flies -- it's in the Dan's Supermarket in Foothill Village.
Very satisfied with this financial… less than satisfactory
Very satisfied with this financial institution, I meant to get a check transferred over to another institution before my Social Security was deposited.
I take out my Visa payment on the same day every month and they have it marked as it wasn’t paid more than once this year very frustrating.
I’m going to change financial institution. Matter of fact I’m going to move out the state of Utah very disappointed and how they run things here.
Customer service is Little None. I’ve never missed a payment.
Truly one of the worst credit…
Truly one of the worst credit unions/banks I have ever worked with. They absolutely cripple my business when it comes to paying contractors, international work, etc. I’m now stuck trying to move all of my family’s accounts somewhere else. What a nightmare.
horrible system
The app and external transfer system are extremely unreliable. My previously verified external bank account disappeared after an app update, forcing me to verify it again. Then, when I tried to transfer money to another account I own, my External Transfers access was suspended because the bank could not validate my identity. I have spent hours calling customer service and waiting for assistance. I opened this account for the promotional offer, but the experience has been incredibly frustrating and not worth the hassle.

One of the rep is amazing (Jennifer) from UT so if you need to get her help, please connect with her. There was a serious charge from my account that I explained to her what happened and it seem like a quick turn around for resolution. I'm still not believing what just happened and w/o her, you wouldn't get things done. Kudos!!
Most incompetent and disorganized institution ever!
This is by far the worst and most incompetent bank/credit union that I have ever dealt with. They over complicate everything and don't even fill in paperwork correctly. They overcomplicate simple requests and require excessive proof of identity even after verifying all information they ask and even being logged into my account! Just a few issues I experienced, I called to request proof that my accounts were paid off and at a zero balance. I gave the representative all requested information including answering several prompted security questions regarding my credit/identity. The representative then stated the documents would be uploaded to my document section on my online portal with could be accessed via email and password. But then she requested additional verification before I could send that. I was required to take photos of my driver license and a selfie photo of my face to match. All this to just receive a letter for an account I already verified! Another issue I had when trying to pay off the loan, a representative in the loan department sent me a prefilled document for me to sign and have notarized. I spent upwards of $100 between the notary and the overnight. I sent copies via email to the loan person and waited several hours before overnighting it. About 15 minutes after the document was taken to the postal service, the loan representative called me and claimed that I left a spot blank. I reminded her that SHE was, in fact, the person that prefilled in the document in and told me to not fill in anything other than my signature and notary section (to be done by the notary). Another issue was that a payment needed to be made by an individual during the transfer of title. The representative told this person that I needed to call in and answer verifying questions first and then, once confirmed, I was to conference in the individual making the payment in order to process the payment. So this is what I did. Once the other individual was on the line, the representative told me that the other individual needed to call in, answer verifying information and then conference me in. They told us both that the other person needed to initiate. They truly seem like they have no idea what they are doing most of the time. The left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. This is just 3 of the several issues I had in a very short time of dealing with America First Credit Union. The individual who had the transfer of title is absolutely baffled at how incompetent this bank is. Not only will I never do business with this credit union again, the person we were dealing with also will be transferring their loan out immediately to a more competent institution. Do not use this credit union!
Janette help me start a Zelle account
Janette help me start a Zelle account. I was making mistakes. She helped me correct them. I sent the payment to the person I needed to. I thank Janette for her professional customer service. I am hoping she is recognized by America First Credit Union for her dedication to serving the customers and her fortitude to create solutions. 07/06/2026
Absolutely horrible credit union
Absolutely horrible credit union. I have been with AFCU for 10+ years and they are the most difficult bank to deal with. I applied for vehicle refinancing when I was fresh out of a Chapter 7 and had a FICO score of 620. They gave me a conditional approval but my income was too low. Fast forward to today (8 months later), my income has risen significantly and my FICO is now at 681, but they tell me "you're still recovering from bankruptcy". I asked why they were willing to approve when I literally just got my discharge, but now a year later when I have established credit again, they say no. I think it's time to take all my accounts to a different credit union.
Attempted to open an account....
Attempted to open an account. I was denied by the Tenaya branch because I could not give them an emergency contact number. Not everyone has trustworthy friends or family members. Duh. Ridiculous. I can see if my doctor's office needs an emergency contact number....but why does America First CU need one? NO credit union or bank has EVER asked me for such unnecessary information! Their loss not mine!
ooof what a stinker!
ooof what a stinker!
AI and interactive voice mail building walls between you and AFCU, long waits if and when you make it past the screens and filters.
I'm a brand new customer and i don't even know why I'm still trying.
Poor business practice
Very difficult to process anything with the automated teller. When I did talk to a real person, they were nice, however. Long wait times and too many verification factors are frustrating. All I wanted to do is make a principal only payment. Apparently, they don't want you to do that. They claim the payment will pay the regular loan for 3 months and the balance will go to principal. That is B.S.!!! After buying 3 vehicles and a house in the last 15 years, I've always been able to make principal payments on loans to save on interest. And all of them paid off early! Just a piss poor way of doing business on their part.
if i could give ZERO stars i would
if i could give ZERO stars i would. Terrible experience after 18 years of business with them.
Already having 5 basic business accounts, we opened another. Explained we would be connecting to QuickBooks and having a high volume of deposits come in, as we were in a merger and acquiring about 21 existing clients. America first has by far been the worst experience we have ever had. Quickbooks is suspeneded and they are of no help. Its been 2 weeks , every day, phone calls for hours with multiple team members and no resolution or answer and they don't allow us to speak to IT.
America First is rejecting the deposits coming from QuickBooks; they have accepted 5 out of the 24 deposits to come through. Stating we have the incorrect account number... however, the others came through just fine. We even made sure to have our deposits below 10K to help. QuickBooks is suspended, America first states it takes 45 days for a special request after we asked for a letter that the account is not negative and in good standing.....a simple letter... 45 days. No IT available, no answers, no help and instead insulting questions "Are you sure you have the 12 digit account number correct?" "Can you refresh your page?" ..... like WHAT on earth are we talking about people? Having asked to speak to managers and being on hold for hours, call backs not happening.... we are going on 2 weeks of dealing with this terrible experience and over 165K that cannot be deposited into our account .... our QuickBooks frozen so we also can no longer accept payments... being charged for every rejected transaction.... and ZERO accountability or even effort from AF....
This so called credit union
This so called credit union.
A joke license by the government to ....
Part of dealing w lousy car dealer. The financial was being discussed and wow the young lady told me I could get a better deal 9n the loan. Cost to borrow from 24% to 5 easy.
Now after 2 months and trying to make it my place for banking
First deposit went thru zella and was successful.
Set up the deposit for my social security and didn't think much but
No atm local and closest branch Henderson NV.
Anyway. The normal deposit on the 3rd wasn't posted. Then the real employee and their lousy customers service started.
The bad customer service showed them in a different light.
Complaints about those in Nevada was staggering. Bounced paychecks are something this place is famous for.
Beware bad management, supervisor and
Good for personal bad for business
Good for personal, horrible for business banking. The amount of times they’ve hindered me in business has caused me to switch after years. Customer service has declined immensely as well. Their online banking is consistently inaccurate and delayed.
Listen to people when they tell you…
Listen to people when they tell you they’re the worst now, they’re not lying.
Some of their customer service employees need to have their calls checked and be fired for their behavior as well.
The worst credit union - do not use!
The worst credit union I’ve ever worked with! Be prepared to be on hold for 45min+ any day - and their phone system is AI based so you can’t get through.
I bought my car from my mom last year. For the last 5 months, I’ve been trying to get title documents to be able to take to the DMV to get the car in my name at the state level. America First employee (Ben) called me 2 weeks ago stating he was sending the paperwork to a court house and I would need to go there to pick it up. I then went to pick it up, and the court house stated they didn’t have anything. I checked the tracking link of the shipment and it looked like it was actually sent to the DMV. In the process of waiting at the DMV for 2hrs, I called the title department and spoke with a Heather who was completely rude. She argued with me for 10min stating the tracking link stated it was delivered to the Court House - not the DMV even though I was sitting in front of the woman at the DMV saying that they didn’t know where the documents were shipped. I finally hung up on Heather as she continued to talk over me and offered no help. I work in customer service, and it was probably one of the worst examples of customer service I’ve ever encountered. Finally, the DMV lady (after two hours) tracked down that the paperwork was in fact sent to them and not the court house. To make it even better - the DMV lady also confirmed the credit union didn’t list the sales purchase price on the back of the title so now they have to get that resolved.
All in all, DO not work with this credit company. It’s not worth your energy!
