Usually, I can use the app when I need to know anything about my policy and I get an instant response from the chat function. On this occasion I needed to speak to someone in person about a complicated change of vehicle. I downloaded the app and was genuinely looking forward to try a usage based car insurance app (UBI) as my renewal is coming up in 4 weeks time. The app downloaded okay, but it failed to provide my email link. I looked in the spam folder, not there and tried it 3X. You are not gonna believe this, but By Miles is my fourth attempt in trying to get an UBI quote!!! Now, I am extremely suspicious of these 11K reviews with hardly any other scores? I have taken a photo, so I can provide Trust pilot with evidence that I tried it.

To clarify, our app is available to existing members, allowing them to view their policy, track journeys, and make changes as needed. Login details are created once a quote is purchased, so only policyholders are able to access the app.
Unfortunately, we are no longer offering quotes for new customers, so we are unable to provide you with a policy at this time. I understand this may be disappointing.

It’s my 3rd year with Bymiles car insurance, & can honestly say, what a great company! Everything is explained so clearly, & great, competitive prices each year. One little thing I will add, is to always go over the miles you pay, this way there will be no shortfall, & they’ll refund any miles you don’t use, at the end of your contract…

Loving the experience so far. Get a notification after every journey informing me of the mileage used. Do very limited driving so this is the perfect insurance for me. Cannot recommend highly enough

Sadly we can't go on
Unfortunately, they are unable to offer policies for next year, due to restructuring, and it's such a shame, as I thought this was a great way to offer insurance to low-mileage customers. They sent you information on every journey you made, and I thought this was terrific. You always knew where you were and I'll miss having that amount of information.

By Miles car insurance was a great option for me. It’s a pay-by-the-mile policy with a simple monthly payment, which was really convenient. When I sold my car, the cancellation process was quick and easy, with no hassle at all. Everything was straightforward, and it was nice to have an insurance setup that felt flexible and fair.
I’ve always liked having a car available, even if I’m not driving every day. If you mainly drive occasionally—like just on weekends—this type of insurance makes a lot of sense. You only pay for the miles you actually use, so it doesn’t feel like wasted money. If you don’t need to be on the road daily, By Miles is definitely the right kind of car insurance to have.

Pity this is being scrapped
When I saw this online I thought it a great idea your insurance cost is based on how many miles you drive. I saved a good amount on my yearly premium and get a view on how far I drive. The tracker ability also gives a sense of security should my car be stolen. I honestly don't know why this is finishing this year it is THE ideal policy for low mileage drivers.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm really sorry to hear you've had a bad experience while with us.
In terms of the Miles Tracker, the way in which it operates is that it will periodically use your car's battery when the engine is off to ensure it's still connected to our network. That said, it uses so little power that it'd take several months to drain an average car battery.
Our Miles Tracker mainly uses the socket for the small amount of power it needs and reads engine codes, but it won't change anything on the car. The sort of functions it performs are standard and won't affect your car's electronics.
We typically need to charge a cancellation fee to cover the cost of setting up your policy, setting up your Miles Tracker, posting it out to you, and then arranging for its return. We do try to be as transparent as possible when you purchase the policy, which is why the cancellation fee is detailed on your quote page, in your policy schedule and documents and in our FAQs.
