Made a booking the night before through the app. They accepted the booking and took the money. The taxi then didn’t show up. When I called they made it clear that bookings don’t really matter, I had a train to catch and let other taxis go past. Ridiculous that when you book a taxi with them it’s only a maybe. They’d probably have kept the money if I’d just took another taxi. Scam company. Used to think black cabs were more reliable than uber but I’ve actually never been let down by an uber. Maybe the concept of black cabs is outdated now if they’re just less reliable Ubers now.

The last few times I have used Central Cars the drivers have been fantastic- we have had quite a few hospital visits recently and the drivers have been brilliant- patient, polite and very understanding.
However, not all drivers are as good- one refused a fare because we were not travelling far enough- only 2 miles!

Second time in a row the taxi simply has not shown up having cancelled without calling or texting to tell me. Also, I have to say the app is also quite useless. Uninstalled and will not be trying for a third time.

Whats the point of booking in advance for a specific time if you are going to ignore that time.

I booked in advance during a busy time to ensure I got a taxi on time. That time comes and i have no car allocated. I called and the operater says that because its a busy time its going to be another 10-15 minutes and that if i had called and booked i would have been told that it would have been a 30 minute window but the app and online doesnt give you that info.

Whats the point of booking in advance then? If someone has booked for a specific time and its during a busy time, you make sure you leave a bigger window before hand to arrive there on time. Not treat them like they've JUST booked and you're now having to arrange the travek through the rush.

School rush and work rush happens twice a day every day. As a driving company I would have thought they'd know that by now and know how to work with it. My taxi was prebooked for 8am and at 8:22 i am STILL sitting here with no taxi even allocated to me yet. I am now going to be late for work, for a place I OPEN for.

We had a lovely lady driver back from Chesterfield Royal Hospital on the 12th May 2026. Ruth was a lovely lady and made both myself and partner at ease after a day at accident and emergency. Would definitely recommend Ruth as an excellent driver with a pleasant personality....thank you Ruth.

The driver was good but they really need to make the app more accurate. It advised a 6 minute wait but the driver arrived in 20. I then missed my train and it was a 30 min wait for the next one so asked that he take me directly into the city centre but he couldn’t as had a school contract shortly. He called them and they advised a 15 minute wait to send a taxi that could take me there. I ended up being late for an important meeting. If the app had been more accurate it would have been fine as I then would have ordered earlier. It needs to be reliable otherwise it is useless.

Each time I call it’s “soon as we can”, 1.5 hours later I’m still waiting. I phone and ask how long and they state I’m first in the queue, again 30 mins later taxi hadn’t been dispatched so I query & im told I’m “first in the queue for that area” so as drivers have jobs closer they choose them rather than the person who phoned first. Unfair and unreliable. Giving false hope stating first in the queue when it’s not the true case.
Earlier I called and it said 20 mins, so someone accepted the job then cancelled. Not fair & poor customer service when phoning asking where the taxi is

Angry, rude and batshit crazy woman driver. Sit in back only, money upfront, overcharged, talks like you’re not worthy to even get in her car, you know who I’m talking about if you’ve been picked up by this weirdo before. Last time I use Central Cars….

This review is based on just on driver.. I use Central a lot and the drivers are great they know me and call me by my first name and the know I am ill and go out of there way to help me. Because I have lung problems. But the driver I had today was a bad egg. Rude & Arrogant. And would do nothing to help... "No Tip for him"

Paid for a package to be delivered from Margate to Ramsgate - nealry 2 hours later we finally found out that they claim there was no answer so delivered it to a completely unrelated cafe which is 2 roads away?

The cafe was closed by the time we tracked the packet

No phone call to check what to do and no hint of apology

Not to be trusted

If you are travelling alone during the Festive Season, I strongly advise you to steer clear of Central Cars. Once a trusted and reliable cab company, they have sadly become anything but dependable. My recent experience was nothing short of appalling and left me questioning both my safety and their integrity.

Failure to Deliver Basic Service
I pre-booked my taxi in good faith, only to be left standing outside in the dark and freezing cold when it failed to arrive. Not only was there no advance warning or notification that my taxi was running late, but when I called to enquire, I was fobbed off with a vague assurance it would be there in another ten minutes. That cab never materialised. I was promised a replacement, which eventually arrived, but not before I'd received a phone call from a driver who claimed he could not find me – despite the fact I was waiting outside, less than 300 yards from Central Cars’ office on the high street.

Distressing and Abusive Communication
To add insult to injury, after I finally arrived at my destination, I received a deeply unpleasant and abusive phone call from another cab driver claiming he was there to collect me. The sheer disorganisation and lack of basic communication were astonishing.

The Return Journey: More Disappointment
Sadly, the return journey was equally shambolic. I waited 45 minutes for a taxi which had been promised to arrive in just 14 minutes. The call operator offered a series of conflicting excuses – first claiming car trouble, then after three consecutive cancellations on the app, finally admitting they were simply waiting for the midnight rates to kick in. Forty-five minutes, alone, in freezing temperatures. Their disregard for passenger safety and comfort is glaring.

With the Festive Season barely begun, Central Cars have already demonstrated a shocking lack of customer care and a complete indifference to passenger safety. Do not risk being left alone and stranded in the cold. There are better, safer, and more reliable options available. Avoid Central Cars at all costs.

Taxi driver over charged me, it was £10.80 and he charged me £11. Without asking. You are hard up for 20p you have to steal from people. Disgusting. I would have given it to him if he’d asked

We was a wedding party from Sheffield so I decided to book a 8 seater minibus from hotel to take us to the wedding venue , can't fault this company both buses on time and both drivers very helpful , got call when they arrived both times will definitely use central taxis again when we come to Nottingham again ...

Yet again,awaiting driver to pick job up,eventually cancelled itself.

My boyfriend got a cab back to his hotel and the driver was very good he had excellent customer service that why I have given him 5 stars

I would avoid if I could. The dispatchers do their best and genuinely try to help.
However, on different occasions, the drivers have really caused us problems—going to the wrong place, taking unnecessarily long routes, or refusing to take us for some made-up reason, like the dispatcher spelling our name slightly wrong.
Every single one of them is extremely rude and seems to have a pre-conceived opinion of you if you're enjoying a drink.

Grab a taxi with a friend. Happy with service fair price.

I booked a taxi from the First Direct Arena, Leeds to my hotel 3 days in advance because I am not local and therefore do not know the area. I booked the taxi for 11pm as I knew the gig I‘d attended would finish before then. I received an email at 10:30pm telling me the taxi had been cancelled. There was no explanation and I was told I’d have to make “alternative travel arrangements”. I am a lone female in a city I’m unfamiliar with and because my taxi was cancelled, I had to walk the 25 minutes back to my hotel late at night. The firm also knew I was a lone traveller who didn’t live locally as when I booked the taxi online, I had to give my home postcode! Avoid this company at all costs. They now owe me £12!

Driver 246 was on time picking us up at the airport very friendly even more accommodating when I left my bag in the car prompt at bringing it back
