Before I joined the Sport Dietician…
Before I joined the Sport Dietician (TSD) Sustainable Weight Loss Programne, I had been with WW for over 10 years and had lost weight with them but invariably put it back on, as soon as I went on holiday and I felt I was on a constant see-saw with my lowest weight gradually increasing over the years. At the age of 66 I was feeling my mobility reducing and I was keen to do something different to halt the decline and ensure I have many more years of active life ahead. When TSD popped up on Facebook, I was sceptical and didn’t take the plunge immediately, however following a holiday where I felt my physical limitations I decided to pursue it further and boy am I glad I did.
I am now in week 5 and have lost nearly 3 kg and several cm from my waist in particular, however it is the change in my mindset which is most marked. I now understand what I need to do to lose weight sustainably and have a personalised meal and exercise plan to help me towards my goals. The help from my coach Rab, mindset coach Jane and Alex’s morning lives has been invaluable, together with the recommended reading.
Yes the programme is not cheap and the information you receive initially on joining is a little overwhelming, however if you are prepared to give it a bit of extra time, particularly in the first 2 or 3 weeks, you will have all you need for successful and I believe sustainable weight loss.
The main difference I have found between TSD and WW is that I now know exactly what I personally need to do, rather than having a load of general information that I can pick and choose from to do my own thing eg I knew protein was important before but not how much I actually needed to eat daily.

Professional help to achieve my goals.
Professional help to achieve my goals.
At first i was apprehensive. I’ve tried every other diet on the market- WW, slimming world, low carb, keto, Noom, the list goes on. I had got to the point where I had no clue what to eat, and I had become so obsessed with food that I felt overwhelmed choosing what to eat each day. Since 18 I have gained and lost the weight 4 times. Going from size 16 to a size 10 and back again over and over was really soul destroying. I would get to a healthy weight and feel amazing, but then take the foot off the gas and rebound.
Before I found TSD I was trying to lose weight on my own and was trying intermittent fasting which was working well for my husband. He was losing weight easily and i was static. I was ok with waiting to eat, but in the evening I was starving and would binge to feel better about not losing weight. Anything i tried to do on my own (or even with support) was never sustainable and if I hadn’t seen results in 8 weeks I would give up. This time it’s been different. I felt confident in TDS because Alex is a registered Dietitian, that professional registration means that I can feel secure in my investment, and that’s what it is, an investment in me. I’ve spend thousands of pounds in the past on diets, cars, holidays, and always had good health, i run marathons and keep fit, but my weight has always been an issue. I am willing to back myself financially to reach my targets and to have a better life. I have been working daily with my coach Eoin and he has kept me focussing on the bigger picture. He has helped me with a meal plan, but to be honest we’ve adapted the old meals I had so that it is achievable for life for me. I eat what I enjoy, i look forward to my meals and I’ve never had that before on any of the other diets, they all felt restrictive and then i would binge. I now know how to balance my week to still enjoy social occasions and odd meals off plan. But even the on plan is just my normal meals. My weight was getting me down, and although I am a confident person, it used to bug me that I should be able to lose weight, i thought i had the knowledge, but i was being to critical. Starting by being grateful for what i can do has been how i have progressed. As a perfectionist. TSD has taught me that it’s just about being a little better than yesterday, and the goal with binge eating is not to stop it but reduce, reduce, reduce. It’s gone from 3-4 times a week to twice a month now and will continue to reduce.
So far I am 4KG down and clothes are fitting better. I started in March 25 and am proving to myself that I can be consistent.
For anyone who isn’t sure I’d say listen to the free morning lives on the sustainable change Facebook page, Alex’s enthusiasm is infectious and he really cares, as do the whole team. It is an investment, but it’s the best one you’ll ever make.
It was time for me to put myself first because as a nurse, I am always prioritising others and that’s built into my nature. I realised that I need to be nourishing me and loving myself as much as I love others.
My time in TSD, which is still relatively short, has already had a massive impact on my family. Especially my daughter, who without being asked or told has been adding salad/veg to her packed lunch for school and evening meals! Her life won’t be plagued by weight worries because I’m making the change for us all.
Thanks TSD and especially Eoin

Questionable free offer
After struggling for a few years now with my weight & health since going through & coming out of menopause, I saw advert for free help around menopause weight gain& health implications for women of a certain age . I was then contacted by this person who asked me lots of questions around weight & health of myself & goals, I really thought they cared about my problems & my journey going forward, then he asked if he could schedule in a chat over the phone one to one which I was about to agree to but something at that point did not sit right with me so I started looking into the website & himself & found that it is like every other fitness & diet site play on the vulnerable desperate people who are struggling with weight & their bodies & health.its really just a scam! reel you in as a free offer then want to charge you not just hundreds of pounds actually thousands
People like this should be ashamed!!

The free resources are great
I contacted the sport dietician today in the hope I could have some help to reach my goals. Unfortunately due to multiple disabilities I’m not in a financial position to afford the monthly subscription course but Alex gave me access to courses and resources for free because he is committed to helping people reach their healthy goals.
The courses are in depth, full of a range of information and I’m looking forward to seeing how well it all works.
If you are struggling it’s worth contacting Alex tsd, I did find discussing my goals and how my daily life impacts my diet & lifestyle interesting (and supportive).

Telephone/ sales chat
I have just finished a long chat where I discussed my weight issues the whys and wherefore as to why I am where I am. It was a deep delve and I have come away enlightened and know that I need to learn to put myself first more which I will endeavour to do. The programme sounds good being holistic and with a one to one coach and I am sure it works well for most people. However I came away feeling that my self worth is low because when asked if I felt it would be for me yes I did but the cost at present for me was just not possible. The offer of a partial scholarship still made it unattainable £1800 as a pensioner and certainly do not want to start any payment plan. It would be better if they were upfront about the cost which would mean that my time and there’s would not be wasted.

More than a weight loss package
I was very dubious at first, I’d seen lots of Facebook adverts and comments and claims about weight-loss.
Now, I know this area of work - I’m a PT with my own clients - but even coaches need coaches and after I’d had a look at the free pages and reviews I decided to sign up to get a call about the 12 week programme.
The on-boarding guy was pleasant, supportive and courteous. I signed up for 12 weeks and found that this is more than just a weight loss package - it’s a personal development package.
After the 12 weeks I knew I wanted to signup for more, I was feeling a lot better about myself and the support from coaches, psychologists, trainers and physios is amazing. Yes, its not cheap but cost out all of those resources and you’d be looking at more money, a lot more money to get them all behind you.
The accountability on a weekly basis is also very useful to keep you on track. Yes there’s an app where your exercises and nutrition and other resources are but you can contact your coach when needed and the support from others in the programme is amazing.
This programme has made me feel so much better about me and has pushed me to get back to the gym to exercising well (previously I focussed on my own clients and not myself!) and eating well.

Losing weight and becoming healthier, physically and mentally with TSD.
Before I came across Alex and TSD I was at my all time heaviest and nothing I had tried was getting rid of the menopause weight gain. I was having problems with my knees and general movements but couldn't stick to regular gym visits. I have spent a lot of money on memberships to different gyms, apps and skimming clubs. I was miserable, had no self esteem and no confidence that I would ever get back to the way I was. I just couldn't stick with anything. I have 2 very young grandchildren and another on the way and want to be an active part of their lives but felt useless as I couldn't even get down on the floor with them, and if I did I couldn't get up.
In the first 4 weeks of being on the TSD programme I lost 4 kilos and am regularly joining in live workouts. I have more energy, stronger knees, more flexibility and the confidence that I will keep to my goals and am aiming for much more in the near future. I had a bit of a wobble when I was really busy the other week and I couldn't always stick to the plan. I spoke with my coach and he gave me great tips and made me feel better. The meal suggestions and excersizes are tailored to your needs and have alternatives if you cannot do them for any reason. I love their use of you do you. I got a call from the psychologist who looks into your relationship with food, activity and any other aspects of your life you are concerned about and she gave me strategies to help to put me first and address the root cause of some issues. I was then right back on track and now if I want a treat or don't stick to the plan I forgive myself and make up for it elsewhere.
Honestly, if you are thinking of joining up but still unsure, I would 100% recommend it. There is a whole team of wrap around support available to you all the time and a fabulously supportive online community (the inner circle) that are there to celebrate your wins and encourage you if you wobble.
With the prospect of 3 grandchildren under 3 by mid July, I knew I needed to do something to ensure that I could enjoy my time with them and live long enough to see them grow. I spend most of my life running around supporting others and putting everyone but me first but thanks to the motivational talks and sessions, I can see why I need to put me first. It's like they say, put your Oxygen mask on first or you will not be able to help anyone when you drop. I no longer feel bad if I have to say no to someone so that I can attend a live workout or support session. I'm loving the new me and looking forward to being an even better version of me in the future

My experience since joining The Sports…
My experience since joining The Sports Dlietician Sustainable Weight loss programme has been a mix of emotions. At first an overwhelming amount of information, but as the weeks have progressed things are slotting into place.
From diet and menu advice to training programmes and psychological advice the whole team are exceptional. Information i have given to my coach Fran has been listened to and acted on. I cannot thank him enough for his help and support and listening to my constant questions.
Th Inner Circle Facebook group is a constant source of support , ( I have experienced this first hand following an injury).
Live exercise classes with Mish are a joy and entertaining 👏.
Alex's live talks in the morning are Inspirational and set me up for the day ahead.
I am looking forward to a long and healthy life ahead thanks to TSD . I would highly recommend joining to anyone struggling to lose weight and cope with stress in general.
Thank you TSD

Sustainable weight loss
Before I started TSD my weight was increasing or static and I wasn’t happy with how I looked. As soon as I signed up, Andy was by my side to guide me with what I needed to do and when I should do it! Andy is very knowledgeable about sports related injuries and could give me advice on how to rehab this.
A quote that resonates with me ‘Better is enough!!!’ As long as I am better than I was yesterday I am doing well!! And not to be too down on myself- if I have a wobble that is ok!! I don’t need to be down about it for the next few days/ week and undo all my hard work!
I am achieving sustained weight loss - slow gradual weight loss and I can start to physically see changes!! I am getting stronger and able to lift heavier weights during my workouts.
I would say to someone who is nervous about starting just go for it!! There will always be hurdles and obstacles in the way and if you don’t do this to help
Yourself no one else will help you!!
I am putting myself first for my happiness!! I want to lead a happy and healthy life for my children and I want to be around for much longer with them! I want to be the best version of myself!

This is a sustainable weight loss programme with many added extras…
I like many struggled with menopause weight gain and although I regularly exercised and managed to stop putting on weight I wanted to lose the weight I had put on. I knew I needed some help and guidance so I asked for help and invested in myself. TSD promised 1 to 1 support and a programme which was sensible based on nutrition, resistance training, moving more, and mindset coaching. It does just that and I have lost weight, my clothes fit better, I feel fitter, healthier and stronger. I have also learnt a lot of other useful techniques including the benefits of a gratitude journal, a good morning routine to start the day and mindfulness.
At the start of the programme you do get sent huge amounts of information to digest and it does feel overwhelming but I was advised to start with small steps and build up. That’s what I did. You are provided with meal plans, exercise plans and the support of a coach. My coach Fra is supportive and gently guides me in the right direction. He is always encouraging, provides sound advice and is mindful that as someone who works full time I only have so many hours in my day and can only do so much.
There are regular videos on mindset, overcoming procrastination, building confidence and other key issues plus self help books. Mish does lovely online keep fit sessions. Alex runs a morning session Monday to Thursday for 30 minutes on a whole range of topics although I could do with him condensing it to 10 minutes as some of us have to go to work! You are encouraged to join the face book group and post on it. It is full of ladies who have made amazing transformations and who are very supportive of one another, sharing useful tips and their ups and downs. It is your choice how involved you get but I find it quite inspiring.
I feel Alex does genuinely care about helping people and he has gathered a fantastic team of professionals to help with all aspects of life including fitness coaches, nutritionist, doctors, psychologists, behavioural specialists, sleep experts, menopause expert and physiotherapist. But most of these are not available until people sign up to the Elite Platinum Plan.
It is a bit hard sell to sign up and I can understand that people feel pressurised by the phone call from Alex to sign up. I felt that myself, but sometimes you just have to put your big girl pants on and take a chance. If you don’t do something nothing will change. I did take that chance and do not regret it. However a bit more transparency and a little less hard sell tactics would have made me feel a bit more comfortable with it all. The programme works and speaks for itself.
I have learnt so much more than just how to lose weight and would recommend this to anyone who genuinely wants to change their life for the better.

Probably the best investment in you that you can make
This weight loss and improved wellbeing service is highly effective and although it is virtual it is highly structured and personalised. The support from the founder Alex Neilan is superb and he is one of the most authentic, motivational PTs I’ve seen. He clearly genuinely cares about the clients and wants them to find the process an enjoyable and rewarding experience. My coach is excellent, attentive and knowledgeable and the whole approach is based on positive psychology. Lots of new things to learn, coaching videos to watch and recommendations for books to read. A real plus point is the weight loss facebook page where clients can meet each other to offer support and to share their own experiences of weight loss. It’s a lot of work, and you need to invest time and money, but if you engage with it and follow the programme you will learn skills to help you live your best life ever. It’s not an unreasonable financial investment for the level of personal coaching and care you receive. Probably the best decision you can make for your wellbeing and self care is to engage in this programme. I really commend it.

Dogmatic, expensive and disappointing
I have no doubt that this programme may work for some, but beware there is significant pressure to enrol from first contact. You are made to feel ‘special’ they even say they don’t take everyone (hence the apparent high success rate). and as soon as you pay (which surprise surprise is less if you pay in a lump sum!!!) you are bombarded with e-mails putting pressure on you to read this, watch these videos etc and sign the agreement.
The agreement, if you read it carefully, says that you waive your right to a cooling off period because allegedly you are receiving a ‘personal service’ which is exempt from the cooling off regulations.
The only way to stand any chance of a refund is if you don’t lose weight AND have followed absolutely EVERYTHING asked of you, watched all the video’s, done the worksheets, all your training sessions, engaged with the Facebook communities…. to name a few !!!!!
The app used allows you to log your food and it works out calories etc, but the majority of the foods are US brands, so they have clearly just ‘branded’ a US app. My PT had never heard of the ZOE app, a far superior food logging app, which was surprising for someone who was apparently a nutritional expert.
There is HUGE pressure to engage in the Facebook groups and contribute and to watch Alex’s live sessions which are most days.
You are constantly bombarded with e-mail messages and have to upload all your fitness sessions onto the app, as well as complete a review sheet every week, which also encourages you to refer others.
You are also, as part of the agreement required to raise issues/concerns direct with them… which I did and am still awaiting a reply to a number of issues I raised.
I repeat this clearly works for some people, if you feel you need extreme motivation which I feel bordered on bullying.
All that said the PT assigned to me, who was based in Ireland was lovely and really tried his best to help get around some of my frustrations, but in the end I could no long stand what I felt was almost a ‘cult’ like culture from the founder Alex.
I’m not really bothered if they write some saccharine reply to this post.. They have had since the end of March to respond. I’m still receiving daily automated e-mails, 81 so far and counting, even though I asked to be removed from the list!!!
8th August - in spite of the response I received which aimed to be conciliatory, Sustainable Change attempted to get my post removed as deflamatory !!! And it was temporarily removed by Trustpilot, I have today received confirmation that Trustpilot see no issue and will be reposting this. I wonder how many others who are giving low ratings are being removed in this way? A process I feel is very underhanded and another attempt at bullying.

TSD help make Magic happen! And at my time of life, who’d have thought …..
Alex Neilan is a tremendously knowledgeable, inspirational, genuine and dedicated person both professionally and personally. I was a tad anxious whether TSD ( the sports dietician) could and would help me to find myself again after many traumatic experiences that I’d had over a long period of time. I put my faith in Alex after our first online meeting for various balanced reasons and I did my research, as it’s a lot of money to invest in myself. I cannot express just how happy I am that I became part of this incredible team.
For me, losing weight accrued through stress and menopause wasn’t my main aim. I wanted to feel vitality again. I had lost my spark, my way, accepted ‘my lot’. I wanted to be as healthy in mind, body and spirit as I could be. I wanted to inspire and actively participate with my family and grandchildren, for them to know ‘the old me’ rather than the person I had become with no ‘umph’! I wanted to learn about my body and how to care for it in the last third of my life so I could stay as independent as long as possible.
The TSD family is just that. There is a wide team of experts in their field, physiotherapist, counsellors, nutritionists, well-being coaches from many different disciplines who form a supportive and informative backbone with weekly online sessions and 1:1 if needed. Alex himself gives half hour mindset change sessions each morning with endless tips to inform and help keep you on track. Your personal coach is there to steer you through your journey, your partner, to help set your goals in your fitness programme, help you achieve your own goals, and to hold you to account when needed. Then there’s the Inner Circle of other people like yourself who give positive support and share their own experiences, thoughts, feelings and tips too, as life can be anything but plan sailing at times, so you never feel alone, you’re carried along by the example others set.
Of course, it’s not easy, only you can put the work in, only you can take out of TSD what you need to achieve. But the partnership between yourself and the TSD family keeps you on your journey to major and fundamental lifestyle and mindset changes. You’ll find yourself taking part in things you’d never have believed! Plus losing weight as a bonus. The magic does actually happen- join and find out- and that’s worth its weight in gold. Having completed my first Tough Mudder ( look it up) with TSD this month, I proudly put my medal round my neck as I dropped in to see my grandkids. Their immediate reaction was ‘Wow Grandma, you’ve won a medal, well done!’ Magic Indeed! One lighter, fitter and so much happier lady.
Thanks Alex and my amazing coach Rab, and to everyone in our TSD family.

No nonsense weight loss programme that works
I signed up as I had been trying for a long time to lose weight on my own but kept yoyoing. This programme has been great as its holistic approach works on mindset as well as nutrition and exercise. It is loaded with practical tips too, that are easy to understand and apply. They do bombard you with stuff at the beginning of the programme, which even as a confident person I found overwhelming, so must be really hard if you are struggling to start off with. Also it was sold to me on the basis that I would get 1:1 support from a whole team of specialists such as physios, but I have now been told that only happens if you go onto their elite programme. Nonetheless, I would recommend this programme. It works. And my personal coach Emma is great.

Gaining Health and Happiness
I didn’t even realise how unfit I was and was resigned to being the size I was because I had tried so many other things over the years to battle the weight which didn’t work long term. In just three months I now make healthy food choices and prioritise my exercise and self development over everything else. I have lost 15kg and my blood pressure is now in the normal range. I am a better version of myself with every day that passes, and with help from the TSD team, especially Kathryn, my coach. The recommended reading has given me a totally different perspective on just about everything! This all means everyone around me gets me at my best, especially my toddler grandson. Highly recommend the 12 week program and super delighted to have joined the 2 year Elite Platinum as I am learning so much in the zoom classes about mind and body that I never knew. So much more than just a weight loss programme …
Thesportsdietician (TSD) appeared on my Instagram feed at a time when I was coming to terms with menopausal weight gain and the reality that I was inching into the next clothing size. I started to believe I’d have to settle for wearing long-sleeved tops forever to hide my flabby arms and that decreased flexibility was just part of aging. In my mid-fifties, I felt like I was already becoming an “older lady”—and worse, an invisible one. This wasn’t okay with me, so I took the leap and clicked the link.
The initial call with Alex did feel a bit pushy—he has a way of steering the conversation toward signing up rather than first listening to what you have to say. However, it was ultimately my decision to join the program, and I can honestly say I’m so glad I did. Over the past year, I’ve learned so much—not just about losing weight sustainably, but about my body and mindset as well.
In addition to the meal plans and exercise programs provided by your personal coach, there are almost daily sessions from the TSD team of experts on various topics. These sessions cover everything from psychology and physiotherapy to mindset coaching and menopause expertise, and you can attend them live or watch them back at your leisure. Initially, it can feel completely overwhelming, and I do think there’s room for improvement in how newbies are introduced to the program. However, you quickly learn to filter what’s most relevant to you. The best part is, there’s really no excuse for struggling—because all the help and support you could possibly need is right there at your fingertips. You just have to step up and ask for it.
Not being a big social media user, it took me a while to join the private Facebook group—but how I wish I had done so sooner! You are never alone on this journey because this wonderful family of women encourages and supports one another, sharing their ups and downs. It’s been such a game-changer for me, to see and feel the camaraderie and connection with others on the same path.
I’ll admit, it’s an investment—quite an expensive one, in fact. But I made the decision to invest in myself and my future, and it’s been absolutely worth it.
My first coach moved on to a new job, and I was reassigned to David. He’s absolutely brilliant—we communicate weekly via WhatsApp, and he keeps me grounded and on track with straight talk, good humor, and heaps of encouragement.
I was introduced to resistance training, and now I understand just how vital it is—not only for weight loss but for building strength and muscle mass, and maintaining mobility as we age. I might not be as slim as I was in my twenties, but my body is ten times stronger and more flexible than it ever was before!
Beyond fitness, I’ve learned how my own thoughts and behaviors were holding me back from reaching my goals. I’ve picked up invaluable strategies for overcoming these mental hurdles—like being kinder to myself, believing in my own potential, and the power of practicing gratitude.
This program has been more than just a fitness journey; it’s been about reclaiming my health, confidence, and self-belief. I’m so grateful I took that first step.
