Packaging was enough and in a box that just fit my products, which was great to keep the shipping cost down. The whole process is easy and great customer service.

I’ve been using DeJapan for the past several years to buy Japanese merchandise, mainly anime goods but sometimes clothes or household items too. Their website is super easy to use, and if there’s any issue fulfilling your order their support team is always there to help out. Couldn’t recommend them enough!

I’ve used a number of proxy services to order items from Japan. DeJapan is head and shoulders above the rest. Their support staff are always very responsive and helpful. I’ve never been disappointed. They’re very up front about extra costs and offer many shipping options. The recent site upgrade has made shopping and ordering much more slick.

Antwort von DEJAPAN
You always had to get in touch with them for them to include the cheaper shipping options under every single package because somehow they always forgot to add them as default options. And after Japan Post got rid of e-Packet, they completely refused to add any other small package options saying they did not provide insurance/tracking. However, Registered Mail and Air Small Package, both of which are still available at Japan Post's website, definitely do. I begged them to please allow me to ship via either of those even taking responsibility if the items were lost because my package was so small, but they completely refused to. So once I had to pay ¥3500 to ship a 300 grams package via EMS I realized I would never use them again. The lack of service fee does not make up for the differences in shipping. There are other better alternatives out there who still offer small package options, and thank goodness.

REWRITE (4/4/23)
My understanding is irrelevant. The FACT is DeJapan fails to provide consumers with the relevant and accurate shipping information they need beforehand. The FACT is they wait until after their clients have purchased their goods before hitting them with offers only from the most expensive shipping services from the most expensive service providers. These FACTS alone were sufficient to make a case for misleading. These FACTS alone were sufficient to open an investigation into potential fraud. These FACTS alone were sufficient grounds to rescind the contact.
In the United States we don't rescind contracts so easily. Blaming myself, I made multiple attempts to pay. Fortunately, the transactions were rejected by their system. This gave me time to reflect. I needed more information so I could decide an appropriate course of action.
I requested information on the package sizes so I could compare their offers to other international shipping services.
Their unsolicited "explanation" of the price was just a parlor trick intended to mislead or deceive people who do not know how to interpret the numbers correctly. It's a technique called misdirection. It is just smoke-and-mirrors. They focus attention on certain information (volumetric weight), drawing attention away from the real information (shipping rates). By their logic, sea freight would be more expensive than express/courier services since the volumetric weight would be five times greater. In reality, LCL shipments from Japan to the United States likely range between $40 to $55 per cubic meter. My packages would normally have shipped port-to-port for around $20. The total door-to-door would have been around $130, an order of magnitude less than the $1100-1500 shipping they offered despite the volumetric weight being five times greater.
To aid in this deception they speak of DHL as if it was a single service with a single rate (the one they offer) rather than as a service provider offering a full range of services and rates.
They attempted to mislead or deceive me again. I called them on it. The majority of shipments from Japan are by sea for a reason. Japanese air freight is expensive. Japanese sea freight is inexpensive. It is rarely cost effective to ship by air from Japan. I explained that my parcel was just a standard LCL shipment. I couldn't justify the cost of shipping by air ($650+), much less by express/courier. That is, I saw no additional value to these services that would justify the additional cost. I requested they ship by DHL Ocean LCL rather than DHL Express. This is when they revealed they don't actually ship through DHL but through a third party.
They claimed they were contractually obligated to only offer FedEx and DHL express/courier services and not standard international shipping. For those who don't know, let me put it in simpler terms. They claimed they were contractually obligated to only provide the most expensive services from the most expensive service providers from a country where such services are already expensive in an economy where they are currently even more expensive. This is the real reason why their shipping prices are so high.
It is understandable why they choose not to inform consumers of this beforehand. Nevertheless, they do have a duty to inform. They also had an opportunity to inform me towards the beginning of the email exchange. But they chose to try to bs me.
More important is that they revealed information about their mental state.
They knowingly and willingly withhold vital shipping information from their clients until after they have purchased their goods. This allows them to hold their shipments hostage and demand above market rates for shipping. This is a form of extortion. I do not know their discount rates, but I suspect an investigation will reveal that they receive above market rates for their services as well.
There were other irregularities. But I had neither the time nor the patience to investigate them. I made my decision to rescind the contact. Rather than the usual 30-day clause to return my money, I informed them that I had asked my bank to reverse the charges and to open an investigation into fraud. I left the legal issues in my bank's capable hands. My part in the civil dispute ended when I sent that email. DeJapan did send an email after. But this was just face-saving. Even their apologies ring hollow; just more lies and deception.
Rationalization is a pillar of fraud. No fraud is a fraud in their own mind. Every fraud is fundamentally understood. I will leave it to investigators to determine whether or not a case can be made and to the courts to decide. Just be careful. It's not just DeJapan.

The quality of service I received is by far the best,
The extra packaging and sea transport options are ideal,
Not to pricy on any front, just know what you're getting into, shipping was a patient wait but nothing extreme,
Customer service was extremely helpful and friendly,

I’ve been buying via DeJapan for the last four years and not only had my experience been excellent from the start, the company places a lot of effort in continuous improvement. In other words, my experience keeps getting better!
My most recent package was extremely impressive in the care they took in packing my parcel. As an avid record collector, I am extremely particular about records being stacked on top of each other (damages records). When I got my package, it had labels to ensure the box was upright so the records inside are standing. This company is not a record company but they took the time to learn and understand how certain items should be packed. 👍
Customer service is beyond responsive and friendly. Their fees are also better than other companies.
I very highly recommend this company. I have already converted some friends who used other services in the past and they are sticking with DeJapan!

I have been using DEJAPAN regularly since 2018 to order Books/CDs/DVDs/Blurays.
Overall, I find DEJAPAN to be quite professional and reasonably priced.
Pros
Easy to make Yahoo Auction bids.
Simple to make order requests.
Order requests fulfilled quite quickly.
Payments with PayPal or Credit Card.
Combined domestic shipping, where possible.
Free item storage extended to 45 days.
Strong box and sufficient packaging, even with free packing option.
Various shipping options, where possible, including surface/seamail.
Clearly printed shipping label.
Competitive service fees.
Prompt replies to questions.
Gradually improving their website.
Cons
Sometimes Yahoo Auction bids have to be placed manually.
Some limits on number of orders and items that can be combined.
Takes a couple of orders to fully understand their system.
Japan Rabbit gets lots of good reviews, but DEJAPAN is better in my opinion.
Therefore, DEJAPAN definitely deserves 5 stars and I recommended their service.

Honestly I'm seeing lots of negative reviews but mine was, for the most part, positive. Staff were very quick to bid on my order and it arrived to the warehouse very quick. Shipping was $40~ish and I was like WOW so I asked if there was anything they could do to make it cheaper. They are always so quick to reply BTW, and the reply I got was that since my package was under 2kg they could help me and use an ePacket or something like that which reduced shipping to $18. All in all very great customer service and was accommodating towards me. I will use this again. :)

I've used dejapan for 3 years never had storage fees charged so much getting charged $600 just for just storage fees they don't inform you when your storage time run out do me a favor and don't use them. Look somewhere else

Using DEJAPAN was a mistake. Don’t use their services. I brought multiple items & shipping was $530 + $230. For proof: My Twitter is @dejapancustomer
Worst yet; my items were over the weight limit so Dejapan made me pay for 2 orders, 3 boxes. THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE SO YOU PAY MORE FOR SHIPPING, IM NOT THE 1st person they scammed. In my case it was a mixture of books+other stuff. easily packed in a bigger box. They never told me that shipping was considered separate. I then had login issues, cause of their god awful Website and my acct was suspended. I still had active orders. They didn’t refund me on a canceled order that they insist PayPal had a “hold.” money left my bank but they refunded all my other canceled items. Also, they only included EMS, AIR, surface, as shipping options which is sneaky. After I paid & wanted an estimate on other shipping options, they refused to give me an estimate. if I wanted photos I had to pay. Insurance to. Another user said they were scammed out of shipping fees & I 100% can backup their claims. They also charged me for storage fee 6,800YEN-$47 and support claimed late fees were 100Yen for all packaged, NOT EACH ONE. Look at other proxies instead, at least they list all their shipping options. They even suspended my account for fraudulent uses, when I made another account cause their website was terrible. This was w.o notice. Then made me show proof of ID. Their buying team also make it incredibly slow for me to get an item and often than not, the sales on them are gone. As of now, they stole quite. They’re literally holding my items HOSTAGE and I can’t even get my remaining items to ship out. Currently they have yet to respond to my messages. 11.02.2022. Do yourself a favor and chargeback whatever order you have.
Pros: good excellent customer service .
Cons; there is 100% fees, domestic+international+per item+other payments. 100% scamming with the shipping fees.

As someone else said, they are slow to order, in spite of that, I've been able to order without an issue, until recently.
I got an item different from described, which they charged for (not all of the websites are fee free) and when the item arrived, upon contacting them, the answer was "per company policy, we are not responsible for item condition, that is one of the risks taken when ordering secondhand items". This type of response is ridiculous, they purchase, charge 500 yen per item when it comes to mercari, plus the item combination, and aren't responsable for a thing. They don't come up with a solution, not even in points or discount, or even ship it back because they "can not contact the seller anymore". They just wash their hands and you are stuck with an item that is defective, because in their prespective "it's too bad, but that's how it is".
You will never know how good or how BAD are they, IF you haven't REALLY encounter any issue with them. They can be good when everything is smooth but if you are unlucky and something happened, you will see the other side of them under their skin.
Used to be my first choice of proxy back then. Haven't been using them since the epidemic started until recently when I start using them to purchase something from japan again and finally i have encountered some issue with some really expensive item that cost me over hundred thousand yen.
Tried to reach out for help and I am totally surprised by their attitude especially when they don't even trying to help and just try get themselve out of the trouble by kicking the ball back to you. (just like their politician, or maybe their well known culture)
They charge you for every service but when there is some issue arise, it will be of none of their business. 🙂
If you are getting some cheap item or toys or whatsoever, you still can go with them. If you are getting some expensive item, please think twice and consider some other more secure proxy thought the cost may be a bit higher but at least it give you a peace of mind. 🙂
I have use their service for very long time and now i have also learned my lesson, the hard way......
Frustrated and disappointed !
Good customer service and fast workers. Comparable prices to other proxies I've used. I've ordered from them many times and will continue to do so.
Many other services I've used in the past were slow-moving, which I don't mind so much on the consolidation and shipment side, but on the purchasing side caused me to lose out on items a few times because it took them a few days to order it. DeJapan orders them very fast, so this rarely happens to me now. When things have come up where customer service has needed to reach out to me, they've been transparent with me and it's been a positive experience.
Once you factor in consolidation and shipping, I don't think the fees are lower, but I don't think they're higher either. No matter what, international shipping is pricy, and proxy services have certain costs like running the website and paying staff. I continue to come back to DeJapan because they order so quickly that I can reliably get the items I want.
Always used Neokyo for Mercari and they were really great and easy to use. But they stopped offering mercari services so I chose Dejapan. Not the best experience, especially price-wise... They don't let you fill in the value of the parcel yourself with checking out, so be very cautious with the prices of your items to avoid sky high import taxes / VAT. You also have to pay the Mercari order fees afterwards which is just very inconvenient. After checking out with the 'second payment' they suddenly charged me 6500 yen (it was the Mercari fees but I only saw the total price now, with other services it was directly included when you placed the order, so you won't have to calculate it separately / have a big surprise...). The fee they ask for Mercari purchases is also higher than a lot of other services (500 yen). The website loads slowly and seems very unclear / not the easiest in use and a bit dated (to me, compared to other services I've used). They also took longer to order the stuff than the previous services (which is a bummer because the items you ordered a request for are sold out constantly). And they also don't provide pictures of your items for free like some services I've used. Plus points: they do have a lot of options for packaging (though most other services also have that) and they do inform you through an email about the storage period and such, and answer your questions politely and on time. They put in the weight of your packages automatically, which most other services don't.They also have multiple options for shipping and a calculator (but again, most services have that). I wouldn't say they're completely a scam (though I do feel like they confuse you so you end up paying more money). For a Japanese shopping service it just wasn't the best experience. Way more hassle-and stress-free, cheaper options out there.
DEJAPAN is really efficient, cost-effective, and the staff are nice but - they refuse to under-declare items. As a result, I was taxed heavily over some used items. Granted, it was the amount that I paid, and I understand they have the obligation to state the amount truthfully. I just wish they could be more flexible.
I lay almost all of the blame on this country I'm staying in right now. Customs will tax ANY "high-value" item that comes in regardless of whether they're SECOND-HAND, USED or broken. And the limit is so low - USD100 - that anything you buy these days could easily hit that mark due to inflation and exchange rates. Apparently after asking locals who stay here, this limit has not changed in 20 years.
I just feel that since customs are so inflexible in this regard, the proxy service could have been more accommodating in helping the customer to avoid this. Paying customs duties over brand new items or merchandise I get it, but USED ITEMS?! I do understand the liabilities involved in under-declaring items, but the losses, should anything happen, should be completely borne by the customer. Some form of terms and agreement should be established between the sender and recipient. I mean, I was able to persuade some shops in helping me to do this. DEJAPAN couldn't bend in this regard.
Nevertheless, DEJAPAN to me, has been the better proxy service I've used, and I've used many others like From Japan, BUYEE, myJapan. I will probably use their service again, but knowing that they won't under-declare items, it's better to buy items that are under the customs tax limit or ship items separately.
-(EDIT: added a star, the reason is that a while after I posted this review they edited their fees page to explain the other fees!! :) happy they did this but I wish they'd edited it sooner to save me the confusion. Realised it definitely was me not looking hard enough) The biggest thing that removed a star from my review would be that I used this for the "0 commission fees", but I was surprised at the 2nd payment when there were "other payment" fees of 2000 yen which I assume were the transaction fees. When I searched it up the only thing I saw on it was a blog saying that the fees weren't mentioned anywhere. Unless I can't find it, there's no way to find out/calculate what the amount of these fees would be
-Higher shipping cost cancels out the 0 commission fees, I usually get similar packages like this from other services and they're usually 4-5k yen to ship. For dejapan my cheapest option "other" (which was dhl) was 6900 yen, Fedex was over 10k.
-I got the free packing plan, everything was wrapped nicely in bubble wrap (I assume it was the original packaging the items came in)
-They dont tell you the size/weight of your package after its done (to be able to confirm the shipping cost of the package)
-Their website is a bit outdated, it was hard to navigate when looking at my items and when they arrived etc. They dont show you when a package arrived until you consolidate everything
Other than the fees I had a pleasant experience!!
I've purchased numerous items via them and haven't any issues. If you do have a question or concern the customer support is very friendly from my experience. The part about 0% commissions is incorrect however. They make you pay a ¥100 consolidation fee for every purchase and the shipping is overpriced.
Other than that it's a decent, legit proxy service.
A note on their website: I don't find it too old or crappy, it might look dated but it gets the job done and they do give you instructions on what option to select when requesting shipment contrary to what I've read others remark in reviews.
I got an item from Dejapan and payment was made from my credit card. They then emailed me that due to security checks, I have to make payment via paypal and they will cancel the previous transaction. To my horror, 2 deductions were made instead
