Charged for out-of-stock items and impossible to get a response

I am extremely disappointed with the service I’ve received from Asda George.

I placed an online order (Order No: 159636811) and the money was taken, with an order confirmation received. I was then informed that the main item was out of stock, yet only a partial refund was issued and the £3.95 postage was not refunded, despite the order being a complete bedroom set.

I contacted customer services immediately to cancel the entire order. Since then, I have:
• Made multiple phone calls
• Been promised manager call-backs within 24–48 hours (which never happened)
• Been given an email address by customer service that does not work
• Emailed several other addresses found online with no response
• Phoned again after emailing — still no replies and no call back

This is not the level of service I expect from a company like Asda. The lack of communication and failure to resolve a straightforward refund is unacceptable. I am still waiting for a full refund, including postage.

Very poor customer service.

I honestly wouldn't give them a 1 star I ordered and paid next day delivery and never received anything phoned customer service to be told I need to go in store but my parcel was out for delivery so waited another 5 days went in the shop on the 21st to be told they can't do anything because it was ordered on line they gave me another number to call this was now the 22nd because it kept just ringing and ringing to be told I can re order but could take up to 7 days to be delivered REALLY it was a Christmas tree talk about spoil Christmas

They don’t seem to be aware of their legal obligation to deliver an item TO someone who has ordered & paid for it online. If you will choose to use Evri & be ok with them leaving parcels outside people’s homes, then get used to issuing refunds or replacements. Absolutely shocking experience with customer services so far who keep sending me a picture of my order sat outside my door… in a communal space, where it was taken from!!! Unbelievable… I’d rather not have to do a chargeback but it doesn’t look like I’m going to get anywhere otherwise! Thanks for nothing, will never use you guys again!

Just a bit Rubbish....

Having ordered items which arrived smashed to bits, I find there is no way to contact them about this apart from Twitter or telephoning, both of which I cannot do. Absolute rubbish customer service as far as I'm concerned and won't be shopping with them again

WARNING - Customers are punished for receiving broken item even after they request and receive photo proof

I have just received £60 worth of damaged/smashed (heavy duty) storage boxes and they will not refund me until they have been returned. I can’t get them to the post office (to large/heavy) so they have arranged a collection but it means I have to be home all day.

It makes me so angry that these huge organisations would rather pay for a courier to collect smashed plastic and I have to wait 3/5 working days to get my money back. Come and collect them if you like but start the refund process now so I’m not out of pocket and at least and give me a time slot.

The call centre said all managers were in a meeting. Ironically when I called back they were all in a meeting again. I’ve worked in corporate for many years and I’ve never heard of a customer service team leader be in that many meetings.

I have put in a request for the call recordings as I’m pretty confident that lies were flowing and ironically as I “accidentally” got cut off the second person I spoke to provided different information.

It’s saddening to get this response. They have access to my file and can clearly see over the years I’ve spent thousands at Asda and have only ever returned a few items, yet they have no customer loyalty.

Absolutely livid

Absolutely livid, paid for next day delivery, for a birthday gift £5.50 only for your useless courier yodel to not deliver it, I won't be using george again and after returning item, because I now have to go and get a gift in morning, as yodel if they can be bothered to deliver item, would be until the evening anyway, and that's to late for me, I will be closing geirfe account

I ordered a toaster and kettle set

I ordered a toaster and kettle set. Collection from saltwells Netherton. Didn't receive a text to say ready for collection. On the off chance I went and was told one of the items had gone missing.
From the 23rd of December I have been asking for a 14.99 refund.
They are appalling.
I'm still waiting for this refund as of today.
It's quite simple. If I don't get refund I will be going to small claims.
I will call again today
It's like a joke shop. No wonder they are struggling and deservedly so

Asda/George Online Refunds...

I strongly advise people to register a story with 'Watchdog' if you're having the same issues as below.

It's come to light that George owe me a significant amount of money. I've tried numerous times to sort things out but nothing gets resolved. It's causing me a great deal of stress.

I had problems last year with George not refunding me correctly or at all. I put in down to a flaw in their system and all seemed to be rectified, until...

I've placed numerous orders for clothes over the past 5 ish months. Clothes for me and other family members. Recently i've noticed refund discrepancies everywhere.

I returned the clothes back via my local George shop. The problems i've noticed are - missed refunds, part refunds (for example, if i returned 7 items they've refunded me for 5 instead of 7)
They've also refunded me for incorrect items, which gave a lower refund total to what i should've got.

All their call centres are a joke. I'm guessing they've got 3 overseas call centres.
The odd adviser has been good but the rest should not be in a CS position!
They're very rude, they don't listen, they don't know what they're doing or simply can't be bothered. My experience with them has been very stressful. There's often a language barrier too.

I've given up trying to complain via their call centre, and promised call backs from a Manager never happen so,
I've been intouch with CAB. They'll forward the issue onto Trading Standards. I've also contacted Watchdog.

It seems their refund system isn't fit for purpose, including breaking their refund policy.
It makes me wonder if all's deliberate in the hope it goes unnoticed by the customer. Who knows?

They've also sent no end of orders where the items are completely missing or not the full quantity - getting a refund for this is made difficult.

If others are having the same problems, please report your issues to Watchdog and Trading Standards. It's power in numbers that will bring this to light.

A Number of Bad Experiences

I have had a number of bad experiences with George at Asda. Wrong things sent etc and having to chase up refunds four times. On this occasion I ordered a number of items for Christmas and returned a few only to find I was refunded for the items I kept not the things I returned. There was a price difference and despite chasing it up Asda still owe me money. They can keep it - I will not shop with them again. Every time you order from them you need to cross your fingers and hope for the best - no one needs that.

Cheap Courier, Clueless Customer Service – Resend With a Proper Company

There is no product to review because the order was never delivered.

The shop deliberately chose Yodel, a courier with a well-known reputation for failed deliveries, and unsurprisingly the parcel was marked as “attempted delivery” multiple times while I was at home. No knock. No buzzer. No card. Just blatant lies in the tracking system.

Customer service was just as bad. Outsourced, robotic, and completely incapable of understanding a simple address or taking responsibility for anything. I was repeatedly told the delivery would happen. It didn’t. Over and over again.

This whole experience screams cost-cutting at the customer’s expense. Saving a couple of pounds by using Yodel and outsourcing customer service results in exactly this: stress, wasted time, and no delivery.

At this point, the only acceptable resolution is to resend the order using a competent courier that actually delivers parcels instead of pretending to. Until then, I cannot recommend this shop to anyone who expects to receive what they pay for.

Diabolical service

WOW so unprofessional now - calls cut off, advisors at parties as call centresin india , very loud, very unprofessional. Took 8 calls to get through to a decent person doing their job.

Part of my order has been stolen by Yodel - Asda have just lost me as a customer! I paid extra for a decent courier - then 1 part gets split off to Yodel - just why!

George home is a joke, they are giving faulty toddler beds to charity's for people with low incomes and because the Charity's don't give you the order number you can't return it now u will never shop as ASDA ever again

Ordered on the 20/12 told to collect on 27/12 after 5 but it's still saying on the way and been like that since the 24/12 contacted them through Facebook was told to give it a few more days which I have so it's probably lost it's the 3rd time my order has been lost,now I'm going to have to ring and wait for a refund.

This year every time I've returned a George order to store following the correct process I have had to chase up my refunds. This is the 6th time now and I'm absolutely sick of it. How many people have forgotten that they weren't repaid?? Lesson well and truly learnt will be avoiding buying anything more from Asda George. Sizing so variable so never get what you expect. Keeping refunds must add nicely to their profits.

Worst customer service I have ever…

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I am still waiting for part of my order to arrive. The chat agents are extremely rude, and when I waited on the phone, they told me no managers were available. I was promised a callback, but no one ever called. I have filmed my entire experience and will be posting it online.

My first and last time!!!!

My first and last time shopping ordering something from George. Ordered for click and collect by 27/12 at 5pm. No notification that it would be late, delayed or anything. After me contacting them I was told they are a little busy so give it another couple of days. I am sure ASDA should har learned stock management and logistics by now. I would not have ordered it for the time I did if I did’t need it then. Stick with Amazon, at least they deliver mostly on time!

Absolutely disgusting

Absolutely disgusting. I placed a near £180 order. It was left outside by DPD. Contacted Asda who said they’d get back to me. They didn’t. Raised a dispute at the bank but Asda are having none of it. So I’m out of pocket, without goods, and what? That’s it then? Won’t ever use again. And I’ll continue finding how I fight this because this is incredibly unfair. I never received the goods

Every time I order from George I get…

Every time I Order from George I get Bad experience. This was my last time. I will never make another purchase with George Asda again.

My ribbed top came with a tear and was sticking out of the parcel package when handing over to me by the EVRI courier, they shouldn't put Hangers in.

Also every parcel bag comes scrunched up wrinkled and is large oversized plastic bag with only 3 small tops inside. Such a horrible material
There is always a tear where somebody has peeked inside.

Never ordering again. Even Matalan is better.

Damaged goods and minimal refund

Ordered two dinner sets for Christmas and both sets were damaged. One set chipped and one set having 4 items broken. Upon contacting ASDA I was offered a refund of 15% for ONE set (when BOTH were damaged) and a £4 voucher (Needless to say I won't be using this voucher with the care they took with my packages..). When saying this was unfair I was told that this was sufficient (£2.70 refund and a £4 voucher I have to spend with them for a quarter of my dinner set broken). I am disappointed to say the least and think the service is terrible to be honest. I had said I was happy to accept a partial refund just a fair one which I have not received.. won't be using ASDA again and will be telling others not to.
