Their 'time away' setting caused me problems

I was going on a long holiday, so I wanted to deactivate my listings while I was away, so I set the 'time away' setting.

I thought this would disable my listings but it doesn't, it leaves them listed with a small message to buyers that the seller is away.

As soon as I had gone on holiday, one of my items sold. I was not able to deliver the item, so I messaged the buyer, who was understanding at first.

Due to the Covid situation, my long holiday turned into a very long holiday and the buyer got more frustrated, as she had paid. I offered to return the payment but she said she could wait.

I ended up frustrating a buyer, which is not something I would normally do and the reason was because Ebay do not deactivate the listings when sellers are away. They should at least have a setting to allow all listings to be deactivated when the seller is away

Ebay is ceasing use of PayPal

Ebay is ceasing use of PayPal.
This is due to happen at the end of April. I expect many people will be dismayed at this. They require your bank details to pay direct into your bank account. Ebay are increasing their fees of a % of the sale to incorporate what would normally be paid to Paypal and they are also adding an additional transaction fee for every item sold. So it will cost sellers more than the previous arrangement using paypal. I would suggest sellers look for alternatives to ebay for selling their goods.

Ordered an item on eBay it said UK…

Ordered an item on eBay it said UK seller and would arrive by 9th march 2021by yodel but tracking said arrived at hayes depot still not arrived now the 11th clearly this is coming from China,eBay need to start policing their site a bit more responsibly and stop this practice by foreign dealers,I will be using eBay a little less often unless they get their act together, it's getting more and more difficult to find decent dealers on the site now and knowing which ones to trust.

eBay has become a greedy company

eBay has become a greedy company. With the new payment account you have to wait 2 days for your money with the same fees as using PayPal. You have to pay for postage up front. They probably don’t pay tax in the U.K.
Avoid. Yet another greedy company.
Go over to Ebid.

EBAY ACTIVELY SUPPORTS THE SCAMMING OF SELLERS

UTTER MORONS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Had a problem buyer - SCUNNYTERRY - he received a well wrapped item, decided about 24 hours AFTER delivery that it was damaged, so made a claim. He initially said there was no sign of damage to the outer packaging on receipt - then a few weeks later they decided the packaging WAS damaged.

All along, Ebay told us that it would be sorted and we'd be given all the help we needed with the buyer - as we are convinced that all the damage happened after delivery...purely so they could send it back. Ebay agreed with this...
THEN Ebay refunds the buyers money AND makes us pay to receive the item back - now with even more damage on it than the supplied photos!!
We then had a different customer service assistant "help us", Irish accented Eileen - she must live in a bubble as she'd never heard of such a thing...(people deliberately damaging items to get a refund)
Eileen told us she'd sort it all out and would phone us back on Tuesday...
A few weeks have passed - we are still out of pocket - and NOBODY from Ebay gives a flying DUCK about sellers being ripped off.
AS A SELLER, YOU HAVE ZERO SUPPORT FROM EBAY - SO WE NOW SELL ON FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE, ETSY, ETC. -

I JOINED EBAY WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED OUT SOME YEARS AGO, 1996 OR SO, THE SITE USED TO BE REALLY GOOD - AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED NOW, EBAYUK CAN FOAD

Massive scam!!

My husband ordered "Molton Brown"eucalyptus shower gel ×2 from "sigmaadvantage"on ebayuk.He has used this type before over several years.Purchases previously have been from reputable companies i.e.John Lewis etc.However this particular product from aforementioned note no resemblance to the genuine product whatsoever!! To cut a long story a bit shorter,he contacted seller----no response ---then eBay expecting a positive outcome.He was told to send items back get proof of posting,wait 10 days then copy/send said proof and refund would follow.After waiting some time approx10 days ----nothing!!!He subsequently contacted eBay,Their response was" he had failed to provide proof of posting therefore the case is closed" He is £30+ out of pocket but they don't care! Completely dishonest company.Did to his experience I have closed my account with them Would advise anyone to avoid like the plague!!!

Customer service absolutely atrocious

Customer service absolutely atrocious, they are a disgrace, they lie, mislead, never get back to you, give you false hope, one person will tell you one and another will tell you something completely different. No way of complaining except write a letter to a PO box in Ireland! always telling you to wait a period of time then another period of time, then another!! one of them will tell you your problem is sorted yet nothing ever gets sorted! under this new payment scheme where they pay it directly to your bank and not via paypal its all got worse! they have received payment from a sale and I have still not received the money from ebay, none of the customer service team help, they have just gave false hope, lied and contradicted each other, they always say they will escalate it as well, probably laughing behind your back. Even when you request a supervisor contact you they never do. It's a real sad state of affairs. I have a case that's be on going for over a month now and I still have not received my money and its not the buyer that is at fault it is the payments department!!

Ordered 5 items with different company's on eBay, total shambles, either they never arrived or they were damaged or really poor quality for price one seller was even really rude when I requested a refund,ebay couldnt care less when you contact them,i did feedback for one seller saying i was not happy and when feedback was printed it said i was totally pleased with the product,rest assured iam never, never ever going too buy on ebay again.and I suggest everyone steer clear it's a totally frustrating experience ,you will be tearing your hair out.

Just got scammed on eBay

Just got scammed on eBay and totally blame eBay for facilitating it.

Guy has item to sell. I win bid and pay via PayPal.
PayPal is pending for days and just stuck. Turns out seller hasn’t claimed it. Then he tells me he doesn’t know how to sort it. Stuck in limbo. We agree alternative payment, a bank transfer.

I cancel PayPal payment and get a confirmation he has received payment via text message. Told parcel sent. Wait ages. Then I just keep getting ‘ it’s in the post’ over and over when I chase. Item never arrives.

Here’s why I blame eBay.

Because eBay are so geared around PayPal. I can’t mark payment as sent and the seller refuses to mark it as paid. All the facilities for eBay e.g. dispute resolution are set around a transaction. Because buyer doesn’t mark item as paid none of these facilities are open to me as a buyer. eBay sees it as a non transaction. I can’t use the bulk of any automated services to flag this seller to them and can’t warn other buyers.

The 2 main assurance indicators you have as a buyer are provided by eBay, namely feedback and they take PayPal.
I accept that I lose the protections by not using PayPal but I tried and couldn’t. I feel I should still be able to raise this as a fraud with eBay particularly as I have proof of payment. I’m a cautious ebayer and checked the feedback 230 plus feedbacks at 100 percent.

I think ebay should provide a method for flagging a bad seller. They should give a 2 level feedback namely their separate buying and selling feedback scores. It turns out on much closer inspection that my sellers feedback was all for items bought.

They should indicate if PayPal is fully verified and active not just have a reassuring logo that actually means nothing when it comes to a transaction.

It used to be great but with ebays hands off approach to just about everything it’s a platform for substandard merchandise and scammers now.

Dreadful!

My teenage son decided to sell his gaming pc and monitor on Ebay. Ebay use UPS as their delivery company of choice. We packaged both items so well in multiple layers of protective material and added FRAGILE signs on all sides. BOTH ITEMS GOT DAMAGED the buyers are saying. My son lost all of his money. Either UPS is throwing the packages around without any care. Or buyers are not genuine. Either way the Ebay customer service is awful as it favours the buyer. It didn't help my son despite him asking. Dreadful!

I have used Ebay/Paypal more than decade

I have used Ebay/Paypal or cash on collection,for more than decade alternatives ineffective, Gumtree the the best of them. My experience of customer services is Paypal much better. The change to drop Paypal does not look promising. The charges are off putting, I mostly sell vintage clocks, and pay tax on my profits :-). Swedish Ebay owned Tradera very similar. Doing this in retirement to keep occupied Ebay make more than I do!

Don't trust!

I bought an item from eBay on the 28th of January 2021 and I still didn't receive it. The seller has sent it to me in a couple of days, but UPS didn't deliver it. I also had to pay 58 Pounds customer clearance fee for the item which they didn't deliver.
After writing lots of emails to the seller about the issue; I had to open a claim to get my full refund. eBay is still not closing my case and giving me my money back.

This is so unfair, I want my full refund and my customs clearance money back.

Delivery before Dispatch

Checked eBay account again and stating item Estimated Delivery date 13th Feb and on same Web Capture page it states Dispatch Date as 22nd Feb the same date I was told it had been Delivered TODAY the day I was told they were delivered on the 11th Feb ???

The strange thing is I have checked back in my diary for the 11th Feb and I did have a strange delivery on that day of " 4 packs of Raw Hide dog chews " But I do not have a dog nor do my neighbours so I put them in the waste bin that week and when I checked on your shop site today I noticed you sell them ! now is that a coincidence or did you send me the wrong package ??? .
cannot upload photograph as they are possibly on Council tip by now . So where are my 4 packs of Floss possibly some dog with clean teeth somewhere BUT not funny I am out of pocket and as a pensioner I
need every penny .

My goodness this site has gone down the…

My goodness this site has gone down the pan. I used to use eBay all of the time but will now be using free local selling services such as Facebook etc.

Sold a Fitbit online and the buyer paid something like £4.20. Claimed that it arrived and was empty, despite being fully sealed in the original bag.

Anyway I agreed to refund and cut my losses. This is now the second month this nightmare has continued. I returned the money, but they had logged an issue so eBay couldn't get involved until the 'make it right' period or something was over.

I paid them from PayPal and then ebay charged my PayPal with the same amount. I then got a call saying a 'Policy Exception' would be applied and that I wouldn't be charged anything. Neither would be buyer. This was to take 10 days to action due to a new 'payment system' being in place. Still waiting 6 weeks later and to top off this awful ongoing joke they have charged me £1.45 final selling fees which they want me to pay from my PayPal.

Really seems to be totally complex for just a refund!

EBAY - DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE
I bought an item listed as brand new. The seller was local so to avoid postal and paypal charges he
suggested dropping the item off and paying cash. I went along with this. When I opened the box and the
supposed sealed bag it was obvious the item was used. He refused to offer any refund and as I had paid
cash Ebay offered no protection. When I sent the seller a message via Ebay saying as they were ignoring me I would leave appropriate feedback, the seller cancelled the sale (even though I had marked it as payment made) which meant I couldn't leave feedback and then issued an unpaid item case against me. I got Ebay to call me back and explained the situation to the customer service person. He said he would get the unpaid item strike removed and as there was a clear breach of trust, send the case to be reviewed by the Trusts and Safety team who would more than likely offer a refund after 24-48 hours. I waited for over a week and then requested ebay call me again which they did but all the Customer Service rep did was pass a message onto the original customer service rep to call me back. No call back at all. I then requested yet another call back to which after a very lengthy call the response was there was no way I would be getting a refund despite what I had been told. This was for £100 so not a trifling amount. He also stated that despite all the evidence - the messages etc. he had no power to doing anything about the seller who was clearly dishonest. I had to make a separate report against the seller myself despite going through the whole story numerous times and the messages between us proving my case. So not for the first time I feel thoroughly let down by Ebay and their customer services team. The last CS rep I spoke to said that he would ask the original CS rep to call me but with absolutely no promise of when and as yet still nothing 3 days later. He also stated that the call would be marked as a complaint and I would 100% get a follow up from Ebay to review the situation. Guess what -absolutely nothing. As we know ebay make massive profits and manage to avoid paying what I would consider a fair tax on those profits and still treat their customers in this absolutely appalling manner.
Meanwhile the dishonest seller is still listing and selling items with absolutely no comeback from Ebay
whatsoever despite the overwhelming evidence against the seller.

Abysmal

In a word, abysmal. I would say if you can avoid making an account with eBay, or dealing with eBay, then you should do so and try to use other services.

I won't go into too much detail, but when you run into problems, much of their system is a shambolic attempt to save money (because they don't yet have enough) and automate customer services, which typically results in the customer suffering.

As an example, I recently got locked out of my account, and was provided with a button to 'chat to customer services', which I clicked on. After asking a couple of questions, the agent told me that I would have to phone, and gave me two numbers - before promptly disconnecting from the chat.
I call the first number, which tells me they are closed and to call back when they're open. Useful! This is at 2pm on a weekday.
I call the second number, which is an entirely automated system, spewing out nonsensical answers which are entirely detached from the question asked. Even more useful!

Save yourself some hassle and shop/sell elsewhere.

Very dishonest company

Very dishonest company. Found an obvious case of account hijack several times involving the same listings. There is no way of reporting a hijacked account (unless it is your own account). You can only report a listing on that account one at a time with the greatest difficulty. If eBay do take notice, they certainly take their time! Seems to me, ebay actively encourage fraud and theft.
