As I boycott Amazon, the only way I find things online is on eBay. I have had an eBay account since 2009 and they have been indispensable for me throughout the last decade.
I have sold on eBay, it is brilliant.
I buy regularly on eBay, during the covid-19 epidemic they have kept me supplied with all the things I can’t now buy in shops.
I suspect that the majority of bad reviews of eBay here on Trustpilot are from people who have only used it once or twice and had bad experiences; anyone who has used it regularly, like me for over a decade, cannot help but love it.
ebays ridiculous selling restrictions
wanting to sell with ebay and i really cannot understand why they only let you sell 10 items on ebay, would hardly generate a decent income. For a company that makes money from people selling on their platform with the frankly overcharging and taking a cut from the postage they are stopping sellers from making them money, IM going to EBID, better fees, better terms and better reviews

This marketplace has seriously went downhill. I have dedicated nearly 7 years of my life selling on here and this year with covid given the 40% rise in mail as well as lack of staff in a lot of Royal Mail offices a lot of post has went missing or delayed. I have worked so hard for nothing because I have had to give out lots of refunds and they won't remove my negatives for the customers who are inconsiderate of the circumstances. I've never been so appalled in my life by this marketplace. I will be now taking my business elsewhere and give amazon a try....after 7 years as a business seller and 16 years as a member I have never been so disgusted.

Happy with eBay!
I’ve purchased over 1500 items on eBay since signing up in 2003 (crazy I know!) and I am generally happy with my experiences and purchases. PayPal offers great buyer confidence also. I shop on there for almost everything. The only thing I would like is perhaps something like a next day delivery system like PrimeAmazon (which in some respects can give Amazon a slightly higher edge), but in terms of competitiveness, I have found eBay to be quite competitive for the same products!

AVOID! Signed up on the 25th and was banned on the 26th. Live support are rude and just close the chat.
Refunds are to long and a pain
There is a certain other company that deals with refunds in a flawless and quick manner while protecting the seller. Due to the process the caliber of the seller is greatly improved. I use that platform for 99% of my online purchases now, it used to be around 50/50. Ebay falls over when it comes to this part. Its too long and I do not feel protected. The small saving you get using ebay is simply not worth the pain if its faulty or not sent.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE DO NOT deal with them
Totally useless. I got them involved when a seller sent goods which were not as described and not fit for purpose. Communication with the seller broke down when they said they would only refund if I gave them a 5* review. I refused. eBay decided that I should return the item and they would process the refund.
They gave a date for sending them the tracking info but the link to the address label didn’t work, neither did the link to notify them. The day before the deadline I got an email stating I had failed to supply details so closed the case. eBay had received my email but ignored it and just filed it. Still waiting for my refund but now they are refusing to pay the postage. I pointed out to them that in law if goods are not as described or faulty I can return them for a full refund INCLUDING return postage but was told that their terms and conditions overrule the law. They seem to be nothing more than trained monkeys spouting rubbish off a crib sheet. Not interested in resolving the problem and now it seems they have removed my negative review. Total bunch of charlatans.
Ebay allows sellers to sell faulty goods and wont help buyer
I recently bought a £450 iphone through Ebay. It was faulty from the outset but it took me about 3 weeks to rule out the SIM card and the service provider. Eventually I raised the fault with Ebay and the seller. After giving me the run around I asked for a refund. I had unwittingly passed a 30-day mark where they both refused to take any action, closed the case, and wouldn't allow me to send a bad review. To complain to Ebay you have to write to them in Ireland - what a joke for a web-based company. I am currently paying to take the seller to court, been without a working phone for 2.5 months. Went to Apple store who gave me a report that the phone was found to be damaged and irreparable by them 18 months ago. Ebay are allowing their dodgy sellers to de-fraud the public. Disgraceful. I will never use Ebay again.

Around 1/3 of eBay sellers in my experience are misrepresenting goods ie different items, their location (typically China as UK), don't deliver, or refuse to accept Paypal because it protects the buyer.
Ebay buyers also exploit loopholes to return goods.

Ebay's policy of only allowing positive buyer feedback is misleading and dishonest.
I've been a happy ebay buyer and seller for many years now but what has just happened has changed my opinion. I held an ebay auction for a le creuset casserole. I had 1 bid for £101 and towards the end another bid for £102. The second bidder won but then sent a message saying she had found another and so wasn't going to pay. I gave the first bidder a second chance offer but this was declined so I lost £102. I opened an unpaid item claim and was told by ebay that when the case was closed I could leave feedback. After 4 days the buyer still refused to pay and when I closed the case well within the time limit I received a message stating that I couldn't leave feedback because either I'd already given feedback or left it too late, neither of which were true. I contacted customer services who replied that it was ebay policy that sellers could not give negative reviews of buyers, only positive ones. In my opinion ebay's feedback policy is deliberately creating a false impression to those who read it. Are they aware that only positive feedback can be left? Ebay should allow sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers who don't pay after winning an auction. Ebay's policy of only allowing positive buyer feedback is misleading and dishonest.

Absolutely shocking business. After 388 sales and purchases over 15 years (private user) and 100 percent positive feedback I have had enough with eBay. Their policies only protect the buyer. I have lost a £450 thermomix that went missing in being returned to me and never got a penny, I had an internet hub returned to me saying it didn’t work and asked for proof from the buyer and he wouldn’t send me it, i lost the case as eBay guarantee returns eBay wouldn’t look at the case, I had to pay all fees and return postage and when I got it back it worked fine and lastly I sold a brand new google nest mini device only wrapped in A4 paper and delivered by Hermes, pictures all provided by Hermes show a solid package. The buyer said I sent them a pink t-shirt completely ripping me off in a clear fraud case and eBay said that I have refund them as the buyer is always right and said it wasn’t as described. I have to pay for a pink t shirt to be returned that I have never seen in my life. The t shirt was in the A4 paper supposedly on a few hundred mile journey and stayed in a solid square package. Requested to shut my account, no point ever selling a July thing on eBay as it is one sided and you lose all

15+ year seller, I've recently been selling books. After over a year my account got suspended. No reason why, no appeal process, nothing.
I spent hours trying to get hold of someone to talk to; chat people just pasted standard wording concerning suspensions and immediately leave the chat. Noone would call back when requested via the contact form.
I finally called Customer services in US. Also, wasn't interested in talking to me. Promised that a manager would call back twice - no contact.
And just like that... eBay decided that selling books isn't allowed (for me anyway), suspended my account and are not willing to review their decision.
I tried to open a new account but it was immediately locked - apparently, I cannot ever use eBay again....
This is a joke. Blanket suspensions without the right to appeal should not be permitted.
Now far too complicated
Terrible - having not sold on this for a few years and deciding to sell one item, I must have spent about 5 hours trying to wade through all the complicated scenarios they present, fees they might or might not charge, automatic relisting with possible fees unless you proceed to sell at a lower price, complicated postage options.
Not for private individuals selling the odd item anymore. For professional or semi professional sellers only now. I won't be trying to sell through them again.

Terrible company, the customer service is horrendous and they are very restrictive of a sellers account. My account has been restricted 3 times in two weeks for absolutely no reason. Each time this happens it takes 2-3 days to unrestrict. I cant stress enough for those thinking of selling on eBay please think again it’s not worth the time and hassle spent dealing with this unprofessional and shambles of a company. They have even tried charging me commission for items which were exempt due to a promotional 3 months period and well within the T&C’s and eBay tried saying they were ineligible even though clearly they were eligible. Fraud comes to mind, as soon as you start selling a lot they put the brakes on you. There is certainly something going on in this company when your told the back office which apparently no one at eBay has a contact number for and can’t contact themselves (Hilarious) is responsible for restricting accounts and invoice charges hmm. Probably better off going to Amazon the fees are slightly more but the service is much more professional and at least they don’t try and fraud you by saying there promotional fees period doesn’t cover eligible items ha.

Ebay is a buyer/seller platform auction or set sale. Not a postal service so what justification do they have charging for a service they do not provide.
If I were wealthy enough I would take up a legal challenge over this but I couldn't afford the lawyers needed to fight it.
The only other option would be public protest. If everyone objected to this practice it could have some effect

Third class management cannot handle dodge buyers on top to get positive feedback by buyers it return money without acknowledgement of seller in this way i lost item and money too. Meanwhile few sellers are play double standard game as well but all this is happening because ebay is double charging them once with paypal and once via ebay invoice on name of service charges on top they want seller to reduce price otherwise their algorithm doesn't recommend ur product. I don't know who they are playing their devil strategy in uk
Careless seller and ebay support him!
I ordered a 36 inch tower fan. When it arrived it turned ok, the motor could clearly be heard but no air came out. I tried to contact the seller but got no response so tried to return it via ebays return and refund service. Well, the only return I could arrange via then was by Royal Mail. Ok, so it was free but I am disabled and cannot get to the post office (besides not having a car for such a large packet). I cancelled the return and my nice neighbour had a look at the fan. The air intake was blocked solid by a lump of plastic covered in glue! I left neutral, not negative since it was now working, seller feedback so imagine my surprise when I see this feedback had been removed at the sellers request! So not only has my honest review been removed for no good reason but it makes the seller out to be reactive to his buyers when he obviously is not. I have added him to my little black book of fraudulent sellers!
