Dishonest and incompetent after sales services
This is a very long story, summary at the end:
- car bought from Tullamore Motors Renault dealers less than a year ago.
- red warning light sign came on accompanied by a notice to get a service on Friday Oct 6.
- tried all morning to get through to Tullamore Motors, was told I would get a call back, got nothing. Then I was 'put through' to a line that just rang out and hung up.
- Finally got through to someone, but had to wait while she asked someone else
- About 5 pm Friday evening I was told that the light was serious, that I shouldn't drive the car and that I needed it towed - too late though on Friday. Had to wait until Saturday
- It needed to go to P O'Brien Motors in Mullingar because Tullamore do not have an EV engineer (Renault want us to be believe they are leaders in EV sales, but not in repairs apparently)
- I was told that O'Briens would have to deal with the replacement car promised in my warranty
- Phoned the recovery company early Saturday morning and was told they'd be there in 45 minutes.
- An hour later I got a call from a different person asking for my address. He assured me he would be there in an hour and asked if I had contacted O'Briens to let them know the car was coming (I had foolishly assumed that either Tullamore or the Recovery company would deal with that)
- then began a series of more than a dozen calls to O'Briens in Mullingar which were never answered. Services don't work on Saturdays, because as we all know there are no breakdowns on weekends. Sales were supposed to be working, but if they were, they didn't answer the phone.
- I also tried Tullamore again, where, at least, they do answer the phones, but only to tell me it was out of their hands, nothing they could do
- Recovery truck finally arrived about 12:30 and that was it for the rest of the weekend
- Monday morning I got through to O'Briens and gave my details and then was put on hold and then they hung up on me
- Called back, was told no one had hung up on me and I was a liar. Was told that there was no information about my car and it was not their responsibility to provide a replacement. I should have arranged that with the recovery company - stupid me. She said she would give me a number to arrange it, and then hung up.
- When I called back (the third time in row now remember), she said she didn't hang up but that I had said I didn't want the number - duh!
- Very begrudgingly she gave me the number of Europcar, who are the supplier of replacement vehicles for Renault.
- I called Europcar. Very friendly, very nice and very dishonest. They didn't have a car (??) Wouldn't have one till Wednesday probably. I should try O'Briens again - yeah right!
- Despairing of O'Briens, I tried Tullamore again. Got someone who seemed concerned, listened, contacted O'Briens and was able to inform me that they were doing checks. Imagine! Again repeated that it was up to O'Briens to supply the replacement car. Assured me he would sort it and get back to me asap. I never heard from him again.
- On Tuesday morning I got a call from Europcar to tell me how difficult it is to get a car because we all know there's such a shortage of cars in the world and especially at car rental companies. It would be Thursday at the earliest.
- Finally, late Tuesday afternoon got through to the mechanic at O'Brien's who told me - hey - there's nothing wrong with the car - the people in Tullamore gave me wrong information - sorry, nothing I can do about that. I can come to collect the car once he's done a test drive in it. (90 kilometres away, and oh, I don't have a car, not even a replacement car)
- I tried to contact Renault Ireland to complain about all this. Not surprisingly, no one answers the phone and, the final bit of the farce, when I contacted live chat I got a nice friendly greeting and was then ignored for 20 minutes. Eventually, more than 20 minutes later, I got this message:
"we wasnt ignoring you
Im happy to asssit you now."
- So:
1. I was told by Renault mechanics that my car was too dangerous to drive. 5 days later I'm told by Renault mechanics, there's nothing wrong with my car.
2. I have a warranty that promises a replacement car in case of breakdown. No replacement was provided.
3. I need to make my way to Mullingar to get my car back at my own expense, not to mention time.
