Hi,
I've been using UpCloud for Kubernetes and have had a very positive experience overall.
What stood out immediately was how easy it was to get started. I was able to create the required resources, provision a Kubernetes cluster, and start deploying workloads without needing external help. The interface is straightforward, and the documentation and setup guides were clear enough that I could find answers on my own whenever I needed them.
One feature I particularly appreciate is the pricing transparency. At every step, I could clearly see what resources I was consuming and how much they cost. There were no unexpected charges or hidden costs, which made it much easier to manage infrastructure with confidence.
Other areas that worked well for me include storage management, node pools, cluster administration, kubectl access, and the overall user experience. The credentials, instructions, and supporting documentation were all easy to find and understand.
I do have one small suggestion regarding load balancers and certificate management. The ability for UpCloud to provide and manage TLS certificates is a useful feature, but I believe it would be better as an explicit opt-in feature rather than the default behavior.
In my Kubernetes environments, I prefer the cluster to remain relatively independent from provider-managed services unless I intentionally enable those integrations. During setup, it took some time to understand that TLS termination and certificate handling were being managed at the load balancer level by default. For users who manage certificates inside Kubernetes using tools such as cert-manager, this can add some confusion and make it harder to reason about where TLS is being terminated.
This is a minor observation and did not significantly impact my overall experience. Overall, I found UpCloud's Kubernetes offering easy to use, well documented, cost-transparent, and developer-friendly. It is one of the smoother cloud Kubernetes experiences I have used, and I would happily continue using it.
Overall, most of the startups should and will consider Upcloud.
Account suspended without any explanation and they won't even tell you why
I was a paying customer running a simple CRUD application with a managed PostgreSQL database. Completely normal usage no automation, no suspicious activity, nothing that would violate any reasonable Terms of Service.
I deleted my services myself because I no longer needed them and didn't want to keep getting charged. Immediately after, my account was suspended.
When I contacted support, they told me they "cannot disclose the exact reason for the suspension" for privacy and security reasons. So not only did they ban me with zero warning, they refuse to even tell me what I supposedly did wrong.
To make it worse, I had $1.50 remaining in my account balance that I can no longer access.
I contacted them requesting either a refund of my remaining balance or a clear explanation of the violation. So far, nothing satisfactory.
Banning a paying customer who deleted their own services, giving no reason, and keeping their remaining balance is not acceptable behavior from any cloud provider. I would strongly caution anyone considering UpCloud if they can do this without explanation, it can happen to you too.
Brutal blocking of account and deleting resources
Once I tried to make a deposit using my Visa card I was blocked from login in to the account, forcing me to e-mail abuse and waiting for multiple days for a reply. After 4 days of sitting with a blocked account they deleted my server and released the IP address my client was connecting to. Now they are saying I can access my empty account but no way I will ever put my trust into something like that! It was a brutal experience! Brutally dysfunctional!

Rigid guidelines doesn't mean slamming the door
Had to create an account on trustpilot just to write this.
I've read bad reviews but assumed they were rare, weird scenarios.
You know what they say, only people with bad experiences write reviews.
And, here i am.
i activated my account (with a credit card) and the 250$ trial they promoted with the lowest hardware possible, just to check if their service fitted my usecase. Not even 5 hours later i got an email saying my account was suspended.
Here we go.

Imagine being an hobbyist creating my first homelab in my home who just wanted a vps to test out some stuff and getting banned for... what?

Imagine saying "Hey, you did this thing which really isn't allowed, you have 24 hours to comply"

Disappointing "Upgrades"—Paying More for Less
UpCloud’s recent "plan improvements" are nothing more than a disguised price hike wrapped in clever marketing. While they boast about a better platform, the reality for loyal users is a frustrating reduction in value, characterized by shrunken storage quotas and the introduction of arbitrary restrictions on lower-tier plans. It is a disappointing move that prioritizes squeezing margins over providing value, essentially forcing users to pay more for fewer resources. Despite the decent performance, this lack of transparency and the "nickel-and-diming" of basic features make it very difficult to recommend them to developers who care about cost-to-resource efficiency.

Service is great—payment processing is awful
Service is great, but I can't seem to set up recurring payments on our credit card. Constantly making one-time payments is annoying to say the least. The amount of time I have spent dealing with this is insane.

Bad bad customer service they'll suspend your account even before 9r after buying the account after the trial period without any reason or warning.
They told me to provide some details including card ownership i gave to them... they unlock the account for few weeks then blocked it permanently again

GDPR compliance with Internal IP-addresses.

UpCloud looks good at first glance
UpCloud looks good at first glance. The website is polished and the control panel is clean and easy to use. Unfortunately, that is where the positive experience ended for me.
They advertise a 1 Gbps port, in the locations I tested, the real performance was roughly 4 times lower than promised. That alone was disappointing, but the bigger problem was how they handled the trial account.
I activated their advertised one-month trial, deployed one server, used it for several days, and even started moving infrastructure over. After that, I created a second server, which the interface clearly allowed during the trial. Around 10 to 15 minutes later, my account was suddenly banned.
There was no meaningful explanation. My activity was fully within their Terms of Service, and I work with around 10 other major hosting providers without any comparable issues. If creating a second server is not acceptable, then it should not be possible within the trial interface in the first place.
I contacted their abuse email to appeal and ask for clarification. Several days passed and I received no response. Imagine if it was your paid service and you've already got some mattering infra there.
In my case, UpCloud turned out to be all presentation and no reliability: lower-than-promised performance, an unexplained ban, and support that did not respond when it mattered. I would not trust them with any serious infrastructure and I would recommend choosing another provider.
UPD: Upcloud replied to me "Following a thorough review, we have determined that your account has been suspended due to violations of our Terms of Service. This action was taken to protect the security and integrity of our platform. As a result, the suspension is permanent, and access to the account will not be reinstated. For privacy and security reasons, we are unable to share further details about the internal review process."
They didn't even bother to name the specific rule or action that led to the ban. ha-ha, from my side gona advice you to rebrand into "DownCloud"

Terrible attitude towards potential…
Terrible attitude towards potential clients, complete lack of customer focus. To access the trial period, verification was required, asking for a photo of the card and ID. I provided them, but in response, I received an email with the text: Hello, this information does not match our records. Please submit the correct information for your account.
Without any details and even without the name of the sender (employee).
