Worst customer experience of my life. During aperture works to install a lift, subcontractors cut through live cables and left our disabled son room with no electricity. On contacting Wessex to get this resolved, we were told only simple works had been completed and its very unlikely their work caused the problem (8 hours work!), it must be our fault. Furthermore, if they were going to send anyone out we would likely be charged £250 as we are at fault. The subcontractors colluded with a story (untrue that we told them there no electrics in the room), and they did not want to fix their issue or believe what we were saying. Then began our nightmare trying to get them to take responsibility. This is absolutely a predatory business practice.
We chose to appoint our own electrician begrudgingly due to the rude and condescending communication from Installations. She gaslit us into thinking the issue could be us and had no choice but to get an independent electrician to not get hit by a massive charge. We had a new issue in our home caused by the works, and when asking for support were treated with hostility and asked for an incredibly high degree of proof for Wessex to do anything about it, and with a threat hanging over us. Even after our electrician proved it was damage they caused, they didn't believe us! Still refused to send anyone out or take responsibility unless we provide them with xyz! The communication would have driven most people insane. Getting accountability was like drawing blood from stone.
How did this get resolved? We had to escalate to the council TWICE, to get a date for the electrician to come back out and fix their damages. No urgency, this was going to weeks in the future. We had to escalate again. We communicated this was a safeguarding issue for our son and he was not able to move to his room for weeks, which didn't change Wessex behaviour at all. Finally they realised it was their fault once the electrician attended again.
We got our electrician charge refunded, but any compensation for the 3 weeks we had to fight tooth and nail, the very condescending and rude communication, or the new wiring (unsanctioned) we now have to live with at home? Nope. We got a stock AI response to our complaint that simply repeated all my points. Not an exaggeration, the absolute worst customer experience which deeply impacted the household.
How can a company treat its customers like this in 2026?! I think its because they work with the vulnerable they feel they can treat people in this manner without consequences or challenge, or perhaps it was because we are an ethnic minority they thought it was OK to communicate with us so rudely. Looking at other reviews of their services, where the vulnerable have been hard done and left in the lurch, Im really sad but absolutely not surprised. As others have said below, disabled people aren't stupid.
If anyone is being denied adequate services by Wessex, you do have some recourse avenues.
1. If you have contracted them through the council, escalate to the council and ask them not to release funds to Wessex. They will advocate to you and have the buying power to be heard. This broke the impasse for us.
2. Look at building regulations, and best practice. In our case, proper process wasn't followed (testing electrics). You can escalate by complaining to Business Control.
3. You can complain through consumer protection routes, such as Trading Standards UK – for negligence, unsafe work, or misleading claims.
4. If you have contracted Wessex yourself, seek claims through small claims court.
Good luck.
Lovely man , came first thing on day after reporting fault and all sorted quickly

Simon rescued us today! He was polite, friendly and very efficient. The stairlift was quickly fixed and the fault fully explained and resolved.
Don’t know how we would cope without the stairlift now.
Would 100% recommend.

With using a wheelchair, a broken lift has a huge impact on my life. I was super happy that the engineer turned up so quickly and was able to repair my through floor lift, allowing me to be independent again.

I can recommend Wessex lifts for anyone considering putting in a lift (through floor lift in my case), knew exactly what was required, where best to site and sorted everything out inc building control, the fitters were great, very tidy and no mess and the building company they use for the building work were also brilliant (bathroom mobility Manchester who did the work on the bedroom and accessible bathroom)

Had a curved stairlift fitted for my parents. Company could not have been more helpful making the process easy to follow from the surveyor who initially attended to the fitters on the day of installation. Very attentive and helpful staff who dealt with elderly couple. The lift was installed within a day and clear instructions on how to use the lift shown on site and also written instructions were left.
Parents were delighted with the lift and its installation. Also great after care service plan giving peace of mind. The company were happy to speak to my parents when they forgot certain operating procedures. However, it's been a quality product so the product has not had any operating issues. needed.

🚫 Extremely Disappointed After Years of Planning
We’ve worked in the accessibility industry for years, and I can honestly say this has been one of the most frustrating vendor experiences we’ve encountered.
After years of planning and working toward a solution for a client using the Wessex lift, the company abruptly informed us—after months of silence—that they will no longer serve the North American market and will not fulfill our order. No advance notice. No transparency. No support.
Our client paid a deposit, we prepped the installation space, and Wessex had every opportunity to communicate this change—but failed to do so. Their lack of professionalism has created major delays, unnecessary costs, and left us scrambling to find a replacement at the last minute.
If you’re in the U.S. and looking for dependable partners in accessibility equipment, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Reliability and communication matter in this industry, and unfortunately, Wessex has proven they can’t be trusted with either.

Originally purchased the lift in late 2021. It stopped working after 6 months. Support from Wessex was completely useless. The local dealer was finally able to diagnose the problem. Since then the lift has randomly failed 3 times, and then a week or two after each failure, just started working again. Now the door solenoid doesn’t work, and to no surprise, Wessex support is useless.
ignored by wessex lifts last two days
The through floor lift installation work and positive customer care approach could not have been better. It was on time and smooth. Special mention must go to Dave and the team at Empire builders. Their knowledge, hard work and general tidiness is unusual nowadays.
If after care is to this standard they will deserve another 5 star review.
