Avoid this con artist
The guy showed up 4 hours late and what was a £49 job he eloborated and wasted time and charged £205 for a job that was not even done correctly leaving the key stuck to the outside of the frontdoor and leaving our property exposed and then refusing to come back and then swearing at me when I reported him to the credit card company.
Avoid this company as a rip off
Avoid this company as a rip off! I locked myself out of my flat and left key in back of door. When I called was quoted £49 call out fee and not told about any labour cost, online it appeared to be a local company and a local number but appears not after reading these reviews! After being told a guy would be with me shortly, 20 mins arrival time according to website, he arrived 1 hour 20 mins later. The nice subcontractor guy managed to get the door open in 20 seconds by putting a gadget through the letterbox and pushing the handle down, great quick job but they wanted to charge me another £95 labour charge so a shocking £150 for under 30 seconds work. After calling back 3 times I queried the high £95 labour cost for 20 seconds of work, as I wasn't told this on the phone (i suggest the company listen to the phone conversation).I told the horrible man on the phone that the company was taking the p... He then was arguing with myself and my friend who is a tradesman who was helping me who had also spoken to him on the phone before. He then kept accusing me of swearing at him. I only said your taking the p..., stating facts, and no swear words came out of my mouth. I wasn't paying £95 labour for under 30 seconds work which was ridiculous and a con! He was sprouting rubbish about costs insurance etc.... now reading the awful reviews of others being ripped off I am really glad I stood my ground and didnt pay the full overpriced amount. I still paid £100. Suggest you sort your customer services and costs out and stop trying to rip people off!!! DO NOT USE THEM! I will be reporting the company.
Don’t use
Don’t use! You will be ripped off. We were charged £638 for a simple repair to the multi-point lock on our back door, made up of £49 call-out charge + £120 labour (70 minutes) + £469 for a part which I could have bought online for £168.
Locksmiths formal complaints process
Instead of writing about my abhorrent experience which matches many POOR reviews here I instead made a full A4 Word doc complaint to:
Google website: Locksmiths formal complaints process
Also contacted my bank which is processing an investigation with a view to returning my money, this could take about 6 weeks.
Recommend you do likewise please.
Shocking
Shocking! They said they would be 30 mins, then that they're on their way after an hour it was 15 mins away and then eventually turned up after 1 hour 30 mins.
It took the polite gentleman Lee about 3 mins to open the door, used no perishable materials just a sheet that he moved up and down the edge of the door and then I had to pay 149 pounds for it. Absolutely shocking!

Really not worth wasting time with this company. Their communication is really poor, you have to chase them to get anywhere at all, what they promise they do not deliver, and they like putting the phone down on you!
Don't use them.
Good customer experience.
Quick response to my query, locksmith arrived within an hour, checked the issue and replaced the broken lock.
Very pleasant to deal with, professional and explained everything he was doing. Double checked everything and left everything as he found it. 3 year guarantee on the lock and work carried out.
This company is a complete rip off
This company is a complete rip off! Do not use them. They said they would refund my money after charging me £224. A booking fee of £49! Outrageous for a start.Do not know how they are still in business? Use them at your peril!!
GRD locksmiths=Poor value for money
GRD locksmiths on the surface looked good. We were living with our nephew in Penbury and were due to travel later that day. The locksmith arrived 90 minutes after I called. Their website advertised that the prices started from £50. I had accidentally over extended one of the windows and couldn't get it closed. The locksmith tapped the top of the window and spent only 5 minutes with us. I was charged £140 which I consider to be poor value for money, although I do appreciate that they attended to us quickly.

Quoted £59 for the job to change a simple nightlatch cylinder and ended up being £219. £59 was the call out, £95 labour and the nightlatch cylinder part was £65. Said things like "I used domestic prices to keep costs down as much as possible" Total rip off. I wish I would have read these Trustpilot reviews first. Look for ANYONE else to change your locks and agree a fixed price.
AVOID AVOID AVOID
Complete con artists! £450 charge to replace something that cost £60 from screw fix!! (£69 call out fee, £160 labour charge, £221 for part)
The owner is vile! When I asked for details of the product used he refused to provide it, stating he uses a supplier for the best quality parts. The email exchange went on all day and then he finally admitted it’s the same product from screwfix.
I was on my own with my child and put on the spot to pay immediately.
If I could mark lower than 1 star I WOULD!!
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Will be reporting this company everywhere I can!! DO NOT USE
RIP OFF - AVOID ! ! !
RIP OFF! almost 400 quid for a 50 quid lock. this company is a total scam. avoid at all costs !
DO NOT USE
Yep, I fell for it too. Was told my lock was discontinued 12 years ago so was an extortionate amount for the last one he 'found' at the locksmiths yet when I eventually got him to tell me what make it is etc surprise surprise it can be brought on amazon for £38!! He's still got part of my door and also the invoice I finally received from Jim O'Sullivan has a wrong digit on the VAT registered number! DO NOT USE THESE SCAMMERS. The lying locksmith they sent me is called Terry and lives in Merstham near Redhill.

THEY ARE A SCAM AVOID AVOID AVOID
I’m a 21 year old student who was trying to find a local locksmith in the area to simply put a lock on my door. I called various companies for a price inquiry and the majority stated that for the job it would be a sum of £100. I called GRD locksmith for an inquiry specifically for Key lock “installation”. The gentleman on the phone stated the entire installation would cost between £45 and £90. And that his employers were well trained and as part of their “business” standards the workmen are always fully equipped with the equipment that they need. I was assured that on the day I will have a variety of locks for me to pick from prior to the installation the day so I shouldn’t worry about getting one by myself.
Due to the fact that on the website they said that they were trusted by local authorities such as the police in cases of emergencies and the price which was similar but slightly cheaper than other inquiries I booked them in the next day at around 12pm because apparently they had a another job nearby and it was going to be more convenient for them.
Come the day, Rich (the locksmith) arrived at our home at around 11:45. He was shown the door briefly and he went back to his van for about 30 minutes “looking for the tools which he was meant to have on the job” he came back inside and said he didn’t have any tools so he had to go to the shops to buy one. It took him over 30+ minutes to get the part and come back as we are located quite far from shops. Regardless, he came back at around 12:50 and began working and didn’t even meet one of the many stated standard of the company because he didn’t ask if I was happy with the products. After he finished he asked for a hoover and I said that I would do the hoovering as it was no bother. He then went outside into his van because he said he was going to calculate the overall price.
He came back 10 minutes later and claimed that I owed him £165+ for the job that he did. I was beyond shocked and speechless and a family member was even furious at the situation. I told him I hadn’t had the money because, he said that I needed to pay and informed him that wasn’t what I was informed by the gentlemen on the phone. He then passed me the invoice and it showed that the part was apparently £65 and I needed to pay him £180 for the “2 hours of work” when Infact he worked for less than an hour and was consistently on his phone while doing the job. He blamed me for making the mistake and said he’ll get the recordings of the conversation prior to the service. I agreed because I knew for a fact that I was in the right.
Rich left without payment and I contacted my father for assistance of the situation. But, found it useless because he was at work and didn’t know much about it. So I called the main phone to talk to the directing manger. He said he’ll send the “recordings”. Additionally, on the phone he said he’ll take of £90 from the £225. I still was unhappy as this was £40 over the max range he offered before service. He cut the phone and said he’ll call me back.
I didn’t hear from him the rest of the day. The next day prior to me going to my university placement I kindly messaged GRD locksmith if they could send the recordings they promised and their business credentials. The person messaging me had a very sour and vile attitude. And said that I shouldn’t pay and I should keep the key.
However, despite the overall job being unfinished and scruffy (and I mean you would think an beginner apprentice did the job). Rich did do the job and it felt wrong not to pay the price I was promised prior to the service. I asked if I can have an office address to send the money to pay in real life as I did not feel comfortable paying over the phone. They denied and kept making hurtful and slightly racial attacks. Regardless I paid the “directing manger” the money that I had agreed to.
I believe that this scheme has been occurring and is currently happening to other individuals and. AVOID this “company”
Avoid at all costs!
I own a flat , and have refugees living there. Their key broke in the lock, and my husband arranged for GRD came and replaced the lock ( £238 After doing this he told me it was an old lock, and at some point, it will need replacing. He said it was fine for now if we were careful. He then fixed the night latch at the back of the door which I was pleased about.
6 days later, the tenants were not able to get into the flat. They are refugees with no money to go and sit and wait somewhere warm and have a young child. I was out, as was my husband so did not know the name or number to call the locksmiths. I went on to google and called another one. They said they would be there is 45 mins. after 30 mins my husband called me with the details of GRD. I called, and they suggested I cancel the other locksmith, and that someone would be there in 30 mins. Their fitter called me and said he would be one hour. This would mean that the family would have been in the hallway for 1.5 hours. I felt this was unacceptable, so told him I would have to continue with the new locksmith. The new job cost me £339.
I emailed GRD today, who were not at all helpful. Firstly, telling me that the tenants must have double locked the door and slammed it behind them. He now claims that I turned down “fixing the night latch” He claims his fitter “ was told to do his best and keep cost down for now and not change the part” This is not true, I took the locksmiths advice. He never told me it would not last very long. I feel that I was not advised correctly. They are the experts, not me. I would have had the night latch fixed if I had any idea that there was a chance of it causing a problem so soon. To pay £339 6 days later and GRD not to take any responsibility is not acceptable.
