Ever since Republic changed to Republic dish

Ever since dish bought Republic out, the service sucks, I used to get good coverage when it was run by republic and they used sprint for $20 a month, I even had a 10% discount the 10% discount is gone now and the service is terrible. I can't even use networks half the time, now I've got to constantly be in a Wi-Fi area or home. I'm changing my service to somewhere else!!! Also i have been a republic wireless user since they started more than 7 years ago but no longer

80% Praise and 20% Criticism, the Things lost along the Way

Been a long time user for Republic since about 2014. The means to be able to call and text anywhere via WIFI for a super cheap price was fantastic for the college me, you often didn't get any service in a 7 story building when you're only 4 stories up so the WIFI calling and text were genuinely incredibly helpful back in the day. The prices used to be around $5 a month for just WIFI call and text, which was really all I needed because I was never far from an access point, and being able to change to the $10 plan to get cellular call and text was incredible for those few months out of town.

I remember getting credit for inviting family and friends to such a fantastic service, and it worked out great! Buying my phone unlocked was an expensive buy-in, but I would go nearly 2 years without having to pay a bill because even a 50 dollar credit would last me nearly a year. What people would go through in a single month on their phone plans would last me for nearly a year, you couldn't find better deals than this for poor college students and such.

As phones evolved, Republic's software to call and text via WIFI had been outdone by phones having the capability built in. Even with the call and text over WIFI not being unique anymore, it was still a bargain. They had fantastic carrier service, and the bump in price was only from $5 to $10 a month, and $10 to $15 a month; still cheap.

Eventually I caught wind of Mint Mobile, but shrugged it off because I wasn't a fan of movie stars running a business and having the customer's best interests in mind, so I stuck with Republic. But with Mint came a competitor for Republic. Republic was charging $20 a month for 1 gig of data, I had elected to use this after college because it was helpful to have a tiny bit of data for maps when I was commuting, but I always kept Mint in mind because they were charging $15 for 3 gigs.

I had fervent brand loyalty for the green and white icon of Republic, they had treated me so well and had fantastic pricing, so Mint would have to literally come to my house and pay me to switch... or I lose faith in Republic.

Sometime last year, I log in to pay my bill, and the app is all messed up. It's like the CSS/HTML for the page was completely broken, as everything was out of place and illegible. There was another startling issue, instead of the nice green and white theme on the app, everything is black and red, and I see two words I was really not excited to see... Dish Mobile. Service tickets, help chat, and other stuff were turned off or just redirected to Dish's website.

Reading into it, it looks like Republic had sold it's non-walkie-talkie division off to Dish Mobile. They stated it was for their engineers and such, but giving how quickly things broke after the acquisition, they must have wanted the engineers for new janitors or something. This was right alongside Dish's announcement for the 5G network rollout of theirs, so I think it was much more likely they were buying networks for their customers.

I figured I'd say with the new Republic Wireless by Dish Mobile, but my hopes were not high with them. Turns out, Mint didn't have to do much of anything to eventually best out Republic Wireless at this point, because Dish was gonna dig their own grave with me at this point. Getting a new Pixel phone last year, I was warned by Dish that the service may not work because it was a newer phone (6A), but I waived my issues with it.

New sim card, and after some troubleshooting with their IT desk, was able to get it to work. Fantastic service, even if I don't need 5G! December rolls by, and as soon as the 1st comes, my service stops working and I can't even make texts/calls over WIFI. Probably a billing issue or account issue, so I give IT a call; a nice lady troubleshoots for me, and was able to resolve the issue (though she didn't tell me or leave notes on what she did; this would prove consequential later).

January 1st 2023 rolls by, and my service stops working again. I figure at this point it's very likely an account or billing issue as it's right on carryover of a month. I give IT a call again, but when I try to explain what has been done so far, and that it was resolved by a lady in December, a different help desk guy was very hesitant to do much. He chalked it up to the phone not being compatible, and refused to do anything about it. At this point, I realize that whatever it is, it's going to be happening on the first of every month.

That's it, I'm done here.

I tell the guy, "Cancel my service, and I want my number ported out." It's clear to him that I'm not going to be swayed, and that I had no issue forfeiting my credit with them. And I swap to Mint from there.

To reaffirm, this is 80% a success story about republic, and 20% a story on how Dish killed it. I gave 1 star because of their current service, rather than my history (however great) with them. $40 a month for 1 gig? Get real.

Used to be great but now terrible

Used to be great but now terrible. I used to use the VOIP functionality when on wifi overseas so I could still get calls and texts but they cut that off without notice, and now I am on a 2 month trip stuck without phone service.

The second I get back to the States I am changing carrier.

Avoid Republic at all costs.

Find a better budget provider

Much the same as other reports here. Dish ruined Republic. MMS messages now require an additional data purchase before they can be sent or received, regardless of WiFi connection. When updating to new service, all saved voicemails were deleted...not a deal breaker, but c'mon. BD (Before Dish), I never had any issues with sending or receiving pictures. Visual voicemail has disappeared. Time spent with customer service has only offered empty promises and empty solutions.
Dish, please don't waste your time responding to this review, our time together and relationship have been irrevocably ruined. Was a good run, but this is the end.

Republic Wireless is another victim of corporate buyout and suppression of innovation

L---O---N---G story. Basically, Dish bought out Republic Wireless, and ALL of the innovations that Republic Wireless represented were flushed down the toilet. In order to continue with Dish's replacement service--WHICH COST MORE--I no longer had the option to use (essentially) VOIP--which was main reason I was using RW in the first place (because I have no cell coverage where I live)--oh, yeah, unless I BOUGHT A NEW PHONE!! (There was nothing wrong with my existing relatively-new phone, except the "new" service didn't support it.) Was completely without phone service until I finally figured out how to switch to Consumer Cellular (with which I have some issues, but generally I do have phone service). I joined the flocks of RW customers who fled for the woods.... :( -pt

Poor refund policy beware

Due to poor connection since switch to dish and dropped calls I decided to switch carriers. Called ahead of time and was told could get refund had to call back after cancelled to get it because I paid for year. Called back and now told only can get a refund if within 30 Days of paying for year. Even asked to talk to someone higher up said no that's the policy. Feel I was lied to, or staff not trained. bad customer service and refund policy.

Long time republic customer no more

I have been a long time republic wireless customer, about 12 years. I had to upgrade to the new plan under dish network and immediately started having issues. I have several people that I cannot receive text messages from. I also wasn't seeing all the messages in group chats. I called in several times to get help to resolve the issue and every single rep made me repeat the same steps over and over even if those steps didn't work the first 6 times I did them. I was told I must have blocked the numbers but that was not the case. I was told I must have changed settings on my phone. That was also not the case. The only thing I did was insert the upgraded SIM card. I was then told "it must be on their end because it's not us". None of that was true. I was then told after several phone calls in, that a ticket would be escalated to the IT team and to give them 48 hours to work on it, but I had to call back in. After more than 48 hours, I called to get an update and the rep had no update or even knew of a ticket. Called back in at a later date and still no update. In fact, I never received an update or resolution ever. Eventually, I was told republic would send me a new SIM card. I waited 2 weeks before calling in to find out where it was. It was never ordered. So, while on the phone again they actually ordered one. Once I got the new SIM I had to call back in because my info was never put on the new sim card. After one 40 minute phone call to get the new sim card updated, I find that the same exact issues still existed. Called back and they want to walk me through every step for the 100th time. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results and I was going nuts trying to get this issue resolved. One rep even asked me how I knew I wasn't getting texts if I couldn't see them. I gave up. So I decided switching to another company was best but trying to keep my phone number came with its own new set of problems. Republic wouldn't port my phone number that I've had for years. On 2 different attempts from the new carrier, republic told them my phone number was inactive and I had to call republic to get them to "activate" my already active number. I was told by that rep that my account was active and to use a port out pin. Tried to port my number with the pin number and was told republic again said my phone number was inactive. At that point I said forget it. Because each time republic told the new carrier my phone number was inactive, in had to start the process over and order a new SIM card each time. Ordered a SIM with new carrier and will have a new phone number. All of this took over the course of more than a month. I truly tried to give republic a chance because they had been such an easy company to deal with and had pretty good service. That has gone out the window.

DISH Killed Republic

TLDR: STAY AWAY!!! DiSH has ruined what was, for many years, a wonderful company!!!!
I was with Republic Wireless since 2014. Many phones and different plans...in and out of the U.S. on wifi using Republic to call home and buying data as needed within the U.S. Dish has trashed this for all of us ..and the customer service is nil. I feel sorry for the customer service reps.

I was with Republic Wireless for 4…

I was with Republic Wireless for 4 years and recently had to change to the new 5.0 plan. I purchased a phone and plan from the new Republic Wireless/Dish. I had heard about lots of problems with RW, but it was simplest to give them a try, since I was already a customer.
The activation steps were simple, except that they didn't work. I had to call and get that fixed. Then I had no bars of mobile data, I called and they said it would change in 24 hours. It hasn't.
Today is the first day of the new 5.0 plan. I still have no bars/1 bar, even though the coverage map says I should have plenty.
Texts seem OK, and I've made some calls, but they go to mobile even though I have WiFi calling on my phone set.
I'm going to test it out for a month and see how it goes. I hope it works because I don't want to go through this again.
The old RW had a community forum which was excellent. But Dish got rid of it, which is a shame, and their website help is pretty useless.
Customer service is helpful for the most part, but Dish took a good RW service and made it worse. I have never had so much trouble in setting up an account -- and I was already a customer!
Will update this (I hope) in a month or so.

Another former Republic Wireless customer

I had been a Republic Wireless customer for over eight years, since 15 Oct 14.  Today 25 Nov 22 I transferred from RW to Google Fi.  I advise any potential customers considering RW not to sign with the company.  Further, I encourage investors to sell or short DISH Network (NASDAQ:DISH), the company that acquired RW 8 Mar 21.  Here's why:

On 22 Nov 22, a day before Thanksgiving travel I noticed my Moto Z4 phone, purchased three years ago from RW for $500, was reporting "Cellular service unavailable."  I contacted RW customer service and was advised that the phone's sim card needed to be removed.  Because the card had been installed by RW initially, I was unaware of its location and asked customer service how to remove the card--and was advised to open the phone.  The rep further advised that it was to be opened by separating the front cover from the back of the phone.  This didn't seem right, but customer service confirmed phone separation was required.  After separating the phone halves with my thumbnails, I was unable to locate the sim card and informed the customer service rep.  The rep replied "This is a Moto G, right?"  I again reported it was a Moto Z4.  Oh...

The customer service rep then advised that the sim card was in a tray accessed on the top edge of the phone without opening the phone.  After removing and reinserting the sim card, I was instructed to close the phone halves and power on the phone.  This was not possible.  The Moto Z4 was not designed to be opened by customers and after opening mine, the phone could not be closed completely--the left edge failed to seal.  Worse, when opening the phone--as instructed by RW--a ribbon connector between the screen and phone base was pulled apart and cannot be refastened.  With this connector severed, the screen now always is blank and the phone unusable.  After learning this information, the customer service rep offered a $50 credit on my RW bill.  I said this was unacceptable compensation for destroying my $500 phone, and that I would call RW again after researching the situation.

Today I called RW back to discuss the problem.  I said I was prepared to purchase a new Motorola Edge+, on sale today from Motorola for $500, to replace my $500 Moto Z4 destroyed by RW.  In turn, I said I wanted one year free Only What You Need service, priced at $20/month for Dish customers.  After checking with management the customer service rep said their best offer was a 50 percent discount on a moto G 5G phone.  RW currently sells this basic phone for $210, so the offer ostensibly was a $105 discount.  But I was uninterested in the offered phone.  Further, Google Fi currently is selling the moto G 5G for $80--$25 less than the RW's "special discounted price."

I advised customer service that if this was the best the company could do to compensate a longstanding, previously trouble-free customer for company advice that resulted in destruction of my $500 phone, they know why they have lost me as a customer.  And now any reader of this posting knows why as well.

Dish's RW doesn't display sufficient technical expertise for customers to trust the company to provide reliable and competent service, nor does company management evidence satisfactory ability at problem solving.  Dish acquired RW, a company well-regarded by its customers for innovation and superior service.  Under current owner Dish, RW no longer is that well-regarded company.  Potential customers and investors beware!

Republic wireless customer since 2017…but no more

Republic wireless customer since 2017 with no issues until DISH took over. Since DISH took over the company I have had repeated issues to the point that I am no longer a customer. The same issues noted by others - dropped calls, not receiving calls and texts and most recently I was told, with no notice or warning, that they were switching to a new network (or something along those lines) and my phone would no longer be able to receive calls. The absolute last straw is that they disconnected my service, without my permission, in the middle of trying to transfer my number to a new provider. Then they told me it would take 1 - 4 hours to restore service. The customer support people have been very nice and they try to help. That's the only good thing about the company now and, based on the other reviews, that's not always the case.

Day 5 of our phones being locked...We…

Day 5 of our phones being locked...We finally got in touch with someone who is located in Georgia! Thank goodness! She told us that our problem should have been taken care of within 2 hours at most. True to her word...she got one of our phones unlocked so we could access our new provider. Thank you for actually caring enough to fix our problem. There wasn't any other person we had contacted who even bothered to fix the issue. The CEO of this company should really investigate and revamp his "customer service" department. I would like to give the lady who helped us a "10" based on what she did for us...However, the "Company" rating should still be considered a ZERO.
Update to the information above...This company cancelled the work order on my phone once my husband's phone was fixed. You can't make this stuff up!!! Now, we've called several more times trying to get my phone activated and they say they have to do another work order and it will take another several days. A company such as this SHOULD NOT be in business especially if activating and deactivating phones are required on a regular basis. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE! NEVER GO WITH THIS COMPANY. They are currently telling my husband that it will be another 24-48 hours since THEY had to START OVER. It's the typical "pat" answer from these incompetent people.

Republic wireless recently was taken over by Dish. Some than Dish has found a way to destroy what was a petty good service. Now is higher in cost, very bad customer service from people located in India that you can't understand when talking with them. I really don't think Dish is going to or willing to turn this around. Bottom line is, don't do it!

They Made a Nightmare Out of a Great Company.

It was a great company, especially in the beginning. It was high concept back then. Wi fi phones, cell data as needed. Groovy. But over the years you could see upper management losing interest as things began to slip a bit.

Since they sold to Dish, it's been a nightmare. Constantly having to call customer service just so I can even make a call. Voice mail hasn't worked for months. Au revoir, serene Republic. I think I will probably never do business with Dish either, now that I have seen what kind of company they are.

They're reaching out to me here on Trust Pilot to look like they care. Another call to customer service is what they offer. So that would be like call #6 to customer service? Just so they can perform brand management in front of you, dear reader.

So funktioniert Trustpilot
