Thank you for your transparency. We're really sorry to hear that your experience with SafeContractor has not been positive, I would like the opportunity to clarify why your membership fee has risen.
For the past 2 decades, we’ve offered a competitively priced flat-rate membership. In response to a rise in client engagement, we’ve introduced a value-based pricing approach rather than a blanket increase, ensuring our pricing better reflects market standards.
To explain the increase in your fee specifically, I can see that your workforce has increased since your previous renewal. As a result, your account now falls within a higher band, which has affected the fee.
We’re making these necessary changes while remaining committed to supporting the smallest businesses in our contractor base. That being said, I appreciate that this is still a significant increase and understand that it has affected your experience with us. We genuinely value your business and would welcome any more feedback you have for us on this.

Firstly, we want to reassure you that we would never take payment without prior agreement. Renewal arrangements are confirmed in advance through communication from our team and auto-renewal settings are only applied where consent has been provided.

We have key customers insisting on membership because they believe the sales patter from Safe Contractor. 80% of our customers have never heard of it and wouldn't take much notice if they have. This is effectively an extortion racket owned by a private equity firm. In 5 years the price has doubled, and there has been no material benefit or added value in that time. Our clients insist we have it, and the cost will be passed on, but I could not tell you a single benefit this brings to my small company.

For over 20 years, we’ve offered a flat-rate membership at a lower cost than many competitors. However, as client engagement has increased, rather than just applying a blanket increase, we’ve introduced a value-based pricing structure to ensure we are falling in line with the market share.
For small businesses, the membership provides a recognised way to showcase health and safety compliance to our client network. As this network has grown and evolved, maintaining up-to-date details has become increasingly important in order to avoid disruptions to site access, invoice release and ensuring your visibility remains for future opportunities.
We do, however, recognise that the value members experience can vary depending on their sector, location, and individual business needs.
Alongside these changes, we are continuing to expand our member benefits and have now introduced training courses for contractors. If you would like to find out more, please let me know and I would be happy to assist you with getting set up.
