I needed to get my U.S. tax situation back in order and used TFX to help me through the process. I was genuinely very impressed with the service, the organization, and how clearly everything was explained along the way. The whole process was much smoother than I expected.

I definitely recommend TFX to anyone living outside the U.S. who needs help with U.S. taxes and other filing obligations.

I would like to share my experience working with Taxes for Expats (TFX) as an independent PPC contractor and Head of Plexus, a digital marketing agency. To be clear, this review concerns my experience as a service provider, not as a customer of TFX's tax preparation services.

Our PPC management work was performed under an agreed hourly billing arrangement. The hourly rate had been communicated in writing and was previously used for payments, including the full payment for March 2026.

However, payments for PPC services performed in April, May, and June 2026 remain outstanding. The total unpaid amount is $5,332.60.

Detailed monthly time reports were provided. The work was performed, and the company continued to receive and use the results. We did not receive any complaints about the quality of our work or requests to correct deficiencies during the relevant period.

From the beginning of the payment dispute, I communicated directly with TFX CEO Huntly Mayo-Malasky. After I first raised the overdue payments, he proposed retroactively reducing the previously agreed hourly rate by more than 25%. I disagreed with this change because the work had already been performed under the established billing arrangement. The dispute concerned the hourly compensation rate, rather than any specific allegation of poor-quality work.

Despite the increasing outstanding balance, PPC work and support continued to be requested. I eventually decided to suspend further work until the payment dispute was resolved and informed the CEO directly of that decision.

Throughout our subsequent correspondence, I provided additional details about the work performed, including specific activities and supporting records. I also proposed several compromises, including discounted and adjusted payment amounts, in an effort to reach an amicable resolution.

On August 4, 2026, At the CEO's request, I later provided a consolidated summary of the original and adjusted monthly amounts, along with the total payment requested. Unfortunately, the correspondence then stopped without an agreed resolution or payment.

On September 21, 2026, I sent a formal demand for payment, requesting settlement of the outstanding balance by September 25. As of October 27, more than a month later, I have received no response to that demand and no payment for the outstanding PPC services.

Given the continued lack of response, I am considering pursuing recovery through New York Small Claims Court.

My purpose in sharing this review is to describe my own experience of working with TFX and the difficulties encountered in resolving this payment dispute. I remain open to a reasonable negotiated settlement and would prefer to resolve the matter without litigation.

I have retained the relevant documentation, including the contractor agreement, correspondence concerning the agreed compensation terms and subsequent payment dispute, monthly time reports, payment records, detailed explanations of the work performed, and the formal demand letter. I am willing to provide relevant supporting evidence to Trustpilot through its appropriate verification procedures, to the extent permitted by my confidentiality and privacy obligations.

I will update this review when the matter is resolved, so that readers can see the outcome as well as the original experience.

Having recently moved overseas, I'd been sweating the tax implications. Then I learned about FBAR reporting, something I was blissfully unaware of until recently. I've always done my own taxes using various tax preparation programs. This year, it was just too complicated for my tastes.

After reading many favorable reviews for Taxes For Expats (TFE), I reached out to them and also a local company. TFE was extremely responsive, whereas the local company didn't reply for over 2 weeks.

TFE's website was easy to use, and our accountant was extremely responsive, which avoided having to file another extension. She was also able to handle our FBARs. We will definitely use TFE again.

Overall, the tax preparation process and instructions are very clear. My CPA, Arpit, and the TFX team were extremely responsive to all of my questions and provided great clarity whenever needed. Overall, fantastic service!

I had a very disappointing experience with Taxes for Expats (TFX).

Taxes for Expats advertised a service to review a previous year's tax return. I purchased that service and spoke with a representative who instructed me to complete an extensive questionnaire. I spent several hours gathering information and completing the questionnaire, after which I was assigned a CPA.

After all the time and effort I had invested, I was informed that the service I purchased was not appropriate for my needs and that I would have to sign up for a different service. To make matters worse, they had no appointments available for that service.

Throughout this process, communication was extremely poor. My telephone calls went unanswered, emails rarely received responses, and the only occasional communication came through WhatsApp. For a company providing professional tax services, I found this unacceptable.

Since Taxes for Expats could not provide the service I had purchased, I requested a refund. They agreed to issue one. However, despite their written assurance, the refund was never processed.

Eventually, I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company simply to recover money that Taxes for Expats had already agreed to return.

I subsequently offered to withdraw the credit card dispute if they would issue the refund as originally promised. Instead, they informed me that they would not issue a refund because they had decided to accept the credit card dispute.

While I understand that accepting a chargeback is one way to resolve the transaction, it completely misses the larger issue: I should never have had to initiate a credit card dispute to obtain a refund that the company had already agreed to provide.

What troubles me most is the combination of a service advertised and sold but ultimately not provided, hours of wasted time, consistently poor communication, and a failure to honor a straightforward refund commitment.

I cannot comment on the quality of their actual tax preparation work because I never received the professional service I purchased. However, based on my experience with their customer service, communication, and handling of refunds, I would not recommend Taxes for Expats.

Prospective customers should be aware of my experience before committing their money and time.
