We joined the au pair program in good faith and were very surprised by how our case was handled. The au pair stayed in our home for only five nights, and without any prior notice, clear explanation of alleged concerns, or meaningful attempt at mediation, the agency abruptly arranged transportation for the au pair to leave.
What was most troubling was not the outcome itself, but the complete lack of transparency and communication. We were never clearly informed what we were alleged to have done wrong, despite our sincere efforts to welcome the au pair and support his adjustment to life in the U.S. We were also not given any real opportunity to respond to concerns or address issues before irreversible decisions were made.
Although a partial refund was issued, we still incurred a loss of over $2,000 after only a few days of participation, despite having acted cooperatively and making multiple attempts to communicate with different staff members.
For an organization that presents itself as a responsible program sponsor, this process felt one-sided, procedural, and dismissive of host families, particularly those participating for the first time.
I strongly encourage prospective host families to carefully review the termination and dispute procedures, and to understand how limited the recourse may be if issues arise early in the program.

we found a great au pair, matched, and had a wonderful year with her. when I informed the agency I was about to have a baby, they did everything in their power to extract the au pair from our home, against both our and the au pair's wishes. their reason was that our au pair was NOT 'INFANT QUALIFIED'. even though we hired a second au pair from another agency to care for the baby so our current au pair would only have to watch the toddler kids, it was not enough. they sent us a new au pair saying she's infant qualified. the new au pair is struggling and admitted to us in writing that she never worked with kids below 4 years old. InterExchange Au Pair USA is an agency built on fraud and lies, from the VP level down. The VP has been completely unresponsive which is amusing for a 'VP' to hide and not communicate.

It is amazing because they are so good at explaining everything of how works the program and to be involved in all the things that you have to know.

My partner (South African Citizen) joined Au Pair USA in year 2025 and was placed in the Boston, MA area (October 2025) under the supervision of the local childcare coordinator (LCC). Unfortunately, within a short period of time, several challenges arose involving the local coordination process and the handling of her placement, which ultimately led to her removal from the program on 24 December 2025.

The primary concern was the manner in which her participation was terminated. She received an email informing her that she was being dismissed from the agency, and she was instructed to arrange and fund her own return travel home.

Based on our understanding of the program’s contractual terms, this approach appeared inconsistent with the obligations outlined by the agency, particularly regarding support and repatriation procedures.

I would like to clarify that this review is not intended to place blame on the host family. Host parents operate independently and are not direct employees of InterExchange/Au Pair USA, and therefore their individual actions should be viewed separately from the agency itself. I would further like to recommend to the agency to review their host families, especially those with frequent change of Au Pairs.

That said, I was disappointed by what appeared to be a lack of impartiality in how the situation was handled. From our perspective, there was insufficient effort to mediate the issue fairly, and the process felt unfavorable toward an international participant rather than balanced and supportive.

If permitted, I would be willing to provide supporting documentation, including email correspondence, which demonstrates the agency’s decision to terminate her participation and the limited attempts made to resolve the situation prior to that outcome.

Overall, while the program has a strong reputation, our experience raised concerns about communication, fairness, and adherence to contractual responsibilities when challenges arise.

Almost everything was great but the response once you are with the family from my LCC is hard to get it.

About the training in new York is supposed to be but you changed to online academy. The others companies did the training in new york

Amazing experience

You guys only care about the family but not how your Aupair feels or needs. you must remember we're the few people tay PAY to work, that's not the way it should be. I wasn't even able to get to know my family since I only could work one they and they told me I wasn't good enough, they didn't let me even try and there's a chance I'll return home way faster than I expected.

Communication to review and eventually match with an au pair went well, but the logistics and communication post match has not been as good and not what I expected. The amount of work and ambiguity that has fallen on the host family's lap upon the au pair's arrival to the US has not been clear and has required a lot of unexpected work. The agency needs to be more clear and transparent about some of the requirements (and some of the host family expectations) when the au pair arrives in country, and also the financial implications of the host family taking on these responsibilities. I'd also recommend better communication post match between the host family, au pair and coordinator to ensure a more positive arrival experience.

It has been a great experience with the agency from start to finish. They were responsive to our questions. the au pair selection process was smooth. Their database was fairly easy to use.

What was supposed to be a supportive and cultural childcare program turned into months of stress and disappointment. After investing our time, money, and hopes, we were met with poor communication, lack of empathy, and unprofessional handling of issues. When our placement fell apart, instead of helping us through the situation, they abruptly canceled everything, leaving our family scrambling — right after welcoming a new baby. The process felt cold and dismissive, and the partial refund we received didn’t reflect the hardship we endured. This experience has taken an emotional toll on our family, and I truly hope others don’t go through the same.
