This is a horrible company! Evil!

This is a horrible company. They treat their customers disgracefully. I have had far better experiences buying discount products and this is supposed to be a luxury car company. I have now had so many serious difficulties dealing with the people who work in all departments. The amount of employees who lie and avoid all accountability is staggering! Avoid this company at all costs! Must be run by psychopaths!

Disappointed in BMW’s Handling of Known Defect

I own a 2012 BMW 650i, which recently experienced failure of the auxiliary water pump and fuel pump—issues that are the subject of multiple NHTSA recalls and an ongoing class action lawsuit (Beauge v. BMW, Case No. 5:25-cv-00051) involving fire hazards and stalling risk.

Despite my vehicle exhibiting the same dangerous symptoms described in the recall notices and class action filings, BMW has refused to provide any assistance or coverage, citing that my VIN is excluded. This appears to be a strategic move to limit liability rather than address a known systemic problem affecting over 700,000 vehicles.

I escalated the issue through their Customer Relationship Center and spoke with a representative named Jasmine. The response was dismissive and unsatisfactory. I was told that because my car is “too old,” they would not take any responsibility—even though NHTSA safety recall law covers up to 15 years from the vehicle’s manufacturing date for safety-related defects.

I have filed a formal complaint with the Colorado Attorney General’s Office and NHTSA, and I’m monitoring the lawsuit to determine whether additional VINs may be included in any future settlement.

What’s even more concerning is that public Google reviews for local dealerships citing similar issues seem to have disappeared or been hidden—further reinforcing concerns about reputation management over transparency.

As a long-time admirer of the BMW brand, I’m deeply disappointed in how this matter has been handled. I expected more integrity and accountability from a premium manufacturer.

Extremely Disappointed with BMW Reliability and Customer Service

We own a BMW X7 that is still under warranty with less than 25,000 miles on it. During a recent road trip from Washington to Kalispell, Montana, the coolant pump suddenly failed and started leaking. This was not only inconvenient but also incredibly disappointing for a so-called "luxury" vehicle that hasn't even reached 25K miles.

We were fortunate enough to find a local mechanic in this remote town who had the time and expertise to help us. He diagnosed the issue quickly, ordered the parts overnight, and had the car repaired within two days—all while we were stranded away from home. Frankly, his professionalism and urgency far exceeded anything we've ever experienced at a BMW dealership.

The most outrageous part? BMW service centers and BMW USA both flat-out refused to reimburse the cost, even though this is clearly a premature failure of a critical engine component that should have been fully covered under warranty. Their lack of accountability and unwillingness to stand behind their product is appalling.

For a vehicle of this price and reputation, this experience has been a complete letdown. We expected quality, reliability, and world-class support. Instead, we got expensive repairs, poor customer service, and zero responsibility from BMW. We will be rethinking any future purchases from this brand.

First and Last BMW Experience – Shockingly Poor Service on a $90K Car

purchased a 2025 BMW M3 Competition from Beverly Hills BMW on 04/16/2025, expecting premium quality and elite customer service. What I got was a complete nightmare from Day 1.

First, the vehicle was delivered dirty, with swirl marks in the paint, a stain on the windshield, and poorly done detailing. Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But once I reached 700 miles, my brakes began screeching, grinding, and squeaking after extended driving—an obvious defect, especially on a brand-new performance vehicle.

When I called for service, I was told I couldn’t be seen until break-in service was due, and the earliest available appointment with a loaner was three to four weeks out. I waited, showed up on 05/29, and was ignored for over 10 minutes by staff. I had to chase someone down just to get checked in. My advisor, Paul, was completely dismissive—cutting me off, telling me brake noise is “normal,” and suggesting I take it up with BMW directly. He admitted BMW has bought back M cars for this same issue, yet insisted nothing would be done.

Their inspection was a joke. I received a generic video of a tech visually looking at my brakes without removing the wheels or even road testing the car, even after I insisted on a proper diagnostic. When I complained, I was told I’d be charged $100/day if I didn’t return the loaner—so I had no choice but to pick up the vehicle without a solution.

I then went to BMW of Monrovia on 06/02/2025, where I was treated more respectfully. My advisor, Ken, had the shop foreman test drive the car with me. He confirmed the brake noise—but again said it was “normal.” I requested they fully inspect the brakes, but was once again told there was “no issue.” Ken submitted a warranty claim for the windshield stain—but BMW denied it, calling it “outside influence” and pushed responsibility back to the original dealership.

Out of options, I called BMW Customer Relations. The rep dismissed me, saying they can’t control dealer behavior. Only after pressing hard did I receive a callback from Sean, who was polite and promised to investigate. That was five days ago—I’ve heard nothing since. My car is still at the dealership, no loaner, and I’m paying out of pocket for transportation while BMW avoids responsibility.

This was supposed to be a dream car. Instead, it’s turned into a stressful, expensive, and infuriating ordeal. I no longer trust BMW as a brand. For a $90K+ performance car, the build quality, service standards, and customer support have been appalling. Do yourself a favor—buy from a brand that actually stands behind its vehicles and its customers.

I'm currently shopping for a car and found it impossible to search on this website for two weeks now. I've used Edmunds site as my primary resource, but wanted to stay with BMW because I owned that brand early on. Wish someone from their IT would get the site working properly, otherwise, they're gonna lose a lot of customers.

Want to be clear that in the past…

Want to be clear that in the past Sewell BMW was great service provider. However our last visit for service left me bewildered and in disbelief. In short the front grill shutter system failed Our X7 is extraordinary low miles but is out of warranty. This issue has been wide spread on multiple models and BMW in their typical fashion extended the warranty on the component to 10 years and 100k miles, but not on the X7, so I asks for good will support. Sewell would not even try and quoted me approximately $1700 to repair it, so I called BMW customer support directly and received great feedback and response in that they agreed it was something they could support but needed to confer with Sewell for confirmation of the failure. To my surprise BMW came back to me today telling me that they could not support with good will because Sewell stated “the failure was not a failed component but was caused by something foreign causing the shutters to jam and not operate. I expressed my disappointment to BMW pointing out, that if that was the case why did Sewell want to charge me $1700 to replace a failed component. The gentleman actually agreed but said he could not help unless the dealers diagnoses indicated the component failed. Needless to say we won’t be using Sewell any longer based on there seems to be a genuine ethics issue. We love the BMW product but will also reconsider that also. If they don’t better monitor the ethical behavior of their distribution network….how do you receive good service. Feeling a little stuck as we have 3 BMW’s!!

Update:

Today, I had a constructive conversation with Garrett from Sewell, and I want to share the outcome. Garrett approached our discussion with the utmost respect, humility, and genuine concern, which allowed us to gain a much clearer understanding of the situation.

It turns out that the information I received from BMW USA and shared earlier in this post was inaccurate and misleading. Contrary to what I was initially told, Sewell did not act unethically or mislead me in any way. The explanation provided by BMW for the lack of support—citing an external cause for the shutters jamming—was, unfortunately, false. I’m relieved to know that Sewell acted with integrity throughout this process.

However, I am disappointed that the manufacturer chose to deflect responsibility and place blame on the dealer’s service department instead of being transparent about the issue. As it turns out, some of the information BMW shared with Sewell was only partially accurate.

After our conversation, Garrett, now having the full picture, requested another opportunity to seek support from BMW, though I neither requested nor expect further assistance. Regardless of the outcome—whether support is granted or not—I now feel restored confidence and trust in Sewell BMW.

Thank you, Garrett, for your professionalism and dedication!

BMW X5 - Bad Front End Design

My 2021 BMW X5 M Comp has a front-end issue that BMW has no solution for. There are many other models that have the same issue. The issue is the performance tire that is recommended for the car will make loud popping noises in cooler weather when the wheel is turned to a medium or hard angle at low speeds. It is very loud inside the car and can be heard outside as well. It is quite disturbing and embarrassing if your friends or colleagues happen to be in the car with you or close when you drive away. They say you need all season tires to eliminate the issue, but in the case of my car, there isn't a full set of all season tires made that will fit the car. So, if you were to do this, you would have to have mismatched tires. I am amazed that BMW has designed a car that will do this and won't come up with a solution for the owners that have already purchased it. My word to anyone thinking about buying a BMW performance vehicle, think about something else. When the company won't stand behind their high-end product and design a solution for a design flaw, then that is a company you don't want to do business with. I wish it were not true as I have had 4 BMW's, but this will be my last one.

I own a BMW X3 and connected my iPhone to the MyBMW app and the app just stopped working all of a sudden. I contacted BMW Assist and they directed me to a local dealership. I made an appointment with a local dealership and they could not help me and directed me back to BMW Assist. I called BMW Assist once again and they asked me to submit an email which I did and now three days later, no response or solution. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE after paying soooo much money for a vehicle!

2025 BMW X7 Drive40i

I purchased a 2025 BMW X7 Drive40i from this dealership on Aug 2024. I have only had the SUV a couple months when the Check Engine light came on this past Sunday Nov 17. Took it the dealership yesterday and a BMW Technician provided this report and video. A rodent chewed 2 wires that were surrounded by a plastic engine casing... Really. No evidence of any animal fur.
Explain how did the rodent get through the undercarriage? Why did this rodent choose this vehicle outside of the other 2 vehicles that were
under the carport. I will never buy another vehicle from this dealership. This is a poor representation of the BMW name. Plus they told me I needed to submit a claim with my insurance company for the repair.

Unhappy with BWW

Unhappy with BWW

I am normally happy with BMW service in the Durham NC location. I left the Raleigh location because I was unhappy with the customer service. I have a 2014 BMW 528I and my coolant light came on again for the second time in 3 years. So, I'm out of warranty. The first time my coolant expansion tank was leaking and in November 2024 my coolant light was coming on but the technician couldn't find anything wrong other than some erroneous errors. So now I have to pay again to replace the coolant expansion tank. It makes me wonder if I should purchase a BMW on my next purchase. I spoke to two managers and called the BMW office. I will say Josh was pleasant and helpful. I called the BMW 1800 number three times. The first time I was pushed to recall, the second time the lady disconnected the line after she heard my name, and the last lady was nice and said there was nothing she could do or anyone cause of the age of my vehicle and miles. I take care of my car. My upcoming services required are rear brakes and tires are basic services and I have to change the engine mounts for the first time. I will rethink what services I let BMW do.

Why not to buy a BMW

BMWs are high performance. They are very technologically advanced, and can be complicated to understand and operate. The popular online Bimmerpost, a discussion site for BMW lovers, has hundreds of owners who post queries for other BMW lovers in hopes they will help them with their issues. BMW and its dealers brag about "Geniuses" -- unique among manufacturers -- who should be able to help, but they are not well trained. I received inept BMW Genius emails, and the local dealer Genius was a youngster obviously inept, just promoted from being a receptionist. Keep in mind: the more complicated the vehicle, the more staff training is required to improve customer satisfaction. Car auto reviewers universally give BMW praise with nary a complaint, an obvious warning buying into the slogan "ultimate driving machine." BMWs are not for ordinary drivers. You have to love a BMW to buy it, and spend time and money to understand and baby it.

Incompetent BMW Genius

New Mexico's Sandia BMW didn't know if a major feature was offered, so emailed BMW Genius who said it was available. Shared the reply with Sandia BMW. Ordered an $80,000 SUV. On delivery and purchase, Sandia BMW tried to find why feature didn't work ("Had to do more research."). Emailed BMW Genius again, another replied feature wasn't even available, so first Genius was incompetent. With only 80 miles driven and in less than two weeks, Sandia BMW offered to buy it back --- at a $24,000 loss. Complained to BMW and the owner of the dealership, Group 1 Automotive. Both walked away from any ethical responsibility. BMW, Sandia BMW, and its owner are not reputable. The Better Business Bureau rates BMW USA an “F” for not responding to nearly 100 recent complaints.

Stolen car off BMW property

On July 7th, I took my car to BMW located at 555 West 57th Street in New York for a recall. After a week, I had not received any updates about my car. I needed my car back because I had a family reunion to attend. On July 12th, 2024, I called the service department to request picking up my car and was willing to bring it back when the parts were available. They agreed to this arrangement. However, 10 minutes later, I received a call from BMW stating they couldn't locate my car and asked if I could check the locator. After checking, it turned out that my car was located on Orchard Street, not at BMW. I contacted the police and dealt with the necessary paperwork such as filing a report and checking security camera footage. Two weeks went by without any information on my car and the next steps. In the third week, I received an email with two proposals. They offered to provide me with a newer car (either 2025 or 2024) but I would have to undergo a credit check, make a down payment, and commit to a 3-year contract. This was incredibly frustrating considering that my car was initially left with BMW. Adding to the stress, I received a call from the DA's office informing me that BMW had requested them to contact me to testify regarding the case of my stolen car. I found this unacceptable and refused. I am planning to post complaints on various platforms as this situation is outrageous. As of today, July 31st, I still haven't heard back from BMW regarding my car and the stolen items inside it. I will be contacting my lawyers with the next step to sue!!

Dishonest/Deceptive business practices. They found a way to scam extra interest out of me.

Wow! Do NOT use BMW Financial Services! LOAN SHARKS! They will screw you over! During COVID, they convinced me to "take advantage" of their "program" to defer 2 payments until the end of my loan. I didn't really need to do it, but they made it sound like it would not cost me anything extra. They DIDN'T TELL ME that EXTRA INTEREST would accrue every day on those 2 deferred payments. I'm just finding out now, 4 years later, that I owe hundreds of dollars in extra interest on their SCAM deferment "program!" I even called them and spoke with a supervisor, and they refused to make the situation right. Good job taking advantage of people's financial troubles during COVID, BMW. Very DECEPTIVE and DISHONEST business practices. What a SCAM!

BMW Sucks - 7Years old car value is $0. Don't Buy BMWnt and my…

I am a senior year student and my parents let me use the 2017 BMW i3 car for my school. It's an electric and gas engine car and it worked perfectly for me. I love the car and am planning to take it to college. All of a sudden the car is not working at my school.

My dad dropped into the BMW Wesley chapel service center. Initially they quoted $225 for diagnosis and they said $750 for diagnosis battery because the vehicle is not responding and they weren't able to find the exact root cause. This morning they called and quoted $15k for electric motor replacement. The car's worth is 12k but the estimate to fix it is 15k. Because they are not able to diagnose the issue and they suggest replacing the electric motor. We thought the high end cars would give more life but were totally disappointed and BMW failed in 6years. If the company is not able to produce the long lasting engine or motor they should not release these types of cars. They have to recall all BMW i3.

BMW broke my dreams and I will not suggest BMW for anyone in my lifetime.
BMW is just a status symbol not worth the money.
So don't buy BMW electric cars and lose your money.
