Grand Hotel average, Nile cruise fab but gruelling itinery
Information was sparce- didn't know until the night before that we needed to be up at 3am to transfer to our Nile cruise. Not advised in advance that the itinerary involved 4/5am starts. Rep on site not interested once we told him we didn't wish to book additional excursions.
We stayed at the Grand Hotel which is very dated and in need of refurbishment. Pool areas were clean, but sunbeds uncomfortable. You get bothered all day by people touting for business. Food was plentiful but bland. Overall this was more like a 3* Hotel.
The majority of guests are not English.
The Nile cruise ticked all the boxes. We were on the Jaz princess which is one of the largest ships. Hubby and I experienced diarrhoea from day 2 on the ship and were told the tummy bug would have been contracted at the hotel! We were still unwell 10 days later as were 20 other guests in our party.
There is no lift on the ship and the side of the bath is high with entrance and exit restricted by a glass partition. There is no slip mat and no handles to assist. Overall getting in and out for a shower was unsafe.
Staff were attentive although the cabin boys were only attentive when tipped. The cabins were however clean and the bed comfortable. When docked there would be another ship alongside, so no view except into someone else's cabin.
Food was varied and plentiful. Drinks were extra other than tea/coffee with breakfast and a small bottle of water daily. Pay by card at the end of the cruise ( no way to check billing as couldn't read slips they gave you).
Guide was knowledgeable but time at temples never long enough to fully explore.
Booked with Red Sea holidays online…
Booked with Red Sea holidays online about 10 days before our departure. Documents emailed immediately. Our flight was with TUI so I had to ring them to book seats. TUI said I couldn’t so I emailed Red Sea Holidays (as it was Sunday) and the next day they gave me a different phone number for the correct department. TUI were lovely but something was wrong on their system and they asked me to call again in a few days. After the 3rd time of doing this, l phoned Red Sea holidays. They phoned TUI and an hour later I had no problem booking seats. A Red Sea rep met us at the airport and accompanied us on our private transfer. A rep met us at the hotel the next day and every day, the rep came to the hotel. As the hotel was owned by Red Sea, they let us keep our rooms for free until half an hour before we were due to leave. A rep then accompanied us to the airport. I cannot fault the service we had from Red Sea Holidays.
I have just booked with Red Sea…
I have just booked with Red Sea holidays they couldn’t have been more helpful. Gave me lots of advice as a solo traveller and didn’t push me to book, told me to think about it and to ring with any questions.
I was really happy with the way I was dealt with. Deborah Van Allen
Fraudulent company
Fraudulent company, false advertise at it’s maximum. When you complain the hotel management agrees that the website has false advertisement and the facilities that are advertised are non-existent, they claim Egypt is all the same and although hotels are advertised as 4-5* to expect 1* which is actually not true if you book elsewhere Egypt is lovely and does have some amazing hotels just this company wants you to believe 1* service and facilities is the standard as that is all they provide.
Do not book a Red Sea holiday or hotel, you can find cheaper holidays with actual 4-5* hotels which are true to their description.
When complaining about a holiday to…Egypt
When complaining about a holiday to Egypt, whitewashed over everything, would not use this operator again.
Terrible organisation
Terrible organisation. My holiday to Egypt ended up costing £2,000 just for myself, and Red Sea Holidays took no responsibility for numerous problems. They basically blamed me for using the old dilapidated hotel they put me in and for the hotel's terrible scamming staff. I'll never use RSH again, and will suggest other people avoid them.
I visited the Grand Makadi several…
I visited the Grand Makadi several years ago now. This year we're off to the Makadi Spa and can honestly say the whole booking process has been nothing but excellent. Can't wait to be in the sun now!
PRICES! 😨
Can't believe the prices! Much more than other travel companies for same hotel, airport etc! How do they get away with this??
one star is still too high for this…
one star is still too high for this company. Booked in June, paid holiday ready to travel in Feb. They after i paid, changed dates by a week. I work in the NHS and had to beg to get this change. My daughter took ill and needs an operation which will be in Jan, this is stressful enough, Dr confirmed we will be unable to travel. I assumed I might be able to amend the trip to later, but I am not allowed to change this booking and so will loose all my money, unless insurance pay. If they hadn't changed it I could have gone. Rubbish customer service, just want your money. Avoid at all cost.
Poor Travel Co pany
Very poor service the hotel is rated 5* but more like a 3* we complained about our room and were given a 'upgrade' each time we went to reception about something no one listened and we were dismissed so when we got home and complained again we were told we hadn't been to reception, fobbed off with a different cruise boat day before going and was told it was an upgrade it was awful this is 2nd time going with Red Sea, will never use them again and certainly don't recommend to anyone.
Beware a good deal.
Oct 2021, booked to go to Egypt. Made monthly payments, final payment was due 10/06/2022. Received an email mail from Red Sea 18/05/2022 telling me that they cancelled my holiday after reviewing there schedule. They offered me a full refund or 10% off another holiday. Rang them the following day, surprise, surprise the holiday was still available, same flights but even with the discount it was £3,000+ more expensive.
Profiteering comes to mine, I certainly will not be using them again.
Utterly brilliant!!!
1st time using Redsea, 1st in Egypt. We had the best time.
The hotel/Nile cruise. The boat wasn’t the boat we expected as it was out of action. However the replacement boat although less opulent was excellent. I cannot praise the staff enough. They made us feel like royalty. Nothing was too much trouble. From the cleaners to the chiefs, waiters, bar staff each and everyone a star! The food was amazing catering for numerous nations and excelling.
The hotel beautiful clean lovely staff, food. The pools were a little cold but it was early season.
The Redsea representatives were knowledgeable, friendly and there to help.
We will return to Redsea again.
Worst company we have ever travelled…
Worst company we have ever travelled with.
First time and definitely the last what a terrible company. We were miss sold this holiday the Nile cruise boat wasn’t even in service. We booked a five star Cruise with lots of facilities and were told when we arrived at Luxor that the boat had been changed and that grand rose hadn’t sailed for 2 years by 2 of their reps. Yet when we complained we were told they only found out a few days before we travelled. Funny how they had told someone on the boat a month earlier then isn’t it For about 4 to 6 weeks after we returned Red Sea were still actively selling the same cruise and stay on the grand rose that wasn’t even available We reported it to Abta which was a waste of time they just said if we wanted to take it further to pay to go to arbitration so there is no protection for being miss sold a holiday The boat we travelled on had hardly any facilities the local alcohol gin vodka etc drinks in bar were disgusting unless you drank bottled beer It was nothing like the boat we booked. The Makadi Spa hotel only had one bar open and restaurants not open every night so were limited as to where you could eat. We would not recommend booking with Red Sea if you want to enjoy your holiday and get what you paid for
I would have left no stars if it was possible
Shambolic company
Do not use this company, they are shambolic scammers. Booked the Grand Rose cruise put on a 1 star boat as the Grand Rose has been out of action for 2 years. When complained they insist that the boat we went on was same "official" rating. They are mis selling holidays but seem to get away with it. ABTA waste of time and will cost £108 to go to arbitration to attempt to get any sort of refund. Shameful shambolic company who are taking peoples hard earned savings and not supplying the goods. BEWARNED STEER CLEAR
DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY
DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY
We booked a holiday for 13 a mixture of adult & children. We booked for July 2020, unfortunately due to covid like everybody else we were unable to go, but we kept our deposits down with them in the agreement that we would rebook the holiday once covid restrictions had ended.
So this year we paid in full and should have had a long awaited family holiday that we were all very much looking forward too in July 2022…. Red Sea holidays have now informed us that
1 - the flights have changed
2 - that are party cannot travel together; we will be split between 2 different airports & times
3 that they want 3000 more.
We booked through Hays travel & the communications from Red Sea hotels has been shocking, no body gets back to you with any answers and when you do Red Sea hotels take no responsibility…… happy to take your money though.
We have now had to involve ABTA with them to try and get answers and our money back.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We are now at present left with no holiday & no money back or alternative offered.
Red Seas Excursions were 2nd to Nonr
We bought one of their holidays through coop so I don't have any experience with their booking / UK customer service.
Their resort in Egypt was very good quality though and the staff were always friendly.
What really made our experience unforgettable were the excursions that we organised through them. The variety and prices for those were competitive, they were well organised, you always felt safe, and the guides were extremely knowledgeable. I recommend them especially for this.
Would never travel through Red Sea…
Would never travel through Red Sea Holidays again....... Severe lack of any correspondence (didn't tell us when travel details changed so we ended up flying back to Manchester not Bham without being told). So instead of getting to BHX at 9pm we got home at 1.30am (after a miserable coach journey from Manchester airport to Birmingham International).
No apology, no contact once home.
After complained to them, took 1 MTH for them to reply (when I chased them I received a curt response saying ABTA states they have 28 days to respond & they were sorry I thought this was too long).
On 28th day received email saying they only knew last minute that flight was going to Manchester. I don't believe this to be true as other people flying home said they had been made aware a few days in advance.
Other people I know seem to have had much better experiences through other tour operators during the last 13 mths whilst covid has been around. Red Sea Holidays seem to do the very minimum so they are within code rather than giving a good customer experience.
I certainly would never use them again, there are much better options available
Makadi Palace Hotel and Nile Cruise
Makadi Palace Hotel, Hurghada.
This is a walled resort hotel and the area inside is outstanding! It is on a very large plot and the main pool is lagoon-like and goes right round the whole site. It also has its own beach which is nice. There are lovely bridges and many places to sit or use the loungers provided. Sounds idyllic? Externally it is. However the inside is a different story. This hotel is older than it looks and the inside is very tired and in need of a major upgrade! In our room on the top floor, which was an excellent size with a lovely balcony, one of the wardrobe doors was hanging off and there was no plug for the bath! The sink plug did not work either and the vanity mirror was broken! All the furniture was old and past it! The TV was a very old one with a tube (remember those?)of about 24”! This had over 40 channels but only one was in English and that was French news!!! Really unacceptable today. On the plus side the bed was big and comfortable!
In general, the internet is dreadful. It can only be accessed in the reception area but this is still very poor indeed. Meals are adequate but nothing special. It tends to be very similar with little variation.
Entertainment in the evening was poor with very little on offer! All inclusive drinks were pretty much a joke and thank God my wife and I drink little! Wine glasses at dinner were sherry glass size! Drinks elsewhere were very weak literally! Several times I could not taste any alcohol in the cocktail! The waiter got so sick of me complaining that he used to bring the alcoholic content to me separately! Much better! We discovered that specialty coffees were not included but were to pay for. Ridiculous! My wife lives on lattes!
Overall this is potentially a fine resort hotel that is badly in need of an upgrade. Three stars would be more than generous! It is one of 5 on the same site. Makadi Spa resort hotel next door is much more modern but not as beautiful outside!
Transfers were appalling! Red Sea were not there when we arrived at Hurghada and the transfer to Luxor for the cruise was dire. It was in a dreadful coach that should have been condemned years ago! Loo stops were horrendous and the coach toilet was so bad that it was out of order!!! The journey lasted 7 hours although the return journey in a car took 3.5 hours with 2 proper stops in excellent service stations.
The Nile cruise was lovely but please be aware that it travels a very short distance between Luxor and Aswan and you only cruise for 2 days! The actual sites though, were magnificent and our guide, Osama, wonderful! He is an asset to the company and his knowledge superb!
Booked original in 2020 and changed 3…
Booked original in 2020 and changed 3 times because of covid, so asked for a refund July 2021 still waiting, email or phone same answer"we are having issues from our suppliers" But you are ABTA protected,Would never use or recommend this company again.
Red Sea notified us that our flights…
Red Sea notified us that our flights have been cancelled by TUI, firstly they tried to move us to flying into Hurghada for a Sharm holiday, when I phoned to cancel was first told I couldn't when I pointed out we had already been offered this option the lady finally agreed to cancel and refund, however she then told me it would be weeks or possibility months for a refund as they won't do anything before Christmas and then "it won't be quick"
