The system works well
The system works well. At first, I found it unclear that lessons were paid for prior.
I couldn't find info on it. An email to support was responded to quickly, which was great.
The 'by webcam' listed as the default way of interacting with students is confusing, as it does not clearly state that tutors and students can use any delivery method they want, like Teams etc.

Our platform is structured by putting people in touch with their ideal tutor; reaching out to different tutors and offering a safe and secure space to book and carry out lessons.
When a student books a lesson with a tutor via our platform they pre-pay for the lesson. We then transfer that payment over to the tutor 24 hours after the lesson takes place.
As our platform is an open marketplace, students and tutors can conduct lessons as they see fit. We do offer a secure online lesson function to carry out e-lessons however should the tutor or student prefer another platform to deliver the lesson then are free to do so.

Found an amazing tutor, for the price I could afford. I had one or two small issues with the class, but I cannot be sure it wasn't my computer.

A nice and easy site…
I’m impressed with the amount of people that have contacted me about tutoring in Auckland. It is an easy way to communicate with new clients, and payment as well. I think Superprof is a great website actually, I didn’t hold out much hope, but actually it’s great. When one student feels like they don’t need any more tutoring, another student needing help comes along.

Be careful signing up
Be careful signing up - the platform pushes 'free trial lessons' but will whack you with a $49 'Student Pass' subscription fee as soon as a tutor responds (even if the lesson itself is free). I received absolutely no comms that my account had been charged. I would've been none the wiser that I was now in for a monthly deduction had I not seen the charge on my bank statement.
Customer services were unhelpful and completely unwilling to issue a refund. I won't be using their services again. Just be aware that as soon as any tutor accepts any request for any lesson type, they will consider their services to have been 'made use of', thus justifying the application of their ongoing subscription charge.

I'm sorry to hear that it wasn't clear to you how our subscription works and I would like to take this opportunity to highlight that the service we provide is putting students in touch with tutors and that is why in order for a student to contact a tutor they first have to subscribe to a Student Pass.
The Student Pass has lots of great benefits such as allowing you to safely communicate with your tutors and securely pay for lessons via the platform. Please remember that even after you unsubscribe from the Student Pass you can continue using these great features with the tutors that you've already connected with.
Additionally, included with the monthly subscription you can contact and exchange with all teachers on the platform and usually take the first lesson for free to help you find the right person.
It looks like you were not offered a refund of the Student Pass because you were able to successfully connect to at least one tutor and you successfully had a lesson with them.

I have been using this portal for around 2 years and have found it to be a great tool to share your skills and talents for teaching others, or learning from someone else. They have good systems in place, which, once you understand how it all comes together, are straight forward to use.

I m happy with there quick service response. I was able to find a good tutor for my daughter with superprof help. It is very convenient to have every subjects teacher at one place. U have the option to choose which is really good.

There are so many websites out there, it's hard to know which ones you can trust. Superprof is safe, easy to use, and very practical. All the information you need is easily accessible, and communication between tutors and students is simple with the built-in messaging system. I managed to land my first client who…
I managed to land my first client who immediately scheduled two sessions per week. He didn't understand paying through the Superprof system and wanted to pay directly into my account. I had just 24 hours to make sure it's legit and wrote an after hours email with all my questions. When I woke up this morning a clear answer was in my inbox and I could proceed with the client! Superprof is a really efficient way to both find a tutor of be a tutor. As a tutor myself, my only suggestion is that there is a third button alongside ‘Accept’ and ‘Decline’ when someone makes an initial enquiry, which would give the opportunity for me to ask for further details before deciding to accept or decline. At present, I have to Accept, but they often have not given me slough information.

Few glitches but great
It would be 5- but my tutor wasn’t getting notifications on my messages leading up to our lesson so I was unsure if it was taking place. Luckily I found her phone number on her profile so we could connect and confirm the lesson.
Otherwise everything else has been fantastic

I felt as if I was going to die of old age before I ever got a student
It took sooooooooooooo long for anything to happen initially. I felt as if I was going to die of old age before I ever got a student (at the same time I was registered with four other similar websites and had no problems with getting students - this was not my first rodeo) even after I had done all I could. This initial lack of any action was immensley frustrating.
After a break for Xmas/New Year I now find I have ascended to the rank of " Super Tutor" and have immediately picked up a new client - so let's hope for a much better run this year.
P.S.
I cannot remember the exact date I signed up so the "Date of experience" is an educated guess.

Congratulations on getting your first student on Superporf!
As Superprof is an open marketplace for students and tutors to connect and organise lessons the frequency and volume of lesson requests will depend on the number of students who are looking for a tutor in one of the subjects you offer and also the location in which you are based.
With that said, it's worth noting our platform is still fairly young in New Zealand however we are already steadily increasing and we have a large number of members who are signing up every day.
It's also worth remembering that you can increase your chances of gaining new students by having a stand out profile photo, up to date reviews and recommendations as well as ensuring that you have a really targeted ad.

Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Tutor accepted lessons but wanted to make contact via messenger. We were charged but tutor then ghosted us and we never had any lessons but still managed to pay $60 for nothing. Terrible customer service to help resolve situation. Shall never use again as they blatantly didn't want to fix the situation.

I'm sorry to learn that a tutor accepted your lesson request only to refuse a lesson later down the line. Naturally, this is not how the platform is supposed to work.
To be fair, having checked our records I can see that you did engage with our customer support team and having learnt about the situation we offered you a refund of the Student Pass to put the situation right.
Though I'm sad to hear about the one negative experience that you had on our site, I'm happy to see that you have previously connected with different tutors and had successful lessons with them.

Subscribing to the Student Pass allows you to create a targeted search through our database to find the perfect tutor for your learning needs.
The Student Pass also has lots of great benefits such as allowing you to safely communicate with your tutors and securely pay for lessons via the online platform.
It's also worth remembering that even after you unsubscribe from the Student Pass you can continue using all these great features with the tutors that you've already connected with for as long as you would like.
It's a shame to hear that you did not like your experience using the website, however, I am happy to see that you were able to successfully connect with a tutor and carry out the first free lesson with them, which is included in the cost of the monthly subscription.
