I am very grateful for this opportunity through The Intern Group. Since I had previously spent time in Hong Kong during an exchange semester and really loved my time there, I was so excited to have the chance to return for an internship!

The Intern Group was very helpful throughout the process, supporting with practical matters such as the visa, accommodation, and internship placement.
I am also so happy for all the great people I have met through TIG, which became a big part of the experience for me.

Overall, I am very happy with my experience and so grateful to have had the opportunity to come back to my favorite city, without all the support from TIG it would not have been possible, and I am very thankful for that.

The overall experience was very good. They found a suitable company, and helped present me as professional.

The company was also very helpful and accepting to me and very willing to help me learn. This made for a pleasant and upbeat workplace relationship.

The excursions were an awesome thing as they allowed for bonding between interns and gave opportunities to become friends and find people to do things with in a foreign country. (Mine was in Tokyo)

The accommodation was a bit lacking though, the room was much smaller than many other interns I talked to and also had no common room to hang out or talk to the other 3 interns in my house. Would say it would’ve been nice to at least have somewhere to eat and talk to friends.

Highly recommended the internship program. I learned a lot from the company I worked for and make lot of friends around the world.

I really had a great time! My accomodation was really good, Chayin and Harrison, they are very helpful whenever needed and always organize excellent events.

MY internship in Hong Kong was truly the highlight of my gap year. The process with the Intern Group felt seamless, with the team securing both a visa and housing for me. I can't recommend the program more.

In my experience, the placements The Intern Group sends people to can be much smaller than the marketing suggests. They publish a minimum of three staff per host organisation, but the placements I encountered tended in practice to be a single founder, sometimes a single founder plus interns.
For a young person moving abroad alone, that is not a small detail. It is the difference between a workplace and a one-room operation where the only adult in the room is also the person who controls whether the placement (and therefore the visa) continues. There may be no peers, no in-person backup, and no functioning supervisor in the way the paperwork describes.
If you are considering the program, ask before paying: who exactly will I be in the office with on a typical day, and is the host's headcount independently verifiable against the published three-staff requirement?

I have just completed my 6 week internship in Melbourne and I must say it was a 10/10 unforgettable experience.

From gaining professional experience, the excursions and meetups included in country, to the incredible lifelong friendships I have made, it has truly been a top-notch experience.

I initially signed up for this program in 2022, but due to personal circumstances, could not proceed. I am so grateful and fortunate that I was able to re-apply and complete the program this year.

From the admissions interview, work placement, accommodation + VISA assistance, to the experience coordinators in country, it was a full hands on deck operation. There are a lot of people involved and working extremely hard to coordinate an intern’s arrival and work experience, and for that I am impressed and thankful. The Intern Group answered all of my many questions and were extremely understanding and flexible with me when I had a family emergency back in January.

I also had opportunities on my own to tour some of the beautiful country that is Australia, which was a huge plus.

A special shout out to Chayin and Harrison, our experience coordinators, who really made every event and meet-up an exceptional experience. They made every intern feel welcome and special and were sure to make everyone’s experience unique and memorable.

The 6 weeks flew by and I am going to miss being in Australia, and I am ultimately thankful for The Intern Group allowing me this opportunity.

My internship experience in Tokyo with The Intern Group was one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic and professional journey.

As an international student, I wanted an opportunity that would allow me to gain practical work experience while immersing myself in a new culture, and this program exceeded my expectations. The Intern Group provided excellent support throughout the process, from pre-departure guidance to ongoing assistance during the internship. The team was responsive, welcoming, and genuinely invested in ensuring participants had a positive experience.

Living in Tokyo was an incredible opportunity. The city offers a unique blend of modern innovation and rich cultural traditions, and I enjoyed exploring different neighborhoods, local attractions, and cultural events. The Intern Group's social and cultural activities also helped me connect with fellow interns from around the world, creating friendships and memories that I will always value.

My internship allowed me to develop professional skills, gain confidence in an international working environment, and better understand how professionals collaborate across cultures. The experience challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, adapt to new situations, and grow both personally and professionally.

November 2025, I decided to take the biggest leap of my life and give myself less than two months to move to the city where my soul truly feels at home: Madrid. I wanted to grow both personally and professionally, immerse myself in a new culture, and challenge myself in ways I never had before and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.

The three months I spent there felt like an absolute dream come true. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, supported, and inspired. The Intern Group truly sets you up for success by providing guidance, professional development, cultural immersion, and a strong support system that allows you to thrive both inside and outside of the workplace. Lalita and Corinne were absolutely amazing in helping build a home away from home. They set up the best group activities where I made the most amazing friends whom im still in touch with and already planning a reunion trip with 🫶🏼

Beyond gaining valuable international work experience, I built confidence, independence, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. Living and working in Madrid gave me a completely new perspective on life, business, and myself. It pushed me outside of my comfort zone in the best possible way and strengthened my passion for international business, hospitality, and global connections.

This experience was far more than just an internship — it was a period of growth, self-discovery, and transformation that I will carry with me forever. I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity and would encourage anyone considering taking a leap abroad to do it without hesitation.

Cici was awesome and helped me navigate Hong Kong.

This internship provided exposure to a professional corporate environment within a large, well-established, English-speaking multinational firm, offering real insight into how teams operate and communicate. From the beginning, the process of signing up and securing your placement is very smooth and well organised. I did not go with my original placement, as I wanted more of a Japanese-focused firm, and although they usually recommend accepting what you are assigned based on your existing skills, it is better to trust your instincts if something does not feel right, as this decision worked out extremely well for me.

The workload leaned more toward observation and light involvement, so it is not strong for building technical or hard skills, but it significantly improves confidence, independence, and understanding of workplace expectations. It is best suited for ages 18 to 25, as most interns are younger, and older participants should expect to operate more independently and may not form the close social circles often advertised.

If you value a clean and quiet living space, the provided accommodation may not suit you, and I chose a serviced apartment at roughly two to three times the cost of the program for better comfort, privacy, and proximity to work. Some interns had to travel almost two hours to work each day, which is normal in Tokyo, so keep that in mind if you choose their accommodation.

Outside of work, Tokyo offers a huge amount to experience, so bringing sufficient spending money is important. There are many easy day trips such as Nikko, Hakone, and Kamakura, and taking the Shinkansen is part of the experience. Exploring solo, speaking with locals, and stepping outside your comfort zone is one of the best ways to learn about yourself. Google Maps is extremely accurate and will get you anywhere you need to go, especially when using trains, which are efficient and reliable. Most places close around 8pm, so if you want to maximise time after work, rideshare options like Uber can help but are expensive.

Using AI tools to plan your days and solve problems on your own is highly valuable, as plans will constantly change depending on time, budget, and energy. Do not limit yourself to major tourist hotspots, and instead explore based on your own interests. Some winter days will be rainy and overcast, so it is worth planning indoor activities for those days and saving outdoor exploring for clearer weather.

Tax-free shopping typically starts after spending around 5,500 yen, for example at Don Quijote. It is better to arrive with minimal items, as you can buy high-quality clothing locally, especially from Uniqlo. Carry an external charger at all times, as your phone is essential for navigation. As a foreigner, you are required to carry your passport, so keep it secure. A good travel backpack is useful for daily exploring, and be prepared to walk extensively as Tokyo is one of the best cities for walking.

Time management is critical. Plan your free time and weekends in advance or you will miss out. Avoid relying entirely on others’ plans and explore based on your own interests. If you have an iPhone, you can add a Suica card directly to Apple Wallet and tap your phone for transport without opening any apps. The program also provides a physical card if preferred.

Avoid doing this internship in summer, as it is extremely hot and uncomfortable. Winter was ideal, and autumn would also be a strong option. Overall, while it may not fully match promotional expectations seen on social media, it remains very worthwhile for personal and professional growth. Those on a strict budget may find the constant opportunities to spend challenging.

Overall 8/10 experience, highly recommend!

I really enjoyed my experience. However, if I could go back I would probably choose to find my own accommodation. I also think for someone being in the program for longer than 1 month, you should be given more than 4 free excursions. But over all I had a great time, met lovely people, really enjoyed my internship, and had an amazing experience coordinator!

The internship I completed in Tokyo was fantastic! Thanks to the Intern Group and all their support and provisions, I was able to undertake an engaging and fulfilling internship within one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the world. The Intern Group were extremely skilled at analysing my resume, as based on my strengths, they suitably paired me with the NGO Seibo Japan, where I was able to grow and develop my skills and interests in marketing and fundraising. I would highly recommend taking part in an Internship with The Intern Group, and I can't wait until I return to Japan!

My experience with The Intern Group was genuinely life changing. Being able to live and work for two months in the middle of a bustling, lively city (Dublin in my case) was a genuine dream come true. I had a great experience in Japan, meeting lots of new friends which will help me network in the future.
