Serious Concerns About Billing and Medical Record Accuracy

People read these like stories, so give them just a bit more:

I’ve been a member of One Medical for some time, and the difference in quality over the past year is hard to ignore.

What prompted this review was a billing issue that should have been straightforward. I was charged for injections that were never administered. I flagged it, expecting a simple correction. Instead, I was told their records are correct and that I’m responsible for the charges.

That response is what’s most concerning. If a provider can’t reconcile what actually happened during a visit with what’s documented, that’s not just frustrating, it raises real concerns about the reliability of their medical records.

This used to feel like a modern, patient-first experience. Now it feels operationally inconsistent and difficult to trust.

I’d encourage anyone considering joining to look closely at recent reviews and weigh whether this is the level of care and accuracy you’re comfortable with.

I just used the for a refill

I just used the for a refill. The doctor was late and only saw me for 5 minutes or less and I just got a 600 dollar bill! Insane for a refill visit! I’m appealing having to pay that whole bill. Won’t used them again!

I should've stuck with my gut and stayed away!

I was excited to join One Medical although I was a bit weary because it's by Amazon, and this is one time I should've trusted my gut, but I went forward with establishing care with them because I was able to go in person at first. The first visit went ok but I noticed as someone who suffers from chronic medical conditions that despite them advertising they also see people with chronic conditions, the nurse practitioner who saw me wasn't comfortable with nearly anything regarding my care, which is understandable since I thought I was going to see a doctor like most normal places which left me feeling mislead, so I was very disappointed at the same time, but she was really nice so I tried to give the visit the benefit of doubt. My next appointment was scheduled as a telephone visit although I preferred in person, but ok. I was then billed for what my insurance didn't pay although I wasn't supposed to be, and on top of that they billed my insurance just short of $500 for a video visit 15 minutes or less just for basically nothing. Back to the money they say I now owe, they didn't have my other insurance on file so one of the people on the phone told me to take a picture of my insurance information and email it to them, which I did. They never uploaded my information and the new person I spoke to didn't know what I was talking about. With so much fraud going on, I am very concerned where my information went. I am deciding not to return and have found a new primary care that's an actual doctor. I will also press the issue further about where my personal information went and if I have too, ill be filing a complaint.

So if you're looking for an actual primary care doctor, you will not see a doctor. The place is literally an urgent care basically ran by NP. Also don't go here if you have chronic conditions. Think you can call your healthcare provider in case of an emergency? you have to pay just to send a message if you don't upgrade. There's literally no way to really contact them which is alarming.

Amazon bills you 2x a regular local visit

I have kaiser but wanted to see what this was all about. I continued to see $49 for virtual visit. I did a trial period booked an appointment. I had a short 10 min video call, 48 hrs later I was billed 472.50. The provider that helped me was not really helpful and worked at san francisco general hospital which also had low reviews.

The primary care providers near Union Station are toxic. They ordered numerous tests that I did not authorize, made up symtoms that I don't have, and are badgering me into more tests and unnecessary surgery that my insurance won't cover.

I wish I could give zero stars.
I was totally scammed by one medical.
I did not receive an appointment I showed up to the doctors office, they turned me away for care and referred me to somewhere else and still charged me almost $400 for the appointment. This is absolute scam and a horrible way to operate a business - I would not recommend them.
Go anywhere else possible do not go here and do not sign up for the membership. It is not worth it. They are sleazy.

$772 for a 15 min appointment

One Medical has gone completely downhill since Amazon bought them. It's VERY difficult to see an actual MD. NPs, PAs and other medical staff are easy to get a hold of but an actual doctor?...good luck!

I was charged $772 for a 15 minute appointment with an MD. In reality, the discussion was less than 10 minutes. That means, 1 MD working 40 hours/week for 50 weeks is bringing in over $6M in revenue to Amazon. $6M?!?! It's absolutely wild and unacceptable. DO NOT USE ONE MEDICAL!

My experience did not match the advertised pricing.

A visit advertised as $49 resulted in a $624 charge for a short video appointment (around 10 minutes) for prescription renewal.

I had indicated that I did not want to use insurance. The visit was later billed at a higher complexity level than I expected for a telehealth visit.

I requested a review, but the billing was not adjusted.

Patients may want to clarify total costs and coding practices before scheduling.

$525 for No Care is a Scam

If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. I signed up for One Medical because I deal with some ongoing issues that aren’t major but occasionally require a prescription. For the first time, I made a virtual appointment and spoke with a PA for less than 30 minutes. For whatever reason, there was no testing, no diagnosis, and absolutely nothing was resolved. I also wasn’t told how much it would cost upfront. A week later, I received a bill for $745, which was later adjusted to $525.11. I was shocked, so I called thinking it was a billing mistake. If you’re a broke student, don’t have insurance, or don’t have money to throw away, please stay away. That’s the best advice I can give. Even urgent care visits that include testing are usually under $300. If you don’t have insurance, don’t sign up.If you’re a student, don’t sign up.If you’re looking for care that actually helps you, please don’t sign up.

There's a reason their score is 1.3 on…

There's a reason their score is 1.3 on Trust Pilot across so many reviews: they are not asking for customer feedback and therefore don't know where they're falling. There is so much potential for this kind of service if they could just figure out how to execute on it. When I switched from my single practitioner, I was excited about the availability of medical staff when I needed it and was looking forward to a more modern online experience. It's been nothing but problems since I joined them. After I met with one provider in person and explained all my current medications, he still managed to prescribe the wrong medicine and/or dosage for three of them. Lucky I caught it, but this can be life threatening at worst. Their online service is also very bad. One reason that it's not getting any better is that for the six months I've been a member, I have not once received a survey about how my experience was with a consultation, a prescription refill or any other interaction. This company is owned by Amazon which is obsessed with focusing on the customer and is asking about feedback all the time so they can improve. Why they are not doing the same with One Medical is beyond me. If they did this for one month, they would very quickly identify the top five things they could do to improve customer satisfaction. The bar is set really low here.

constant problems since One Medical took over

There are constant problems since One Medical took over. When you call its a call center who are not qualified and don't understand what your talking about. The office is run terribly. The last two prescriptions were sent to Pharmacy incorrectly and he Pharmacist called me & said to call dr. haha you can't call. I waited forever on hold to talk to someone with no knowledge then transferred to a PA who kept telling me maybe he needs to see you. I have a appt every 3 months. And now the doctors are only allowed 30minutes with you which is not enough by any means. I am also waiting impatiently about results on tests that has to with cancer. Nobody called me so I wait nervous and the PA said you can talk to him at your next appt. Well IF I have breast cancer I don't want to wait. I like my doctor but really cannot deal with the incompetence of the rest of staff and managers. I would not recommend this to anyone. When it was IORA it was great.

They were great many years ago but no longer.
I also had post meno bleeding and was told the absurd scenario that I had toilet paper deep inside, well it wasn't it was a 9mm thick endometrium that required a biopsy for abnormal bleeding.
I had breast cancer young but that didn't raise concern and I had to get a second opinion to be send to a gynecologist. Unprofessional !

terrible service by Kelly Thelin

I met with a physicians assistant Kelly Thelin for 10 minutes online - my goal was to order blood test for cholesterol and she ordered the general blood test with no cholesterol. They charged me $266 and when I explained to them that they did not do what I asked they sent my bill to a collections firm! I would not pay $266 for a 10 min online mtg w/a PA and I certainly won't pay for incorrect labs. I won't pay the collections firm either, medical bills cannot be put on credit reports.

Billing rates went up per visit in my…

Billing rates went up per visit in my location (New York) from around $300 per visit to over $700 per visit with no notice to patients. This is for primary care and to put it in context even specialists I see outside of OneMedical are only charging $400 per visit. OneMedical takes the position it does not have to give notice of their rising charges per visit even though they only tell you after the fact by telling you that your uncovered amount just doubled as well. I would think that they have some obligation to disclose their billing rates ahead of time but after 5 emails back and forth they take no responsibility. Also, ever since Amazon bought OneMedical the care has gone downhill. Visits are shorter and it takes longer to get in with a provider.

Women's Health

I had a follow-up appointment at One Medical regarding perimenopause care after previously seeing Dr. Shin Jung Yoon. My appointment was scheduled for 1:00pm; I arrived at 1:01 and was brought back at 1:07.

During the visit, I clearly explained the two main reasons I was there and where I hoped to focus. However, much of the appointment was spent revisiting prior lab work, which I was told was not valid due to timing and fasting issues.

When asked about the prescribed medication, I shared that it was causing cramping and not providing the intended benefit. Despite this, the recommendation was to continue the same course of treatment with minor adjustments. I expressed that I did not agree and was hoping to discuss alternative options.

At approximately 1:32, I was told my appointment time was over and that I could discontinue the medication if I chose, review materials later, and return for another visit. When I shared that I did not feel the visit had been helpful, I was told that I was being “mean,” which I found inappropriate and unprofessional.

I left the appointment feeling dismissed, unsupported, and discouraged. Patients seeking care—especially for complex and often frustrating conditions like perimenopause—deserve to feel heard, respected, and partnered with in their treatment decisions.

Using One Medical has been a nightmare

Using One Medical has been a nightmare. The most recent absurdity is they have now reduced the access you get within the app if you are not paying the extra monthly Premium fee. It was explicitly stated that you cannot compose new messages to medical care providers in the app without paying extra, but you can respond to messages sent to you. The past week I have been trying to get a price quote for an online visit with a provider, and in the midst of this conversation, I was stripped of the ability even to respond to messages. I email to one medical that this is happening, and 8 days later I get a random message saying that with Limited access (i.e. not paying an extra monthly fee) I now cannot even respond to messages. Just obviously and unmistakably shady business practices.

It's also worth quickly noting that the medical care that I received from dr. christina council through one medical was atrocious, her referrals were literally unusable, and my attempts to get actual useable referrals were responded to by the folks at one medical with what amounted to "too bad so sad."

One Medical is a nightmare. Do not use it for anything, ever.

Not for people with Chronic Conditions

If you have chronic conditions and looking for a real primary care doctor, look elsewhere. I have chronic medical conditions and needed a doctor in the new state I am in, so I checked out One Medical. I knew the first visit that it wasn't going to work out. You don't even see an actual doctor, and the person I picked wasn't even comfortable filling the most common medicines, I was so confused. Needless to say, I am in need of some help and can't message any healthcare provider unless I pay an upgrade fee. I decided to move on to a real primary care doctor. No offense to the person I saw, she was very lovely. The office staff was nice in person, but this is for people just looking for a quick check-up and a minor prescription.

They will only prescribe a specific few medications decided by the concern you chose when beginning your visit. During my visit for eczema I was told that I needed to start a separate visit (and thus pay again) for acne- I do not have acne- in order to get a prescription I have been on for years renewed. Each time you message your provider it is a different person with no continuity. They only address part of your message and it takes hours to receive each reply.
