I made a claim after my dog was in a lot of pain and showing signs that he may have broken his leg. Rather than make him wait and suffer for a further 12 hours until the local vet reopened, I took him to an emergency vet. The total bill came to £432.47, which included £35 charged by the vet for completing the insurance claim form.
After submitting my claim, I eventually received a letter confirming that it had been approved. However, after deducting the £90 excess and a further 15% contribution due to my dog's age, I received just £25.35 back.
I was shocked to discover that the insurer apparently did not consider a dog in severe pain with a suspected broken leg to be an emergency and would only cover the cost of a basic veterinary visit. It's concerning that a company could expect a pet owner to leave their dog suffering for 12 hours rather than seek emergency treatment.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company. Pet owners should carefully read the policy terms before purchasing cover and consider whether the level of protection offered meets their expectations. I feel badly let down by the claims process and the outcome of my claim.
