Bait and switch and overcharged credit card
I purchased a Canon T7i with an 18-135mm lens ($769.00; reg. $899.00), BG-C15 Battery Grip ($79.99; reg. $149.99), and Lexie 128 GB SDXC Memory Card ($69.99) from Willoughby’s on line.
I called to confirm the order and I was told the camera I ordered was a non-domestic model (800D). I was told the Domestic version does not come in a package with the 18-135mm lens. Changes were made to purchase the T7i Domestic version camera, 50mm f/1.8 lens, battery and UV filter while removing the memory card.
I later saw the price of the UV filter was approximately $140.00 and I called back and advised the salesman I needed the UV filter for 50mm lens not the zoom lens and I did not want to pay $140.00 for a filter when a new 50mm lens was $150.00. I also complained about the price of the camera and battery. I was told, “That’s the price of the domestic model, they don’t make an after market batter and that’s the only filter available.”
I was able to contact customer service and have the UV filter removed from the ticket.
I looked at my credit card and saw I am being billed $1310.92 when the on-line receipt shows a total of $1178.97 which overprices the camera by $100.00 and none of the items were at the sale price.
I contacted Canon and they explained a new T8i sells for $850.00 and the T8i is is the domestic version of the 800D.
I never got the sale prices as they were advertised, overpaid for the camera then they overcharged my credit card.
I lost $333.93 in the “deal.”
Very pleased with my purchase.
I was looking for a better a DSLR for awhile but didn't want to spend several hundred dollars. When I saw the Canon EOS Rebel T6 on this website I liked the price and the features and took a chance. I am very pleased with my choice. Build quality is more than expected, I haven’t put it down since I got it. The lenses are amazing, I’ve had the lenses on manual focus and I absolutely love it!!!! I’m still getting to know the camera but all I can say is the shots I’ve gotten so far have far exceeded what I expected. I highly recommend Willoughby's camera for all your tech needs
I would give a zero if I could
I would give a zero if I could. This is a bait and switch, selling the European gray market camera (no US warranty) instead of the US version. With the threat of a 20% restocking fee they then try to switch the order for a much higher price US version that they don't list on their website and I'm not sure they can even supply. They agreed to price match which I authorized, but they charged a higher amount. If you accept the package, you are stuck if something is wrong, so be sure to check their policy with regard to ensuring the package is not damaged and camera operable before accepting. You have the option with UPS to decline the package, but beware they send it without a signature required. I had the same experience as many others. Jimmy yelled at me and made threats. All calls go back to Jimmy, so don't expect to speak with a supervisor because he said he is a supervisor. I will make sure to check a company's reviews on several sites from now on.
Bait and Switch. Sells Gray Market Goods.Willoughby's website is misleading
Willoughby's website is misleading. They tried a bait and switch with me. I ordered a Canon PowerShot SX70 HS Digital Camera from them because their price was well below all others. On the website, it was the same as offered by Canon.
Within hours I received a message to call "Jason," a telephone seller for Willoughby's. He told me that I had bought a Canon sold for international markets. If I wanted the American market Canon, I would have to pay well over a hundred dollars more. I cancelled the order.
They sell gray market goods advertised as American market at a very low price. Then, the switch. It's fraudulent.

Fujifilm X-T3 W/16-80mm Lens, Filter and Flash 📸
I'm a beginner with no photography and video background. In my opinion, this is a great camera-very fun to use and great colors. Buy it if you're eager to learn the technical side of photography. Design is superb for learning aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. It's also highly bespoke as one advances in photography and videography. First time photo enthusiast and pleasantly surprised. Very versatile camera and lens combo. Buy it and you won't regret it!!
Deceptive advertising and atrocious customer service!
One of those New York camera stores that call a customer after an order is placed to try to convince you buying a more expensive "version." You bought a model with international warranty, he said even though it is the only one available in their online store. Search for "Canon r6" at whillougbys.com. You will get only 1 result. Yet, somehow, they have a more expensive "US model" as well, which they try selling you after the fact.
Another representative, when told to ship the so-called "international model," made up a new story, claiming the "international model" comes with an additional customs duty. "Oh, no," he said. It will be more expensive with a duty than buying a US model. You should go with a "US model." They make up stories on the go, and if you still want to go with the original option, they just cancel the order (because they don't have the products at the prices advertised on their web-site)
Primitive old tactic and deceptive practices.
Outrageous customer service. Try calling them at the number provided on their web-site. 49 times out of 50, you will not reach any agent regardless of the option you choose. It took me days to finally get in touch with a representative.
NOT recommended! You will waste your time and get nothing in the end.
BAIT and SWITCH SCAM
As others have said, BAIT AND SWITCH, I ordered a Nikon Lens NIKON 16-80MM AF-S DX NIKKOR F/2.8-4E ED VR LENS, received an email that said there was a problem, was told it had a EU mount, would ship US Mount, told them my camera, was told it was compatible, (it is not) received an out of the box lens, attempted return, was told only if I paid a 247.00 restocking fee payable by check or money order BEFORE I could return the paid for lens. DO YOUR LEGWORK...this has happened to many.....
Absolutely bait and switch
Absolutely bait and switch. No where it said the Fuji xt4 camera and 18-135 lens I ordered was not for U.S market. I get a call from them saying no U.S warranty or English literature available. I canceled the order.
Dont take the bait..
Found "Great Pick" on Google Shopping…
Found "Great Pick" on Google Shopping from this store. Ordered through the store website, and two days later, got a call to "confirm" the order, asking me if I want to change the merchandise to US warranty, which will cost me another $100. Said "no thanks," then another week went by with nothing. Called the store again, and the merchandise is now "oversold," yet the store continues to advertise the merchandise for the same price in Google Shopping. Does this store have any intention of selling the merchandise at the advertised price? Why is Google still showing "Great Pick" on something unavailable?
Bait and Switch
Bait and Switch. I ordered a fujifilm x100v from their website. After paying and confirming my address I get a phone message the next day say they "need some more information" before they can send. They didn't answer at the indicated number and extension. It is clear from other reviews what is coming next: the camera I ordered will "turn out", contrary to their web site, to be a no warranty grey market unit that can't get any software updates in the future. The US version, of course, will be available for a lot more money or I could agree to make due with the foreign version by buying a very expensive extended warranty. Stay away from this scam.
DO NOT BUY FROM WILLOUGHBY'S WEBSITE
DO NOT BUY FROM WILLOUGHBY'S WEBSITE
They do a classic bait and switch. If you buy one that is on sale, they won't ship it to you until you call them, they are going to tell you that what you're buying is an "international model," and that if you want modern amenities, like wifi, and an English menu, you need to pay full price or above full price. THIS WEBSITE IS EITHER A SCAM OR HAS SUCH BAD EMPLOYEES THAT YOU GET SCAMMED
This place was fast on shipping price…
This place was fast on shipping price was on point will by agine I love my sonya7riv
Bait and Switch
Before ordering a camera online I phoned to make sure they had it in stock and was assured they did. I placed my order immediately following the call. The next day I received an email to call and speak with Jimmy about my order. Jimmy told me that I could only purchase the camera as a part of a kit that was double the price of the camera. I told him to cancel the order which he said he would do. We'll see what happens next. Editing this to add that the site is still showing the camera in stock in both colors with and without a lens.
BAIT & SWITCH. SCAMMMSSS. STAY AWAY.
The 4 stars review in this site is incorrect for Willoughby's. Go to Yelp to see more actual reviews. This store is a complete SCAM and a WASTE OF TIME. I placed an order last week. Got an email and told me to call its processing team since it needed more info to process my order. WRONG!!! The guy just wanted to talk on the phone since it's their upsale tactic. Told me that the model I paid for is an international model, which is ok for me. He said a $2000 lens has a plastic mount for international model vs a metal mount for US model. BULLSHIETTTT. It's a $2000 lens not a cheap plastic $50 adapter. Make some sense here dude. When I said I'm ok with the international model, he said the shipping time is 4-6 weeks and went on about ordering from European warehouse and other cheap upsale tactics. I paid extra for expedited shipping, why do I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get my order? He said if I want the order soon, I would have to get the US model which is $300 more than what I paid for and is the same price as other stores are selling. Yeah right, at that same price point, I would just order from other legit and Canon, Nikon, Sony authorized dealers and get full warranty like B&H, Adorama, Kenmore Camera, Beach Camera, etc... That was the first and also the last time that I order from Willoughby's. STAY AWAYYYY and save your time.
What you bought is "European" model - Pay another $300 to get you what is listed on web
Bought a X-T4 Camera as it was advertised and listed on their website, without any coupon. Next day I got a call from them, stating what I have bought was "European" model and asking another $300 to get a "Domestic". I went back to their web site and saw all models on their web shows the same thing that I bought!
I was lucky enough to cancel my order and get my money back. STAY AWAY
Willoughby’s false advertising/scammers
Willoughby’s advertised a specific camera in stock and for sale new ! I ordered and paid for it with a credit card …. 2 days later I get a phone call that told me that the one I ordered was an “European “ model and I would have to pay for shipping from Europe (not true on the website) ? BUT if I pay $400 more they will sell me the display model in the store but it had to be “checked out” and would take 2 weeks to ship !!! I told him no that I would cancel and then amazingly enough , he “talked” his manager into shipping sooner !! I refused and he tried the hard sell that “they are back ordered and hard to get and if I didn’t buy now , it would be gone”… I still refused because something didn’t feel right with me and conversation!! 2 days later , they called back and still had camera !! They also still have the camera that I ordered on their website as “in stock” and available for immediately delivery !!! They are scam artists and I wouldn’t buy anything from them ever !!!
Bait and switch scam!!
I also experienced their bait and switch scam. I placed an order for a Sony FDR-AX700 4K camcorder that showed a price of $1399 on Tuesday. I received a phone call on Wednesday, saying they were ready to ship it, however they needed to know if I wanted the "international version" which would cost 32% more to cover customs fees and taxes. He then offered the "U.S. version" for $1500 plus. I told him to cancel the order as I can get it elsewhere for $1400 and he sarcastically said "good luck with that". I will not make ANY purchase from this business.
Worst experience in 40 years
Worst experience in 40 years. Purchased a lens online , get a call next day from " Jimmy " telling me the lens I purchased is the " European " model , the US model is $ 300.00 more , the online add does NOT mention this ! Classic bait and switch.
I tried to cancel the order but got no response via email or repeated phone calls. I had to file a claim with paypal to receive a refund.
This company should be prosecuted for fraud.
My advice to anyone is buy from reputable camera store.
Unprofessional and poor customer service
Ordered a camera 11/26/2021 called in few days latter on the 30th to check on the status and was told order is being received and will be shipped today, Then got a phone call few minutes latter "item is backed ordered - and out of stock" Meanwhile when we are checking online on their website it still shows "in stock" very unprofessional and poor customer service.
Willoughby's Bait & Switch Scam
"Willoughby's Photo Emporium" runs a bait & switch scam that's really slick. I ordered a Fujifilm XF 35mm F1.4 lens at the advertised price of $519 USD. I received an email that I needed to talk to "Jimmy" to provide information to process my order. When I phoned, Jimmy told me that I ordered the international plastic mount version of the lens. He said the domestic version with the metal mount would be $699 USD. I declined and he came back with, "What if I could give it to you for $599?" I declined again and he asked what he could do to make me happy? I declined once more and he informed me that because I used PayPal, I would be charged a $50 order cancellation fee. At that point I realized I had been expertly scammed... It's worth mentioning that their product listing does not mention an "international" version versus a "domestic" version of the lens. The product description and specification tabs contain no mention of it either... Watch out for Willoughby's!!
